Do you have any unpopular opinions???VOL....2

The story of Jesus is misinterpreted. It's really a cautionary tale about being too nice.

Sports where you are judged (primarily Olympics) by others/non competitors/non athletes are mid to bad tier. Not complete trash but still.

We love watching gymnastics and the athletes go crazy but that one nameless Swedish judge gives a 8.5 rating and throws off her podium chances is pretty bad to me.

Why do Christians pray to Jesus instead of going straight to God
Always wondered this. Especially in light of Matt 6:8, which give an account of Jesus teaching his disciples to pray. He taught them "Our Father, who art in heaven. Hollowed be thy name..." But then again, most christians dont read the Bible, so....

You can thank Paul and the Gospel of John.

Paul was not an apostle. He anointed himself based on his experience on the road to Damascus.

The Gospel of John was a later, Hellenistic gospel, that cemented the changes in the early Church from a movement within Judaism to a primarily gentile/Greco-Roman hero-worship religion about Jesus instead of about his teachings.

You’ll notice much of Christianity bases it’s core concepts on Paul (who abrogates the law entirely) and the Gospel of John (who deviates heavily from the synoptic gospels which were all aimed originally at Jewish audiences).

The Book of James, besides the teachings of Jesus himself and the Book of Acts, is one of the few canonical books which carries the influence of the original movement. The Church/“ecclesia” was originally a Jewish messianic movement. As the 12 abrogated some of the Torah and ignored Jesus teaching to not do so, Paul eventually took the sledgehammer to the connection with Judaism all together. This allowed more Gentiles to feel comfortable joining the movement. They would carry their own grecoroman interpretations of Jewish concepts and the events that happened during his life and alter the understanding of what the movement was entirely.

The deification of Jesus and the establishment of the Priesthood, the teaching you cannot pray directly to God, the saints, mariology, intercession, vicarious atonement, etc. could not happen without Paul’s influence, the demographic changes in the church, and the convenient inclusion of the gospel of John in the canon.

TL;DR - Many Christian denominations pray to Jesus because they don’t teach what Jesus taught, they teach what Paul taught (backed up by a spurious gospel.)
