FOOD THREAD VOL. GRUB LIFE

I’ve only used tallow for steaks. It worked like anything else. Not sure if it would just make everything taste like beef.
Butcher shop around me have some. I know fancy places use duck fat for French fries.

That duck fat rendered from cooking duck breasts is excellent.
O he’ll ye. I made a duck ragu pasta at the start of the year and the beginning part of the cook involved rendering down some legs and breasts. I kept a jar of duck fat in the fridge from what I got off the cook and made home fries and potato wedges all the live long day with it. Probably got a bit over-zealous considering duck fat is okay to store for like 6 months but I definitely got full use of it.

Champion Pizza from Ditmars Astoria, Queens NY the other night. Ok to good regular but superb truffle mushroom. Creme soda was refreshing as well.

Empanadas from Mama's Empanadas. I got the 🍕 empanada & spinach/cheese. They have like over 50 different ones to choose from. I will definitely be coming back here.

Hit up Qahwah House for coffee. It's a new-ish Yemeni Cafe in Astoria, Queens. We had the pistachio milk cake, bousbosa, green tea & chai. Pretty much all of it was fantastic. Outside seating in the back made for a nice relaxing night.

Pregamed on appetizers with our fave Momo truck in Jackson Heights, Queens. Fantastic steamed beef momo 🤤.

Costco was carrying Cap City Mambo Sauce so I grabbed a bottle. Put it on a thigh. Don’t think I had ever had it on chicken that wasn’t fried before. Still good

I wish my local Costco had Mambo Sauce. One of the things I missed when I was in the DMV.

Pizza hopped today. Newest pizzeria in Queens, NY called Elements in Jackson Heights neighborhood. It's been creating quite the buzz so we tried it out today. The spinach cheese one was so damn good & the Sicilian had great sauce and crunch to it.

From their we went to Andrew Bellucci's in Astoria, Queens. This joint has a rivalry with Bellucci which is less than a mile away. Bellucci opened first and the guy from A. Bellucci left for whatever reason and opened his own pizzeria. Solid solid pizza, the Sicilian was trash from here but the Margherita slice was 👌.

From their we went to Bellucci. I got the potato slice which has potato, scallion & caciocavallo. Which is basically a teardrop shaped cheese & delicious. The regular was ok from here & very similar to A. Bellucci's with the char and thincrust but the potato slice was pretty dope. Only the 2nd pizzeria in NYC that I've seen that do a potato slice, Vaccaros is the other one.

I had dinner at Islands on Labor Day.

I had the Double Stack burger. It's $10 from now until October 6, 2024 if you're a registered member of their rewards program. The deal is valid for members once a day.

It wasn't bad for a typical burger. But the only problem for me was the size. It's a smaller size burger with two patties instead of a standard larger size burger of theirs. Perhaps its size may deter me from having it again before the promotion ends.
