What a lot of people also fail to realize is that poor whites were in the same economic status of slaves ( not socially). There were whites working out in the fields as slaves as well. The actual percentage of slaveholder with plantations was in the minority.  The norm was having one slave for most whites with a decent amount of money and property. It was the elite families with large plots of land that had lots of slaves.  Slavery ended because it was ruining the economy of the u.s. The unfair labor system of slavery created too much surplus of product which would drive prices down. The north became industrialized and the south was too invested in keeping their lifestyle and social hierarchy.

Mother's
its been known for centuries that his mother Nancy Hanks had an affair with a slave.
Lincoln's dad was a slave from KY named Emis Ill find sources when I get to the crib

Would be very interested in reading those.
i thought abe linco released the slaves so that they could used in the civil war, giving him an advantage in man power.

I read some time ago that shark migratory patterns in the Atlantic follow the old slave trade shipping routes from African to Europe, America, & the Carribean. Ships used to dump slaves overboard so much so that sharks followed these ships to eat. To think that sharks still follow these migratory patterns is crazy.

I've heard this before. There's also another name floating out there, I can't remember the name atm.

The world was known to be round in ancient greece. They actually calculated the earths circumference pretty accurately as well.

Lincoln was a tyrant and a hypocrite.

The Emancipation proclamation didn't free the slaves, it permitted slavery in border States. Read the document.

He was a racist. Arrested over 3,000 journalists for talking bad about the war in military tribunals, and arrested legislatures that were against the Civil War. He was against Secession, but was ok with West Virginia leaving Virginia because he would gain 2 more Senators.

The Civil War wasn't over slavery, it was over the South seceding because of the excise taxes. Most of the country's imports were coming from the South because the North only had 3 ports ,and the Northern Industrialists were losing money (the South represented about 75% of the taxes). Lincoln knew his government would collapse if the South left, that's why he provoked the war by sending Union troops to Charleston. Also, he was the first big Insider Trader. He was a lawyer for the railroads and gave them huge subsidies.

Scumbag and I hope that douche is burning in hell.

Poor whites fought the Civil War for a few rich plantation owners.  Just like in today's society, poor whites fight for the small percentage of the rich.

The South seceded because of a states right to slavery.  Perhaps the real reason that the North did not allow the South to secede was because of the excise taxes?

Lincoln and his view on slavery and black people is vastly complicated...

He had a terrible position but over time became a man who was swayed by what he saw... One of the people he met with a great deal while President was Frederick Douglass.. And much of what he saw about slavery during his presidency was shaped by 3 things...

1. Meetings with Slave Abolitionists and perceptions of the people of the South who went so far to protect their "cash crop" (slavery) that they would destroy the country
2. The essential assistance slaves and freed slaves did for the Union during the Civil War
3. Was to his military advantage if he f'd over the south by crippling their economy

(not in that order)

Funny how that works out. People would rather appear to be associated with people with power rather than have some of their own.

Lincoln did everything in his power to save the union.  Like it or not, it was the biggest event our nation has ever faced and he took the tough measures necessary to ensure the mission's success.

Lincoln didn't provoke the South by sending troops to Charleston.  Several states had already formally succeeded by that point.  If Lincoln was truly a tyrant, did he extent an olive branch towards the South after the North soundly defeated them and destroyed every major city they had?  He would have done like most politicians do after a war and demand that the opposing general be put on trial for war crimes.  Instead, he respected the generals of the South and allowed them to serve their remaining years in comfort and retirement.

religion, lol.

Things I've learned over the years:

Egyptians had electricity.

Islam had made a big impression on the Philippines before Spanish Catholicism. (not exactly a big secret, but something they don't necessarily advertise. Interesting nonetheless since Islam came after Christianity)

America literally stole Hawaii from its own people and imprisoned it's people for speaking its native language.

We are actually at war with Mexico right now and have been for a long time. (this is vague because pointing out who Mexico "is", the people at power is complicated)
nerd.gif

Modern Christianity was developed and is ran by the people who assassinated Jesus, or Yeshua. They took over the religion less than a century after the crucifixion. The original Christianity was much closer to Bhuddism and Tibetan practices.

No dude. The South did not secede because of Slavery. There were almost as many slaves in the North than the South a year prior to the war, and on top of it, Blacks lived a much more oppressive life in the North.

Slavery was being phased out because of the technology that was being developed 10-20 year prior to the war. Slavery was slow, unproductive and inefficient for Southern farmers to compete with farmers that weren't using slaves for their farms. The South seceded anyway because of the ever increasing tariffs that drove up prices for the South and threatened to cut their South's exports.

Oh please. Every other country in the world ended slavery WITHOUT a war. 600,000 American lives were killed because of an unnecessary war.

If the Civil War was over slavery, then wouldn't it make more sense for Lincoln to buy all the slaves in the South and then free them in the North (the Confederate Constitution BANNED the importation of slaves)? In 1860 the U.S. Census concluded that there were less than 260,000 slaves in the South and almost 225,000 in the North. And Charleston's population was 10% of Free Blacks. The Emancipation Proclamation didn't free slaves in any State that was loyal to the North or in the North at all, in Lincoln's own words he declared "necessary war measure for suppressing said rebellion", so he basically told the South that Slavery is ok, just stop fighting. But, the South didn't stop, because it wasn't over slavery.

Lincoln extended "olive branches". The man intentionally targeted civilians. Ever heard of the "Anaconda Plan"? The Union army blocked food and medicine from getting into the South, General Sherman declared "collective responsibility" in allowing his troops to steal everything that looked of value in Southern homes, Sherman told his soldiers to "make the damned traitorous rebel women and children howl". The March through Georgia is probably one of the worst war crimes in history.

And above all, because of the Civil War, it led to Reconstruction, which was a terrible for Blacks.

If true, this is absolutely crazy.

EDIT: Shark story has to be BS. All the places that tell this story speak about millions of africans being thrown overboard, but that would mean maaaany more millions had to be brought to the americas along those same routes just to facilitate that amount of people being thrown overboard due to death or sickness. The math doesnt really make sense, and then on top of that, sharks' short term memory is like 2 minutes.

I second this but mainly because Andrew Johnson (Lincolns VP who also once owned slaves) was so sympathetic to the southern cause, which was a total 180 from what republicans(northerners and abolitionists) at the time expected(hence his impeachment).  Reconstruction was needed for social purposes and it's plan was Lincoln's idea which may have gone the same even if Lincoln wasn't killed (Lincoln way overrated in history books)..   Reconstruction's idea had it's positives up until the military pulled out and left blacks to suffer from the backlash by poor whites and former slave holders who were being challenged now by a cheaper labor force and political uncertainty by black voters.. Hence the creation of the KKK.... Think about it folks, there was no KKK during antebellum period (slave times) only rogue bands of poor whites who tormented free blacks and white southerners used this fear factor to control the politics of the south up until 1970s in some parts.....

Our country's political split can be traced back to the civil war and reconstruction.. look at blue/red states... the only diff is now dems are liberal and rep are conservs (back then reps were liberal and dems conserv.  flip flop but same fundamental split)

Rashi i know for the most part you are anti big gov but this was a case in American History where it's indisputable that the gov was needed for citizen protection from domestic terrorists..

KKK=first and most deadly terrorist org in our country's history...
