Filipino Culture Thread

Dad is from Bacolor, Pampanga. The entire town relocated after Mt. Pinatubo erupted. My relatives on that side now live in Bulaon or Angeles City.
Mom is from Olongapo City and my relatives on her side still live in the house she grew up in and they keep asking her for money because all but one of them are lazy bums.

Mom from pampanga and dad from morong Bataan. My lolo on my fathers side fought for WW1 and WW2 for the US. With his courage gave the family full US citizenship. Family owns a couple of beaches in Bataan. My uncle (Fathers brother) is one of the top lawyers in PI; Is a lawyer under high politicians/well known celebrities in the Philippines. Only visited PI 3 times in life. Parents met in Oakland and me and my siblings were born in Vallejo California. The Bay Area.

Born and raised in NJ.

Parents both grew up in Quezon City; mom's side is from Pampanga, my dad's side is from Bicol.

Same here. Born and raised from NJ. My sister was born in the motherland. My pops is from Manila and mom's from Quezon City

I like the jollie bee chicken

Nilaga with bagoong is so good
Ahh, I've never tried that before.

I was traumatized as a kid when I had Nilaga with banana's in it. Threw up all over my lola's dinner table lmao. Never again.

I eat bagoong with fish sinegang....puchero and nilaga. Kare kare sometimes but I like to really taste the peanut butter

Only thing I like with bananas is puchero but those are plantains.

I eat diniguan with regular bananas tho.

Dope, same here.

Mom's from Pasig (I think that's Manila?) and Dad is from Quezon City. I have no idea where some of these areas are on the map. I just know the traffic is bad to get to one place or the other.

Bananas? Interesting. My dad makes nilaga with sweet potatoes and it’s pretty damn good.

had some fried banana at a thai restaurant with my friends for my bday and it tasted good... but all it was turon so they bit off our culture and was not on the same level

If any of you guys are interested in podcasts, check out PHlavor Profiles. It has to do with Filipino food and culture. It has really interesting stuff. Anyone can recommend other Filipino podcasts?

went to Tito Rad's in Queens, NY last night, with my Pops-he ordered this, not a big fan of fish-but it was pretty good...

Moved to LI and the only reason for missing Queens is the filipino restaurants and zig zag wraps 4/$1. Overpriced in the city and not many spots sell them in LI. May have to cop some longaniza for breakfast this weekend. No filipino spots in LI or many ethnic varieties, feel like I'm back in the Philly burbs.

here's a couple spots I ate at in Nassau County..

Guiradelco @ Westbury (9AM for bkfst?)
Manila Hut @ Hempstead

And this spot I want to try, Kabayan Grill @ East Meadow-they're open early for bkfst (7AM)...

Actually, I think someone mentioned some Nassau spots, my old age makes me forget. Miss driving 15 mins and having to decide where to eat filipino food with the fam. Spot near St. Sebastians closed, I think it was Engeline's (sp?) I can drive to the spots on Roosevelt on my commute home but sometimes just want to be out and avoid traffic. Tito Rad's is right off Queens Blvd so thats always an option.

yea, that was me-i just copied and pasted, lol..

man-im always driving to find good spots to eat-its my inner fat boy
