Can someone explain to me the process of getting all of that water removed from NYC?

Is it as simple as waiting for it to evaporate?

Sorry for my ignorance, being serious here.

well, the water in the subway will have to be pumped out. Otherwise the water will recede and evaporate yeah.

All them rats are prob having pool parties as we speak. smh

Well they'll be some water that retreats as the oceans, lakes, rivers all settle.. Then you have the water that will just go through the sewage drains, etc.(but I'm sure those are all filled or backing up).  So majority of the water will have to be pumped, no doubt... the areas of lesser concern will have to just wait for natural evaporation/absorption.

New York water supply is contaminated for sure with roaches and rats and all kinds of mess. Its like the biggest city in the world just went underwater

I don't mean to haarp on this topic, but I really don't recall NY getting hit with these types of storms at this rate growing up.

man I hope so. This is the craziest pic in the thread. Keep them coming guys and it can't be said enough stay safe out there. All my family and friends lost power so i'm basically in the dark about their wellbeing. Feelsbadman

Pumped out? I know people pump out their basements, but pumping out a whole damn city? What is big enough to pump out all of that? The hell?

especially with power lines underground that need to be repaired, water would have to be pumped out, lines have to be tested, and THEN they could actually start the repairs.

This will take a while.

They'll use vacuum trucks similar to this. Along with other methods, pumping the water to sewer drainage, etc,etc..

Man i seen the craziest $&"/ on channel 12(for u jersey heads). In one county they cant use water at all cause the sewer water is mixed in with the clean water. Imagine being in a house without power and not being able to use water? Thankful thay my power never went out My girl said her water pipes were bursting and her basement flooded. Gonna b awhile before things get back to normal

I never seen anything like it in my 24 years.

Btw **** american apparel for that email people dying, losing their homes to floods and fires and they wanna throw a hurricane sale :{

Honestly, I'm no expert, but I'm going to assume, that they will, after the water levels drop, pump the drain/sewer systems, and they rest will follow on the way out.

Global warming. Back to back years of hurricanes coming through the northeast. Before a hurricane hitting the northeast was unimaginable. Now it is suddenly part of living in the northeast.

So how long do you guys think everything will be back up and running?

best case scenario would probably be 1 week....But It will be much longer. Lower manhattan and other parts of NY will not have power for at least 4-7 days. Even when the water is completely pumped out of the subway, they still have to see if there is any damage.
