Iron Man 3 (Movie Thread)-05/03/13 - New Trailer pg12 - Suits on Suits on Suits

which movie will make more money domestically? IM3 or Superman?

the suits were obviously UNDER used.. i get that he crash landed in tennesse, but as soon as dude was able to tap into jarvis, he should have had ANOTHER suit (or 10) sent his way
If I remember correctly, he couldn't call for another suit cause the debris blocked the doorway to his other suits. I think JARVIS lets him know later that the cranes just arrived at his house, meaning the door would be accessible soon

Superman easily.

I think it may even challenge the Avengers.

No way either of those things happen. Iron Man nearly hit 200m in its first weekend and while opinions haven't been so hot in it, it's still gonna finish around 400m domestic.

Man of Steel, as awesome as it looks, is still a reboot and people still have bad feelings about Superman Returns. I'm seeing it open around 100m and finish with 300m.

Really hard to predict, Superman Returns still has a bad taste in most peoples mouth and it is hard to get away from that even though the tv spots and trailers have been amazing.

IM2 sucked but IM3 is coming off the Avengers success, this is the first Marvel film since and people were left wanting more so there is that two different dynamic.

I think MoS has a chance to make TDK/TDKR number if they amp up their marketing further, just not sure it can be right up there with IM3 though I'd love to be proven wrong.

only watched it once.. but off the top of my head, i think the first time tony speaks of other suits was after the airplane rescue scene and he talks about "house party" plan or something

before that he only accesses jarvis through mark 42 once it gets back online.. but i assume he could have done it remotely from some place else (like how he accessed the network that pepper used to get his message in the helmet).. or prior to jarvis shutting down he could have had suit(s) sent out to tony

but i dont think debris should have been that big of an issue, considering the doors dont open upward (or inward).. sure debris would fall in when the doors would open, but once the suits were activated, they could blast their way out.. then go find/save tony and go from there

But wait no one else saw the Ant Man reference in the movie?  I coulda swore when Tony was buying things from the store he put up a bag that had the words "Ant" and "Grow" on it.  It was a brief moment, but I might watch it again on a $5 day to confirm.

Yah someone mentioned that in the thread already.

good point.. i guess they were trying to keep to the theme of less of iron man and more of tony stark

*puts nerd glasses on*....but all that debris would've just fallen inside and crushed the suits. You seen how flimsy they were once punched by an Extremis soldier, they'd just be able to "blast out" of being buried by rubble.

saw it last night and all the negatives I have to say about the movie have already been posted.

It all started going down hill for me when Tony all of a sudden showed up outside the mansion where the Mandarin was. With his ornament bombs and all :{

Then the Mandarin twist happened and I was

1000

watched the rest of the movie with the :rolleyes but did mark when all of the armors showed up on the scene.

Tony's reaction when Pepper fell into the flames was :x :{ . He emphasized earlier in the film that he couldnt live without her and then when that happens his reaction is extremely disingenuous.

Quality post :rollin

So I broke down and watched it yesterday and enjoyed it.

From what I understand the Marvel universe we've been watching since the first Iron Man movie is based on the Ultimate Marvel universe. If that is the case, isn't The Mandarin a terrorist organization and not an actual person?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandarin_(comics)#Ultimate_Marvel

Ultimate Marvel

In the Ultimate Marvel Universe, the Mandarin appears in a flashback in Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates, with Tony Stark in an earlier Armor prototype attacking Mandarin, who is holding James Rhodes captive.[35] This is actually not in continuity with the Ultimate Universe, as this is an Iron Man animated series sanctioned by Stark which Nick Fury is watching; The Mandarin is a fictional character invented for Stark's self-promoting cartoon.[36]

Although the initial Mandarin does not actually exist, a version of The Mandarin appears in Ultimate Comics: Iron Man as an organization rather than a lone supervillain.[37] Mandarin International is a company that helped Howard Stark build Stark International into a successful company. [38]Years later they reclaim what was "theirs", Tony Stark and his legacy. Stark located them in Hong Kong, and came into conflict with their "caretakers", Taku and Jane, who stole DNA from Stark and access their defense satellites. With help from War Machine and S.H.I.E.L.D., they were stopped and their facility was destroyed, although it sent a message to a caretaker, Li, from an unknown individual.[39]

So... why are people complaining again?

I think people need to just appreciate the movie for what it was and get over the twist.

its just people were hung up on seeing something that I couldve told them years ago was never going to happen. We werent going to see the mandarin in his comic form. wasnt going to happen. That doesnt automatically make a movie bad imo

bits and pieces here and there. itd be silly to not take the best pieces from various universes and put them together

So... Nick Fury was black and looked like Samuel L Jackson in the regular Marvel universe?

Well, it's just that "everybody" waited 3 movies to see Stark battle his #1 arch nemesis and then the way they hyped it up, you were meant to think it would be something epic. Would people have liked it if WB marketed The Dark Knight, like they did with the Joker, and then at the end of the movie, find out Heath was just some bumbling actor who was absolutely no threat, and it turns out the main villain was actually Crazy Quilt?

Taking elements isn't the basis for the universe. There are hints of it everywhere yes but the basis is the 616 Universe or OG. Taking the worst elements is stupid which is what occurred.

Saw it this weekend forgot to post in here. The movie was okay, I was a little disappointed. Marvel movies are a little too light for my taste (The Dark Knight series has spoiled me in terms of the darkness it brought which I loved) and this one did not disappoint in terms of it being family friendly. There were definitely some funny parts, like the exchanges between the kid and Downey, but they were trying to be funny at parts where it should've been more serious and it just resulted in an overall corny effect. Such as when Tony calls the suit doing whatever then it hits the barrel and breaks, as well as numerous other one liners that shouldn't have been included.

They had a lot of potential to make this one great but they didn't do it....

When Pepper kills the dude at the end I was just :{

Yeah, I think the people who "knew" the character of Mandarin were extremely disappointed. That and the expectations of Extremis. I attribute this to the trailers. Everyone was expecting something certain from the trailers; however, when you actually watch the film the trailers kind of mislead you. Unlike, other movie trailers where you can basically get the premise.~

Why are people complaining? Because that isn't what Mandarin really is. I mean that article says itself that it isn't even in continuity with the Ultimateverse. So you are saying that if they made Joker a ninja in TDK that it'll be perfectly fine? If they made Red Skull have a blue face? Or Loki played by a woman? I mean really, this is IronMans arch nemesis and you guys just want to over look the crap they did? To be honest, the twist wasn't even that great, it felt like a forced shock value than anything. I was more like "WTF" than "Oh s***, no way!"

I understand people liking the film but do not give Marvel a pass for the disgrace they did with the Mandarin character especially since he is the villain everyone has been looking forward to since the first film came out.
