From a New Yorker, it's time I tip my hat to the West Coast.

In the last 5 months I've been to:

Vegas 4 times
San Diego 3 times.
LA all the time (sporting events and concerts)
San Francisco twice (50 minute flight)
Snowboarding (1 hr drive)
Mexico to eat and chill at the beach (Ensenada and Rosarito), best lobster for so cheap.

I live in the IE so its a central ground to everywhere.

Cali >

Yup :smokin NYC might be the top city, but I can't leave Cali because there's just so much @#$% you can do while living here. A few hours of driving in any direction, no matter what part of Cali you're in, lets you experience something completely different. Although this includes Central Cali :x :lol No offense to anyone who's from there...I visit my boys in Fresno and Bakersfield frequently, but everyone there looks like they just hopped out of 2003 and it smells like cow @#$% everywhere

It's the same in SF/Oakland and it's not like you have right up until 2am to do work.

Last call is generally at 1:30, lights start coming on an ****, whole vibe changes, etc. :{

Generally that's true, but there are a bunch of clubs that stay open til 4 in SF. Temple and Ruby Skye are big clubs and are always open til that late

haven't been to the west so I can't say but I doubt anything can compare to NYC especially in the summer

Yeah, that humidity sure is nice :x I'll enjoy my 70-80 degree non sticky summer weather in SF/SB/Coastal LA County cities. NYC during the Spring and Fall is much better

I was born in Hartford and raised throughout the northeast.  Currently live in Cincinnati which I really enjoy (minus the lack of nba team.)  I've been to Cali probably a dozen times and I love Cali! Not LA though, I like being able to breathe.  But SD is great and I'd love to go back.  Not east or west but I also really liked San Antonio.  I was there for a few weeks when pops was working as an engineer and it was awesome.  Any big city in Texas has always been

at least in my experiences.  With that said, I'm an east coast guy at heart and I'll end up back there eventually.

I mean it's always safe to say that NYC > Cali in general because it'll always be a fact that you can go from NYC to anywhere else and make it....but coming into NYC from somewhere else....nah you'll be in for a rude awakening.

I like Cali cuz I can **** around with it....finger it, slap it around, don't give a **** about the place then come back to NYC and it'll all be good.

Lotta good points to Cali I must say but it doesn't make a young person feel the type of energy that nyc does. Fantastic place to chill and have a good time for sure.

With that said SF>other cali cities.

I hope to live there for a bit one day.

I'm in Sacramento

1 hr flight to Vegas

1.5 hr drive to SF/beach

1.5 hr flight to LA

1.5 hr drive to snowboard

I don't live in a crowded a** city and get to do all the things i love to do. Where else would i want to go?

I've always wondered why a flight to LA is about 1.25-1.5 hours whereas a flight to Long Beach is only 58 minutes (I've been on that flight about 40 times

) and LB is further south of LA........... mind blown

Im an east coast dude

But I've been riding with the west for AWHILE now

For the past 2 years, due to work, I've been to the Bay roughly under 20 times, and LA multiple

And if you think I am biased, then NO I AM NOT. I have only RECENTLY visted California and I've been to NYC SO MANY TIMES prior to that.

"Women weed and weather" :hat

Soon as i touch down, all the Asian cuisines be there.

My homies hit me up with the finest smokes, GSC!

And the girls, extra friendly.

Weather be perfect, top down, all the way to Twin Peaks

And i saw some pics posted already of Highway 1....me and couple homies from the east made a coastal trip 3 months ago, driving from SF to San Diego, and back up for 5 days. We stocked the ride with :smokin, stopped whenever we felt tired to rest and check out the local spots. Easily one of the most memorable trips of my life.

And being Vietnamese, ya'll know how i felt hitting up San Jo and Orange County to see my folks :)

I'll stop there, but with all those reasons above, and those reasons alone, are enough for me to come back to CA.

I usually fly into Burbank or Ontario through Southwest.

When I flying to LA, I go with Soutwest as well to LAX. But for LB, I fly jetblue

Never fly anywhere south with U.S. Airways. That bull @#$% airlines takes you to Phoenix for 2-3 hours before flying you to Vegas or San Diego :| I only used them because I joined my friends in those cities at the last minute and had no other affordable option

These threads turn into the most pointless arguments. Always comparing a whole state to a city, how does that even work?

It definitely doesn't have the same energy as NYC and I can see why a New Yorker would feel like it's boring.

Out of curiosity where were you frequenting during the week?

I would never try to convince a New Yorker Cali is "better". They're just very different. I could never give up the beaches, weather, mountains etc just like most New Yorkers wouldn't want to give up the city lifestyle and all of its advantages

Ah!...you see that last sentence is what resonates with me, as I've stated before I live in Westchester county, outside of the city and rarely do I even set foot into the city since I don't ride the subway much and driving down there is a major headache...so I really wouldn't have any problem trading the "city life" for what you mentioned.

No offense but if you don't live in NYC and don't want to take the subway or drive in, I'm not sure your opinion is fully valid in terms of true NYC life, why would you prefer NYC if you don't want to make the effort to be there?

i would love to visit NYC one day, but live there..hell naw, it seems too overrated in terms of the price.
you are paying mad money to live in a OLD *** city that needs a good scrubbing..

i would move there if i was established and well off just cause i could and have money to buy a spot in NYC..

the burbs around san diego are a nice place to settle down, if you married and want to start a fam.

i was born and raised in cali, moved to GA of all places for 3 years then came back..

i've visited every state in the southern US, but havent even gone to northern california..never been past LA..
frown.gif

So even though you've never been to NYC you know you wouldn't want to live there because it's "overrated in terms of the price" BUT you would move there if you could afford it? That don't even make no cotdamn sense! Just sounds like your opinion is mostly based off of being broke.

AND...

All of California stops selling liquor at 2am..

The bay is nice San Fran Monterrey napa valley..it's one of those spots to visit for a day, wine tasting n ish.

But the party spot are la and San Diego. Lots of college girls.

The only thing Vegas has on us is that they stay open later, the local chicks are mostly trailer trash or ghetto.
You might get lucky with a girl visiting unless her fat friend starts crying that she's hungry so she will have to bail..

The best spot I went to party was Rosarito, I hooked up with 3 girls on one night all named Jessica..
But Mexico is all messed up, this was like 07..

The ones I bagged were all dimes too, my favorite out of all 3 was half Japanese and half Mexican and she went to San Marcos, that was also the other good thing about it most chicks lived in SoCal, another Jessica lived in Downey and her parents happened to own a house here where I live..:smokin

Okay...in the first post you "havent even gone to northern california..never been past LA" but in this post "The bay is nice San Fran Monterrey napa valley..it's one of those spots to visit for a day, wine tasting n ish."

Plus, you hooked up wth 3 dimes named Jessica all in the same night? :rolleyes Do you ever tell the truth?

As a man born and raised on the east and went to school in LA...I gotta say I absolutely love the West, that laid back mentality and just chill life style.

Chill laid back style of the West > the hustle and grind of the East

Living in California isn't fair.

Being able to drive on Pacific Coast Highway isn't fair.

Being able to drive through the valley isn't fair.

Being able to drive through the desert and think about UFO's in Vegas isn't fair.

West Coast is a beautiful thing man.

But that damn traffic :{

I know 101/280/880 like I know 95/495/66/28 and DMV traffic > bay traffic

The west coast is nice to visit, and maybe if you're in your 40's sure a nice place to live. But when you're building your nest I just can't see living there, everything is more expensive than the economy it's being sold in.

In New York yes things are expensive if you don't know where to look, no one pays $12.00 for cigs, I do not smoke but everyone I know usually drives to the reservation or knows someone who does and gets a pack for $5.00.

The subway is cheaper than driving, and if I need a car there's zip car.  I surf at Rockaway beach my cousin has a beach house.

My rent isn't that bad, and I make decent money.

I just can't see us that weren't born with a silver spoon in our mouths logically agreeing Cali is a nice place to live for 18-35 year olds on their grind.

I got around fine with the Caltrain before I started getting rentals. I don't think even with a subway system like the east CA ppl would even take it. I don't blame them. I'd rather drive and take in all the scenery CA has to offer. We straphangers are quite spoiled.

West coast, great place to visit. East coast, great place to make it. :hat

? Most of the Bay Area has access to the BART which is basically the same as the NYC Subway (Except it shuts down early :{) or Caltrain (used more for people who work between SF and the South Bay). LA has the Metro too, I just don't think it's as popular down there since the area is much more spread out.

I live in SF and haven't driven anywhere in weeks (my car is 45 minutes away at my parents' house)
