For a minute I thought it might have been from a Japanese store in LA’s Japantown or something similar, then when I saw your yelp link and the video I was surprised and kinda turned off by it. It’s pretty much opened and made by hipster. I’ve had the ones in Japan and unless they use the same ingredients and products from there then there’s no way it could even come close. Even for a simple sandwich like these. Not sure if its worthy of the "hype". i sure as hell wouldn't wait in line for them. Honestly, the thought of a couple white dudes taking a basic japanese convenience store sandwich concept and selling them for $10-14 a pop made me feel a little gross.
The sandwiches themselves were ok, I was looking forward to the egg salad the most and while the flavor was on point, the salt wasn't mixed very well so some bites ended up being too salty. The katsu was about what you would expect, but just way overpriced at $14.
