Ask Meth about what they were doing over there. You'll walk away with a clear perspective on what is what. He knows. Look at him repping a racist, as if that is okay.
Meth would rightfully ban me in a micro second if he thought I committed any fraud. Being an ex-mod/admin from Sole Collector is not a crime. I rest easy knowing I never stole money or any other crime for that matter. I was Turbo Uno over there same as I am here with nothing to hide.
By the way, there’s no way I’d like any type of mod position here as I know it takes all the fun and comfort from being here in the first place. I learned my lesson over there. I’m cool being a regular so Khufu can relax and breathe easy
I can't speak to what may have happened a decade ago on a site I had no involvement with and zero desire to ever visit.
Here's what I do remember:
For those who don't know the origin story for that site: NikeTalk used to operate on an ad free basis, relying on user donations to cover our hosting costs. When that became untenable, the owner of a sneaker resale site offered to host us if we gave them "props." We declined, so they started their own knock-off.
As it no longer exists, I'll just use this for illustration purposes:
The incident I recall that best fits this description involved their web store's consignment program -
not their forum's buy/sell area. Apparently, they'd failed to pay some consignment sellers up to
five months after their items had sold, and it wasn't until one such seller reached out to NikeTalk for assistance that they finally and begrudgingly received recompense.
Although the store's owner at the time reportedly demonstrated no qualms with exploiting volunteer labor to staff his businesses (some of whom may have been underage), I have no reason to believe that anyone on their message board moderation team was involved in that issue. The two sites were, at least ostensibly, separate businesses, if only for liability purposes.
As such, unless you're referring to a different matter with which I am unfamiliar, I would consider it irresponsible to accuse their former moderators of any direct culpability in that matter. To believe that, you'd have to believe that their owner was letting volunteers put their hands in the till - which makes little sense given that they were
unpaid.
It should be noted that both sides of that business were sold off long ago. What was left of the magazine and message board were bought by Complex. A NikeTalk member salvaged the web store, and that's the person we've been working with for our recent merchandise sales, such as the
current offering to benefit Doctors Without Borders and Give Directly. The consignment issue there occurred around 15 years ago.
I will say, as a matter of policy, that if it could be definitively established that someone had committed fraud or some other offense (like posting hate speech on a different platform), we would consider that sufficient grounds to terminate that user's account. It's not a "jurisdictional issue." If someone committed fraud elsewhere, we're not going to sit on our hands and wait for it to happen here before we act in defense of our community members.
To be perfectly candid, I didn't even know Turbo Uno was a moderator on that other site. That, in itself, is no proof of wrongdoing. Bad taste, perhaps, but nothing that would be inherently disqualifying for membership here. You could argue that their volunteers were taken advantage of, too.
Let's be precise and responsible with any allegations. If there is some other issue or evidence involving a current community member that you believe the team should consider, please bring that to my attention and we will of course review it.
