Florida School Shooting, Over 20 Casualties

In my opinion, this is how you attempt to resolve the school shootings:

TAKE THE PRESSURE OFF OF THE CHILDREN.

From the moment a child goes to kindergarten, they are asked what they want to be when they grow up. They are pressured by depressed, over-medicated, and stressed out parents who want a return on their investment for the sacrifices they made working tough jobs, chasing degrees, and chasing the American Dream.

As parents and as a country we have to do some self reflection, and really assess how we parent our children. Children from foreign countries don't have this same pressure. They take "Gap Years" after high school. During that time they can really find out what they want to do and discover who they want to be.

In addition to pressure from their parents, American kids receive pressure from the media and while on social media. They see the glorification of public figures. The pressure to be the best at what they do within their peer group (wear clothes, get accolades, attain wealth) within their peer group results in a big chase... aka the rat race.

The pressure to be all of these things is not freedom. The pressure to win that race is actually mental slavery.

That is why there are so many mental health diagnoses. People become depressed because they cannot keep up to who they admire. That could be a rapper, a doctor, or dad.

As a country, America needs to SLOW DOWN. The pressure of trying to keep up with our peers, trying to maintain broken relationships, and trying to live up to unrealistic expectations is killing us.

Let's enjoy this land, this planet, and this life.

Automation is coming. Let's efficiently consolidate all manual labor jobs into factories that are "robot centers" or places that do most of our manual labor.

Let's knock down all of the remaining buildings, and cultivate the land. More people are working from home, so not as many offices are needed.

Let's build gardens with fruits and vegetables in these spaces. That is what most people want anyway. That would bring health into the inner cities. Instead of factory jobs, those people could work gardening jobs.

That shouldn't be the goal though. The goal should be ownership. We should know down the empty malls, and convert office buildings into vendor markets. That would encourage more entrepreneurship. You wouldn't need as much overhead. Just pay a small fee to the building, and sell your products. That also helps the building owner earn money.

We need to rethink the idea of what the American Dream should be. This one has run its course.

This. Literally EVERY red flag was present.

Expelled from school
History of mental illness
Bragged about killing animals
Obsessed with guns and knives
OWNED a gun
Broken home, parents recently deceased
Threatened classmates with violence

Like....hello????

AND he was on an FBI watch list...they knew of him 5 months ago. What good are those lists?

I'm sure you guys discussed it, but listening to CNN this morning, someone brought up a great point. Think about the IMMEDIATE response to terrorist actions like the shoe bomber etc. It wasn't too long that everyone had to remove their shoes when going through a security check at the airport. We have incident after incident of these mass shootings and nothing. Unless Republicans start actually putting pressure on the NRA, it's going to be the same deal as before.

This is big facts. Especially the everyone forgets part. The debates and conversations last for a week or so and then society goes back to worrying about more important things. Like what Kim Kardashian posted on Instagram.

2018.

And 2040 is not "in 50 years."

22 years from now, you won't be able to buy a gas powered (or, CO2 emitting) vehicle in many developed countries. That is how you curb unwanted behavior through policy.

FTFY

Repped!

You got me on a slipped finger and a 22 year plan to start a gun reform.

I'm out

Sometimes I’m glad my wife and I don’t have kids

We don’t need to worry about them possibly being shot every single ******* day

One less thing to worry about

As cool as this sound, can you please let me know what research or first hand experience you or the person you for this from have with foreign countries and children?

As far as I know, this impose pressure is a globally. No matter where you go, the middle high to high society are just as describe.

If you think bullying and keeping up with the Jones is only in the US, you sadly mistaken. Every where you go around the world, whether is Europe, Africa, Australia, Asia, Latin America etc you'll find the society is divided by upper, middle, lower. You'll see kids pressure to continue their lineage , you'll see racisim , you'll see bullying, you'll see everything you talked about.

Taking the pressure of the kids or whatever that means doesn't change what's happening.

To an extend, putting more pressure, discipline, taking it back to traditions does. I see a lot of home values thrown out the windows. Kids getting participation awards. We are creating weak minded kids that if corrected, go into a deep depression because they can't take criticism .

If you look at countries with strick gun laws, they don't have these kind of problems.

PS Trump always want to make this a Muslims or Latin America issue, but Lord and behold Middle East and Latin America are landfills of American Made weapons. Instead of America creating the border, if I was Mexico, I would be creating that border. You know how many guns cross the borders (south) to supply the cartels?

Those aren't the kids .....

Those other countries you described aren't the United States though. We have a unique set of characteristics that no other country has that is a perfect recipe for what you saw on Wednesday. It's the sum of our parts that make us violent and dangerous. It's not just the pressure or rat race alone. That's just one element @combo gd touched on.

We are talking about taking the pressure of kids. In addition, I'm not sure if you fully understand how other continents countries work.

Again, taking the pressure of kids is just passing the buck.
