I've been thinking of doing this for a while now.

In an attempt to get all of the users of the music forum involved in a single thread, I thought of all these "Essential" type compliations that my parents buy for artists like Billy Joel and Elton John. They are basically "Best of" 2 disc albums for the given artist.

We'll keep a thread open for about a week before moving on to the next artist. We'll attempt to reach consensus as to what the top 20 songs by each artist/group. I'm thinking of making the single artist total only 15 songs as opposed to 20 for a group that will typically have solo artist songs included as well.

After the end of each thread, we will start a thread with an archive of each "Essential" tracklisting. That way, we can always refer to that thread should people say, "What are good song by 'Artist X'?" If some people want to contribute an "album cover" that would add some legitimacy to the archive thread.

We'll see how this works. Obviously we'll have to make some adjustments while we go though this and only allow one "Essential" thread in the forum at a time. I will also take suggestions as to what the next artist thread should be.

Also, when making justifications on what should or should not be included, try to word out your justifications as opposed to "Because I like it more." Why do you like it more? What about it makes it better (or worse) than another song?

So without further delay,

Essential Wu-Tang

Let's try to keep it involving the main members of Wu as opposed to satellite groups like Killaarmy (not that anythign they've done would even make the list.) Cappa would be an obvious inclusion (just so I can lobby to get "Winter Warz" on the list

).

So here are some of mine:

C.R.E.A.M.
Triumph
M.E.T.H.O.D. Man (Original)
Winter Warz
Ice Cream
Bring The Pain
Gravel Pit
Shimmy Shimmy Ya

julissa ortiz : nadira hira : roxy jezel : shae norris : valentina vaughn

I get the final say. As much as it's not "fair", someone has to have it. Whomever it is, peole are still going to complain.

But obviously, I"ll just take tallies and what not. That's about as objective as we can get. I'm having a hard time filling out 20 "no doubt" tracks, so I'm sure we'll have a pretty lengthy discussion about this.

I'd add Uzi (Pinky Ring) to this list. Great, catchy beat and everyone comes and spits fire on the track. Great song with everyone from the Wu.

This is a great idea Bas and I'll post some songs when I get home I'm at work. I'm just curious as to how you're going to pick an artist every week. Are they artists that you favor (not saying your choices would be bad lol) I'm saying that I know you're a huge Ras Kass fan and a lot of people would be hard pressed to come up with songs for him. I just want to know how you're going to choose them.
