I'm 30 and unless the occasion is called upon for a formal attire, I'm in Jeans and T-shirts everyday. Don't get me wrong, Inception had me wanting to dress "better" but in the end I wouldn't be comfortable. In all honesty, I feel that some of Niidawgs suits are atrocious and feel like RFX can go up a size on some of his clothing but its their bodies and comfort in their clothes.
I don't think is ellitist at all. I've said it before but this thread is more of a stepping stone, a guide on where to start and Nii has done well with his advice on that. After that, you have to develop your own style. Like me, I can't say everyone should follow or wear what I wear, I think I have managed to be consistent with my clothes and somewhat develop my own style. It's not the straight forward traditional , it's not the most fashion forward style either, more of a combination fo both.
But really, having fitted clothes is just the right thing to do. You can always size up or size down depending on your comfort level but the days of XXL Fubu tees and 38 Phat Farm jeans are gone and you really can't be presentable in those. Sure a well qualified person who wears Steve Harvey suits might get hired but it isn't a good look, but really nothing against it. This thread is just to promote or at least open options that others may have over looked.

So if you are fortunate enough to live in a time where the fad is 'tailored clothing' i think you need to take advantage of it, because tailored clothing done right will last you a life time. A well fitted shirt, jeans and shoes, or a well fitted suit has been en vogue since the 50s ... they will be en vogue in 2050.
If you plan to climb the upper echelons of the corporate world or society - you need to invest in items that will last the test of time. I have been where most of you are now and i can guarantee you that the slim lapel, short jacket, poly blend suits will have no place in your wardrobe when you get to 30 or 40 or 50. So why not invest in something you can own 20 years from now and still be relevant? I mean why waste money on a 200 dollar suit or pair of shoes that you will end up giving to Goodwill or trashing 3 years from now because some new fad is in.
I have consistently said it is okay to own a couple pieces of "fad" items in your wardrobe ... because you need to stay with the times ... but the bulk of your wardrobe, especially if you are above 25 years old should be timeless items (well fitting khakis, well fitting blue shirts, well fitting jackets, leather shoes with leather soles etc)
After this i will post some pictures from the 70s and 80s ... each of those people will look stylistically relevant if they dressed and posted in this thread today. Paul Walker's GQ suit will look stupid 20 years from now ... why ... because 20 years ago it looked stupid. It is a fad. If you dress like these men today ... you will always be able to utilize the pieces as long as you live. You dont have to wear a suit everyday ... you can pair the well fitting timeless jacket with a pair of jeans to dress down ... then when you get to the point when you need a suit you can wear the entire suit and still be relevant.
Overall, I think we are somewhat trying to say the same thing. I agree that super short suits and super slim lapels will go out of style. I think it just shows us, two SF folks separated, you from MC and me from SW. I am more tolerant of less traditional items. We both agree on well fitting clothes but in this time and age, I think it is more difficult especially for those with a limited budget. As you may know, clothes plus altering can add up and thrifting and scoping up ebay and fs forums isn't the easiest thing. Nii, to you and I, it may be easier since we are well aware of our measurements, shoulders, chest, arm legnth, etc... To others here, they have no idea and yeah it takes some trials and errors and I htink this thread has encouraged some to give it a shot, and I think even more are more open to bringing clothes to the tailor now but again, it isn't as easy task.
Looking at the materials, the quality, the sizing, these are all very difficult to do online. And that is why most things suggested here are mall brands, easy to access clothes and at times, there really isn't a choice but to go in that route and then move on from there. I think we need to take into account that there are younger crowds here than SF, more specifically MC. Most people here are still growing and changing so it is hard to buy clothes an make it fit now and hope it still fits 10 years from now. I think in MC, it is easier to do that since most are established and have a set in their physique. In here, I don't think it's bad to go a bit modern as chances are, it won't fit some of these guys 10 years from now anyways.
With that said, I think for the young crowd, a nice well made knit is the best clothing for the fall/winter. They tend to stretch a bit so it can accomodate a slith change in size adn a good quality one, when taken care of, can last. Another would be shoes, we already know a good pair when taken care of could last years, maybe even decades and I think most shoe sizes here aren't growing anymore.
