Yea just go hard the week before. In the gym and with the food.
But you CAN be conscious about the portions on the day of. We all are victims of eating things just because they are there and we don't really want then. Waste calories on things you care about.

i can not pass on aunties best dishes I get to try once a year

Stuffing is once a year.
Mashed potatoes probably like 3-5x a year.
Mac n cheese probably like 3-5x a year.
