Houston Rockets Thread 2024/2025 - NBA DraftTime, Sheppard On Deck

Glad to see the Rockets and won and looked good even though it was against the Bulls. Gotta catch the highlights later. Had to watch some dvr shows with the lady :{

Wall looked really explosive and still under control out here. There’s obvious rust, but he looked good.

Slim Boogie could be a game changer, but the best thing for him is for Bruno to crack the rotation and be able to fairly relieve him.

Liked seeing all these young guys in general get a chance. Even in a preseason game that would not happen with MDA.

Gerald Green may never lose his athleticism.

Just peeped the highlights and man this can be an exciting team to watch. A team that was missing Harden, PJ and Wood. It looks like Wall hasn’t lost his speed at all. Boogie looked great. The offense looked like it flowed maybe cause Harden ain’t there to dribble dribble dribble until 5 sec left on the clock. If Harden do decide to run with this squad and if we can stay healthy, instant contenders.

Tate looks way bigger than 6'4 and what I remember of him at tOSU... he was a SG there basically and now he played PF today.. he really might be PJ's replacement, looked like him when it came to hustling tonight with all the tap outs.

Wall and Boogie looked pretty solid.

Bruno turning into Brazilian KD today with all the 3's :pimp:

It's meaningless preseason vs the Bulls, but Silas got me excited...

I still think KJ will be the Tucker replacement (just needs some experience) same size, position, more athletic, but has the ugliest shot on earth, but it falls alot. So I guess whatever works (worked with Shawn Marion) so... I mean the guy didn't even play college ball, but you could be right about Tate.

PJ is gone by trade deadline anyways, Tilmans not reupping him, unless he takes a huge pay cut ,and I don't see Tucker taking a payout with an organization thats got him in a tight spot by not giving him an extension when he's clearly earned it and this will be his last good size contract he gets due to his age.

If Wall and Boogie stay healthy, big "IF" squad could be scary. That's why its so baffling to me Harden wants out soooooo bad NOW, and hasn't even given this squad or coach a chance (Hell even Westbrook), dude played all of 57 games lasts season under a coach who couldn't figure out how to use them together. Some of those games Jim was out, with minor injuries or load management anyways. So let's just say 50 games played together for the duo for sake of argument. Then in the bubble he was recovering from injuries and COVID-19. WB never had a chance. To even adjust to this style of play.

Might have to keep an eye on this Bruno kid, didn't think he'd be much, but a 2 way g leaguer, but looks like he could actually end up being a solid rotation player.

Can someone help me out, I cut the cord last year and figured they'red be an NBA (or even just Rockets games) streaming service by now. Question being is there an app or something I can subscribe to currently? So I can actually catch these games. Money isn't really the issue, I thought I'd get games with ESPN+, but thats not been the case... so far its all 30/30 episodes mostly.

One thing I saw was even when the game was near the end and the Bulls were scoring, Silas called a TO to get the guys to regroup. He did that during a preseason game. MDA would’ve let the score get to 112-108 before calling one. That guy’s such a bum.

Biggest differences I saw were playing faster, switching less, and deeper roster. Even if it’s the preseason, I could see EG, Nwaba, Caboclo, Mclemore, Boogie, and Gerald all playing decent minutes off the bench.

Wall/Nwaba
Harden/EG/Mclemore
House/Green
Tucker/Caboclo/Tate
Wood/Boogie

Is it certain Wood is playing the 5? Or is it he’ll ply the 4 when he shares the floor with boogie like Silas mentioned before?

Gerald forever my guy

last quote I seen Silas mentioned Wood would be a 5.

That second quarter truly felt like a preseason game, it was rough. Also, I think someone else will have to replace Chris Clemons. I’ve heard people mention Isiah Thomas or Shabazz Napier and I’d be fine with either too. He just constantly chucks the ball like it’s NBA Street or something. Like what I see from Wall and Cousins so far. I guess he’ll see what’s up when Harden and PJ get here.

Right now I’m curious to who makes those latter roster spots, cause it seems like we’ve been signing so many guys :lol

Also, though I didn’t feel like Clemons was going to make the final roster, that Achilles injury sucks. I instantly knew that’s what it was cause he had the exact reaction as KD.

The latter half of the 3rd quarter and on had some very good defense. So many guys hustling and making plays, and Silas have them the opportunity to. If MDA was still here, Harden and PJ still would’ve been playing late in the 4th quarter.

There’s really some dogs here, hope they’re able to be consistent and develop

the biggest reason the 2017-2018 team was so successful was depth, lineup combinations, and versatile wings. always having james or CP on court with a combination of gordon/ariza/LMAM/Tucker being interchangeable at 2-4 spots and capela/nene at 5 was stifling on defense.

it's obviously a great value brand version of that team, but wall, nwaba, tucker, tate, gordon, house, brown and wood can all be plus defenders, and with the exception of tucker, all can run in transition. Hoping to see us speed up the game a little more this season.

right now i see the depth chart being:

wall/nwaba
harden/gordon/mclemore
house/brown
tucker/tate
wood/boogie/caboclo

Silas also seems to actually utilize depth. Dallas's playoff rotation was short in part due to injuries to KP and Powell, but they ran 8-10 guys with the last 3 or so getting around 10 minutes a game. They also had 10 guys play upwards of 15mpg in the regular season. Again, part of that due to injury, but hopeful we'll also run a 10 man rotation during the regular season and only cut to 8-9 in the playoffs.

Right now I’m curious to who makes those latter roster spots, cause it seems like we’ve been signing so many guys

my understanding of the salary cap rules and things i've read seem to indicate that we are really close to the hard cap and Clemons non-guaranteed 1.5M contract becomes guaranteed until he's healthy. Since we can't cut him and we have to pay him, it limits our ability to find a replacement and stay under the apron and may result in gerald green getting cut unless we can trade clemons as filler in a deal or attach a future 2nd round pick to him.

It’s almost time for that move y’all

pure conjecture here, but from what is being put out there, the rockets and sixers have definitely discussed a harden/simmons swap. now it's just negotiating simmons + what combo of players and picks gets it done.

That first look at Wood gave you a peak as to why they gave him that deal in the first place. Cot damn. The stuff he was doing was what I was waiting on Capela to do all that time.
