I usually get in 6-7 hours of sleep everyday. How harmful (long-term) is it to sleep 4-5 hours daily?

really?

it affects your entire performance throughout the day. unless you're balancing with chemicals like caffeine and really ******g yourself up.

i need 8. tend to get 6. occasionally 5.

I need a last minute new years resolution to manage time better. :lol

op i tried to sleep less but ur body automatically shuts down until u get an avg of 8

I drink natural green tea in the morning.. plus when I don't get 6 hrs of sleep or more, I don't see any significant decline in my performance. I heard oversleeping can be harmful too. Any truth to that?

How old are you? I feel like they've been preaching 8 hours of sleep a night since I was in middle school.

23, yeah I've always been told 8hrs of sleep, but ain't nobody got time fo' dat.. I have stuff to do and 24 hrs ain't enough when 8 of those are spent sleeping.

That's why I am curious about the long term affects.

unless your sleeping 12 hours a day, i dont think its possible to cause any harm unless your asleep more than you are awake :lol

then you got other issues

I sleep about 6.5-7 hours a day. That's a lot when I compare it to what I used to sleep. Worked graveyard shift for almost 6 years. Had weekends off, but then I would party instead of sleep. 4-5 hours would do wonders for me back then...

Supposedly its very bad not to get a good amount of sleep for an extended period of time. I know it weakens your immune system and has been linked to depression and heart disease.

Anyone else like the benefits of sleep but find it extremely difficult to actually give in to sleep no matter how exhausted you are?

I've noticed that you can close your eyes and shut your body down for what usually amounts to like 5 minutes of sleep and usually equates to around 25 secs of a half-asleep pseudo-dream and you'll be surprisingly refreshed when you "wake up".

Its different for everyone.. 8 hours sleep seema to be preached a lot. But a lot of people swear by the biphasic sleeping cycle. Where you do 6ish hours and take a nap. A lot of studies support it too.

More than 8 hours a day has shown to be harmful.. As in causes brain shrinkage.. Same as tooo little..

I did a polyphasic sleeping schedule for a few months but kept failing when i couldnt handle drinking at all...

The real answer is there is no real answer

i honestly think its just different for everyone. i think i need 9 hours to function at my best but generally get 6 and an hour napping.

right now my legs in a cast though and i've been sleeping all ****** up :{

gunna be one of those nights where i don't sleep at all til the suns up despite the fact im tired as fuark
