FOOD THREAD VOL. GRUB LIFE

Not sure if its worthy of the "hype". i sure as hell wouldn't wait in line for them. Honestly, the thought of a couple white dudes taking a basic japanese convenience store sandwich concept and selling them for $10-14 a pop made me feel a little gross.

The sandwiches themselves were ok, I was looking forward to the egg salad the most and while the flavor was on point, the salt wasn't mixed very well so some bites ended up being too salty. The katsu was about what you would expect, but just way overpriced at $14.
For a minute I thought it might have been from a Japanese store in LA’s Japantown or something similar, then when I saw your yelp link and the video I was surprised and kinda turned off by it. It’s pretty much opened and made by hipster. I’ve had the ones in Japan and unless they use the same ingredients and products from there then there’s no way it could even come close. Even for a simple sandwich like these.

Went to Mimi's Cafe for the first time yesterday for dinner... food was trash. Might give them another try for breakfast one day.

Tried those sandwiches from popeyes yesterday - they're average chicken sandwiches at best.

PROS:
bread- I know theres hella pics floating around on here with the bottom bun looking thinner than a sheet of paper, but they held up surprisingly well against the sauce and hot chicken "patty"

pickles- strong briny flavor that cut like a knife though all that grease and sauce

heft- overall a good sized sandwich for $4 and some change

CONS:
breading- soggy, flimsy, inconsistent at best. Some bites were perfect but between 2 sandwiches I had too many bites where Im getting nothing but breading and bun, and others where Im getting chicken no breading.

"spicy" sauce- a good mild sauce, not spicy but good flavor.

chicken- I don't know what cut or CUTS of chicken went into that sandwich, but not many things worse than going in on a chicken sandwich and biting with the grains of the meat. 2nd sandwich was very "stringy" and a bit dry. Not to mention these chicken "patties" weren't seasoned spicy just deep fried and dressed with a "spicy" mayo compared to the classic with basic mayo.

Overall: 6.25/10 - would not seek again.

No pics, they aren't worthy.

Don't mean to start a firestorm, but on the heels of butter bagel-gate, what happened w/ the black pepper? What was that about?

Yeah I like to revisit arguments like this at a later time because it's much easier to step back and take a look at everything that was said.

Brief synopsis: TomDigninson makes the claim that "too much black pepper is bad for you as a man," people start asking him how he knows that, he gets angry and tells the people questioning him to "do their own research," Kimchi piles on with a source that doesn't address the claim made, proceeds to get angry and double down on the "do your own research if you're so interested" narrative, the argument devolves into Kimchi questioning DC's professional credentials and TomDigninson trying to correct the grammar of the people he's arguing against while he makes grammatical errors himself.

I love NT.
