Elite DC is going to be called Palace 5ive

Just got a call from Greg at Elite...in response to the email that I sent him about this issue.

I can't quote him verbatim because it was a lengthy conversation.

He mentioned that the guys in the pic have been hanging out in front of the store since they day they started building up. He stated that he gets along with those dudes and talks with them and jokes with them.

He mentioned that he is apologetic for the offense that has been taken and didn't plan/intend for such a result. He stated that his intent was SOLELY to poke fun at the people who camp out for new releases...nothing else...no other undertones.

We all see it as more...but I'll be open to accepting his apologies after speaking directly to him...

Many times...you don't get a reply back...and definitely not a phone call - I respected that.

I still see it as a mistake...but accept the apology...it seemed genuine.

I can respect that. But, they should probably issue that statement to the people that they sent the email/pic to as well.

This was my point the entire time and I was right. Whether some skaters fall through here and there is irrelevent, Hunter. As no place opens up shop where they can't make any money. There aren't any skateshops in Mitchellville, Largo or Southeast, are there?

^^^I agree...that's something I mentioned in my email too.

That's what's up!!!

Side Comment in Regards to "Do the Right Thing:"

Has anyone ever seen the edited version of the movie? Instead of mutha-shutyomouth, they say micky ficky and that @#%$ is hilarious when Radio goes to get his batteries. LOL

Dudes, I used to skate DC. I know the numbers. Hell I used to be one of the only ones this side of the Southside. When Sean Sheffey was skating MT Calvery parking lot when I was going to Bishop McNamara.

THere are dudes all over the southside now skating, wear etines and all that. I'm not blind nor oblivious to it all.

This is only a mute point. The main point was them making fun of the very people that more than help keep their lights on.

C'mon now O, with all due respect I'd say some of your points are leaving me pretty hungry as well, your skating experiences from "back in the day" (when was it..like 1946?) don't really apply to now do they? And furthermore I don't really understand your end point, are you saying that the skate gear is some sort of "cover"? I'm not seeing why you think you're being the one man Woodward and Bernstein exposing their joke.

very good read from all you.
but im not sure how i feel about the issue. i know some of you could care less about what they have to say, but I think it could somewhat change what and/or how you feel about the issue.

if its a fact that it was staged...then well :smh:

Here's the email transcript...it's short...but you'll see where he requested my contact number...and yes Omar...he called me within about 20 minutes of me replying...

Dan, he didn't say exactly whether is was "staged" or not...but he said the guys are out there all the time...so, who knows.

After letting the day pass, I thought it'd be a good idea to let you know that
people (including myself) have found the usage of that picture of the assumed
homeless guys rather offensive. Homelessness and street life is not a joke.
I'm not sure if you have ever heard of a messageboard site called NikeTalk but
we have discussed it and all feel pretty much the same. We have all been
supporters of Elite in one way or another and would like to support Palace 5 as
well...it's in my City, why not? But I, amongst others, feel that the usage of
that pic was a tad irresponsible. It may be humorous to the youth who don't
understand the true tragedy of homelessness and how it effects the people. On
top of that, the 3 guys were African-American...I take a person offense to that
considering...
I'm not sure if there's something that can be done to right the wrong, but for
the sake of wiping the slate clean..maybe a new pic with a re-send email would
please folks - me especially. I don't thin I could go through the rest of my
day without sending you this email.

The dude had a Bobs Store shirt on. "Staged"? Or taken before they woke up after a long night?

Definately poor taste my good fellows. VERY bad taste. If they admitted to poking fun at their customer base... why not prevent the camp outs altogether by not having them?

That's like Maybelline Face Products having an ad with some young girl crying in front of a mirror, because she hates the way she looks.

Like Viagra having an ad about a man who can't get it up with his girl laughing at him.

Thats like the NAACP having a commercial ridiculing Black women because Some black men date white women... Sorry bad example.

But in all seriousness. Mistake or no mistake...what if that EMAIL ad.. was a Bill Board ad? Would that "sorry" be enough to avoid the backlash they would get from their potential DC Skater Base?

I'll bet good money that the skaters aren't usually the ones lining up for releases so I doubt they'd care one way or the other.
