Hey guys, I have a buddy who's looking for a new gig in the DC area. Background is in VOIP, but has IT experience as well. Military background, secret clearance as well. If anyone has any openings, or know of any first-hand.. definitely shoot me a PM.  Thanks!

Any one in any logistics/operations/supply chain jobs? I'm looking into applying for some in the near future, was trying to see the things i need.

Does he only want to be in the DC area? I have a friend who has his CCNA & CCNP in VOIP and does it, but he is down in Quantico. I can ask if they have anything in that area or a little further north for you as well.

Apply for even low paying
What's up everyone, just wanted to see if any of you had any tips or advice on getting a federal government job without a degree. I served for about 6 years in the US Coast Guard as a Yeoman. I'm currenly in school using my GI bill to finish up my degree in Finance. I only have class once a week and would like to get a much better full time job as I currently work full time for Nike. I've applied for some positions on USAjobs.gov the past few months but have yet to hear anything back. I am located in the Boston area.

Thanks in advance

Apply for low paying admin jobs, just get your foot in the door. A lot of feds starting at low wage/low skill jobs and worked their way up relatively quick. You just have to show a little promise and when a job opens up internally you hop on it.

Been working for fed 7-8 and many get good paying jobs this way.

Anybody in here work with FEMA?

I took a job with FEMA for a position in Sacramento, but the clearance process was taking so long for me that I swerved over to Arizona and worked for the VA :smh:

I did some tryouts/trainings with them down in Anniston, AL a couple years back.

Secret Service is hiring ALOT of Special Agents!

A plus is you're really physically fit, have a degree and military. A huge plus if your degree is in Computer/IT field HUGE!!!!!!!

Base salary means nothing, USSS gets TONS of overtime, you'll be in the six figures your first year guaranteed.

Hit me for more info.

That mobility agreement scares me.

Yeah, not a career for anyone trying to settle down and raise a family or even have a girlfriend or have consistent sleep.

It's 1811, you get in do your time in the GS and then try to get into a lead, asac or sac role in a different department/agency.

NT Fam I need help deciding.

Just got two offers; one from a Fortune 500 company in Miami in their management development program and the DOD as a contract specialist. I'm torn bc I love living in Miami and have an opportunity to work for a great company for really good pay, but I hear all of my gov't people telling me I'd be crazy to turn down an opportunity to become a contract specialist in the DMV area. The DOD job is a great opportunity for me to learn from the ground up do so much within the gov't. Plus the benefits are so good.

I want to do both :frown:

Lol I will never get over people treating the fed govt like it's the holy grail of jobs.

My advice look at the salary relative to the cost of living. Look at apartment cost in the dmv, look at commute times, and factor in quality of life.

What are your goals ? Go with whatever aligns best with your long term goals.?

Passed on gig. Not perm or temp. As needed I guess. Would be nice if I was single with no kids. Back to filing state apps for CA.

As a former Contract Specialist, I must say the job is extremely mundane/stale as you are essentially a paper pusher. The workload is never ending and depending on your personality/preferences might be a pro or a con. It pays well and you can jump Grades quickly to get more pay, but you will make far more in the Private Sector ($110,000 for a good Contracts Manager is easy).

I just got back from Miami a few days ago and I'm a beach person so I would prefer that to the terrible traffic in the DMV and shifty weather.
