You don’t want your business to suffer but then when it hits home you don’t know what to say or do

I find this fascinating. Maybe some others will too.

So there has been discussion that maybe some fraction of the population is already immune to covid-19. This sounds like great news, right? Let's say we need 60% of the population to be immune to get herd immunity. Well, if 50% are already immune somehow, then we only need 10% to get the virus.

But it's not that simple. In reality, we estimated the contagiousness of this virus based on the assumption that nobody started out immune. This is quantified by R0. The thing is, R0 determines the threshold for herd immunity. A higher R0 means a higher threshold. BUT... if we started with 50% already immune, then our estimate of R0 is off. If we estimated R0 at 2.0, the true number is 4.0. Which means the threshold for herd immunity might be 90%, not 60%. Which means we would need 40% of the population to get the virus.

edit: The discussion in the second link ('statmodeling') is pretty interesting on its own. A big question is to what degree this virus may be fizzling out on its own in hard-hit cities like NYC or Madrid (there isn't strong evidence either way but it's something to look out for).
