HBO The Idol | The Weeknd & Lilly Rose Depp | Co created by Sam Levinson | Sunday 9PM

“I’m ******* ****ting more blood than a kid on Epstein’s island” is truly amazing dialogue.

Show went back to being bad episode 4  but theres enough here to keep me watching.

she wildin for bring her ex over to smash like she isnt living with a crazy person.

honestly speaking this show is not good but intriguing. the weekend is just not believable.

haven't seen episode 4 yet though

i guess it's iykyk. i haven't peeped any episodes yet but it's pretty much 50/50 on twitter. everyone in the industry seems to relate to it and everyone on the outside is just clowning "bad acting"

He’s playing the role perfectly. It’s intentional. How people are missing it for bad acting is beyond me.

If his role is supposed to be an weirdo loser who watches 8 hours of porn a day and spends every minute desperately failing at trying to be a tough guy, sure
But I very much doubt that's the intention. His acting makes this character look like an incel's imagination of an edgy playboy crook.

Yeah, that’s all intentional to heighten the camp of it all. But the reality is, there’s nothing really mysterious or hypnotizing about him. And we did that on purpose with his look, his outfits, his hair—the guy’s a douchebag. You can tell he cares so much about what he looks like, and he thinks he looks good. But then you see these weird moments of him alone—he rehearses, he’s calculated. And he needs to do that, or he has nothing, he’s pathetic. Which is true of a lot of people who are a fish out of water, put into these scenarios.

You look at him, and this is a score—Jocelyn might be the biggest score he’s ever had. It’s very obvious. He’s over-indulging, he walks into this house looking around like, Goddamn, am I way over my head? This can be the biggest job I’ve ever done. Whatever it is that he’s doing. Even the sex, it’s so gluttonous [laughs]. Especially in episode 2. ‘Gluttony’ is the only word I can think of [to describe it]. He can’t believe he’s there. He comes off like such a loser. Those moments are the humanity that you find in a psychopath, the ***** in his armor.

soooo i guess he's good at acting?

The outrage and pushback is not all the way genuine

HBO had big production series that was boring and definitely with way less entertainment value didn’t get call out publicly

Weeknd acting the reason for all this  nah

Which series?

To me, a HBO drama not being up to expected quality usually gets public criticism.

Westworld got to of criticism for a fall off is quality

True Detective S2 got roasted for the fall off in quality, by critics and online.

Broadwalk Empire minor fall off got criticism

Fam, the biggest show they ever had, Game of Thrones, got roasted for its final season.

It seems to be that people that like this show are finding it easier to act like every person that criticizes this show is acting in bad faith.

Nah

Maybe some do, but this show has clear issues. A lot of them.

They, that comment just makes the show look worse. And doesn't make his acting look better.

So Tedros is just a loser weirdo, and Weeknd is playing up the camp?

Well, the rest of the show isn't that campy. It is tryna be for comedic effect, they are falling at it severely. The only thing I found legit funny was the two maids talking in Spanish.

Even if that was Weeknd is going for, since apparently the cult leader thing is not gonna be used, all his scenes I just get the feeling that with better writing and a more skilled actor the scenes would be more impactful. Most of his scenes he just seems flat in them. Especially when he has to show a little bit of range.

Like with most things with this show, sounds good on paper. Doesn't look as good in motion.

That's fine and all, but the dude in the show has a damn near cult around him.
The dialogue for his character definitely doesn't help but I don't think there's any multiverse where his influence and actions in the show come off as believable.

There are legit, multiple real world examples of this

Even easier, Trump is a cult leader too. An idiot. A Buffoon who you wouldn’t believe. You see it yet?
