TCU AD Chris Del Conte fired back at Gordon Gee today

http://angrytrey.blogspot.com/2010/11/tcu-ad-chris-del-conte-fires-back-at.html

Ian Fitzsimmons: What was your reaction when you saw his (Gordon Gee) comments today?

Chris Del Conte: I sat back and just thought about our football program and our coach and realized that when they start throwing stones at our house, they must be jealous. We have a phenomenal football program. Our coach has done a great job, we were undefeated last year in the regular season and we are undefeated right now and someone now starts taking shots at TCU, that means we have arrived.

Secondly, I start to look at their non-conference schedule made up of the MAC schools whether it be Ohio, Eastern Michigan…I start to go wow, I had no idea that they were going out and testing themselves week in and week out.
-----------

Matt Mosley: You mean when you see Illinois and Northwestern get together you don’t get scared at the thought of having to play teams like that?

Chris Del Conte: It makes me quake in my boots, I know our coach is quaking, and I know the people of Ft. Worth are quaking.
-----------

Chris Del Conte: People that get entrenched in the old school system do not look at what’s happening in the landscape today. When Mr. Gee starts looking at what they play, I didn’t know Minnesota was a power, Indiana was power. Minnesota lost to a 1-AA team this year, Indiana got beat by 83. Anything can happen on any given Saturday.
-----------

Ian Fitsimmons: Will you be picking up the phone and calling Mr. Gene Smith up there the AD at Ohio State and see if you can get a home and home done?

Chris Del Conte: He is a dear friend of mine. You can count on it. Any time, any place, anywhere. Buckeyes against the Horned Frogs. Tee it up. Let’s go.

Chris Del Conte: A couple years ago the Mountain West had no respect. They (Utah) went and played Alabama and what did Utah do? They destroyed Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. We play great football it’s just that some people look at it and say hmm, who are they? When they get their teeth knocked in they go oh yeah, we know who they are now.

Go represent TCU - please stomp the most overrated team of the last 5 years.

BSU - Georgia next year - we will see what the SEC is all about.

Funny you dont hear any Pac-10 schools taking shots at TCU/BSU - Oregon and Oregon St. not really gonna speak up on the issue.

To my friend Chester - I hope we see you in Glendale for Round 3.

I think TCU and Boise should both offer up opportunities to Ohio State. If they say no, make it publicly known they want no part of either team.

I agree. TCU has Oklahoma on the schedule for 2012, LSU in 2013 and 2014, and Arkansas in 2015 and 2016. I am hoping those teams live up to their agreement and dont back out.

TCU - Ohio State in Cowboys stadium to open the year ..... make it happen Jerry!

Boise State - Ohio State at Boise two weeks later ...... make it happen tOSU

Oregon State did it #justsayin

Yeah man Oregon State, Baylor, Tennessee Tech and Southern Methodist is a brutal OOC schedule.

So is Virginia Tech, Wyoming, Oregon State and Toledo

It pains me that Florida didnt get Boise or TCU last year.

I wish florida would have played one of them so bad and put an end to this, but of course, they play eachother in a bowl game again which proved ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

He wasnt saying our OOC was the toughest. He was just pointing out that OSU's OOC schedule is weak and Indiana, Purdue, etc...arent power houses. Dont talk about running a gauntlet when you have Eastern Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota on your schedule. TCU didnt start this, but they will finish it if OSU wants to walk the walk.

Fam, I am a UGA grad and I will say that UGA is a 5-6 team this year.  If you beat us next year so what?  What does that prove.  You can't possibly think beating UGA shows what "the SEC is all about".  If you win good job but don't even try to ride around next year trying to pony that into a MNC game appearance because that would just be a solid win.  I swear I am sick of this tough talk from yall like you play people.  TCU and Boise are damn good football teams this year but don't sit here and try to say that schedule really tests yall.  TCU AD is picking and choosing games to mention about Ohio State.  The ONLY thing people are jealous about is the fact that TCU or Boise will parlay that weak schedule into a MNC game appearance if Auburn loses at Bama which to me is very likely.  I wish I got to play yall's schedule every year.  We will see what happens in the Georgia Dome next year but if you win please don't try to hold that banner over the SEC and imply that because you beat UGA that yall would run through the SEC like it's nothing.

Word. UGA is going to be bad next year when AJ leaves.

Hell they are just avg with him now. Winning that game won't mean $$+ except the same thing it does every season. BSU wins 1 or two big games vs decent opponents and then runs though that cake schedule and pouts their chest out at the end of the season about why they deserve a title shot over teams who have had to battle quality opponents almost every weekand don't have the luxury of just showing up and being able to win.

And UF would have murdered Tcu or Boise last year.

Honestly I think we will be pretty good next year IF we have the recruiting class I think we will bring in and if the D continues to get progress especially in the secondary. I think Aaron Murray is a star and I still think the RBs can do something. WRs will have to step up but I think we will just go back to the type of team we were before AJ got here and not air it out as much. I think we have a very very good shot of beating Boise but there is no point for them to circle that on the calendar and try to use it as a feather in their cap to a MNC if they beat us. Who does Boise play the second week next year? We turn around and welcome the defending SEC East champs into Sanford. Level of competition is night and day.

Ok, lets strip away most of the big time recruits you get because you will now be recruiting against the BCS. Then, lets take away all that precious BCS money Georgia brings in from the SEC. Then, lets take away the money you get from your TV contract, then lets see how you do.

He is picking and choosing games because Gee said "its like a murderers row every week for these schools" when that isnt true for any conference not named the SEC. Ohio State has 8 home games this season. They have Marshall, Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, and Purdue on their schedule. That isnt a murders row. They play 3 challenging games. Nobody is sitting here and saying the MWC is harder than the Big Ten, but dont come at us with schedule trash talk when Ohio State's isn't great and the Buckeyes schedule according to Sagarin is only 9 spots higher than TCU. 59-68.

At least Georgia will schedule us. Florida/Bama are about the weakest ever when it comes to scheduling people. I am not by any means saying that our schedule is so brutal and tough but we win every game that we are supposed to and most games we aren't. What type of argument are you going to have if Boise plays LSU/Auburn/Oregon and wins. Kinda makes the argument moot.

Food for thought: If Oregon had played in the WAC last year the best they could have finished was 2nd and thus gone to the Humanitarian Bowl...

I hope tOSU runs in to one of these squads & gets @+!@@%* steamrolled.

just like boise state saying nobody would play them but the real reason was they wanted home and home serise when nobody was going to do that.

Actually there are spots open in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017 depending on how the conference stuff plays out. If you want to have a real discussion then at least be right with your accusations.

Or maybe they could drop Akron, Toledo, or Colorado next season....

Like I have said before, there are two easy solutions to this problem.

1. Playoff
2. Schedule and beat us

With one loss non-aq's are out of any BCS discussion. Its that easy. If TCU and Boise arent legit then it should be pretty easy to beat them.

There is ONE reason we are even playing Boise. Our new AD wants to get out of all these home and home's we got scheduled in the next few years. We aren't trying to go out to the west coast to play teams anymore. We wanted to get out of the Lousiville series because who wants to play a home and home with them. Plus it set up a bunch of road games to begin the season in '12. Playing the Boise game in Atlanta allowed us to get out of the contract without losing money, instead we are getting 1.7 mill and got out of the Louisville series. It was a win/win. There is not a lot of reason for UF or Bama to play Boise. Yall can forget about that. I mean I get what you are saying about getting BCS money and the big time recruits but I fail to see how you use that as an reason to get in the MNC. You can't say you do more with less and then say you are the best team. You either are the best team or you are not. If there was a playoff this obviously would be a moot point. With the system we have in place there is not enough of a body of work for Boise or TCU to get in IMO. If Auburn goes down Friday, my opinion won't matter and one of yall will get your shot so.

^2015 OSU is playing us in Blacksburg; they would be fools to schedule TCU as an out of conference game the same season.

Surprise surprise Gameday in Corvallis for Civil War.

There was a fire on campus that knocked out communications and power to about 10 buildings, which forced a campus wide closure at noon...

But the boys basketball game still went on and I still had a travel meeting for the Stanford game.

'12-'13 they have a series with Cal.
'14-'15 VaTech.
'16-'17 Oklahoma.
'18-'19 Tennessee.

Not to mention they had tcu scheduled for last year but tcu never pulled through and signed the agreement:
"I'd say Ohio State really wanted it," TCU associate athletic director Jack Hesselbrock, who handles the Horned Frogs' football scheduling, said last week. "They had an opening and needed an opponent, and I think the fans would have liked it and been intrigued by it."

This talk about Ohio St, come play us or we'll complain about how you are afraid, is ridiculous. It's obvious they'll play anyone if its monetarily beneficial. What gain would they have to play Tcu or Boise? Its a lose-lose and this is coming from someone who thinks both programs could beat whomever in the top10 this year.

Yes Ohio St plays cupcakes - and yes, its embarassing. But a big10 schedule plus a marquee OOC game is still better than playing in the MWC or WAC.
President Gee said what he was supposed to say. I dont agree with him but his university is gaining substantially from the system. This is why until these old president's leave, we'll never have a playoff.

Bama's weak when scheduling? I believe they sent out a open challenge to any team open to playing them in Jerry World in 2012, yeah that means Boise State too. Only team that took them on their challenge was Michigan. So you can dead that argument.

If Boise State wants home and homes, first thing they need to do is expand that stadium. Nobody wants a home and home with Boise because other teams don't want them having full concessions selling out their stadium. Nebraska didn't wanna do it because their stadium was a little under 34,000. Well Nebraska travels about 40,000.

Exactly, Statis.. You want home and homes, add seats and get a field that doesnt look like a circus sideshow.

Does nobody any good to make a road trip to Boise or TCU.. No money to be made and nothing to gain from it on the football field..
