Man you don't want to know what I THOUGHT I read...........Mumbo sauce is cool, but the chicken is more the special part to me. Some spots a fresh box smells like fresh pastries.
I don't know anything about DC spots.
I haven't spent enough time in DC to really comment on this. Baltimore definitely has a variety of good dining options, but I feel like pretty much all cities do at this point...*Also, off subject, I like the food variety in Baltimore MUCH better than DC. DC is no slouch, but I got no issues driving up to B-More if I got a taste for something.
Hank's oyster bar, rapahannock oyster co. I like founding farmer's oysters too because of the mignonette. Not an oyster spot though so it's pricey.
*for $8 a bottle, you can buy some gentrified mAmbo ( ) sauce at the grocery store.
