WWE SmackDown Live preview (Apr. 30, 2019): With a target on her back

WWE SmackDown Live returns to us tonight (Apr. 30) from the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio. They continue to build to Money in the Bank which is in three weeks time.

The Headliner
Becky Lynch’s WrestleMania win was one for the ages. She won both Women’s titles in the main event of the show. Oh, and it was the first time the women ever main evented the biggest show of the year.

But now the hard work begins.

That hard work consists of defending both titles on each PPV. After all, it’s only fair that both Rawand SmackDown get to challenge for their respective titles. Defending both her titles each PPV is a tenuous position and one that can’t last forever.

Look at the Man’s line up for Money in the Bank. She has to face the newcomer Lacey Evans for the Raw Women’s title. Alone, that’s not too bad. Any given Sunday and all that, but Lynch would be an odds on favorite on that match if that was it.

But she also has to defend the SmackDown Women’s championship against Charlotte on the same show.

Facing Charlotte one on one is task enough for any woman. Sure, Becky has had the Queen’s number as of late, but that’s when she had to face her as her only challenge. At Money in the Bank, she’ll either be facing Charlotte knowing she has another match later, so she won’t fully focused. Or she’ll be facing Charlotte after she’s already had a match against Evans.

The odds she retains both titles are slim. One of those challengers could easily take it.

Storyline wise, I would expect Becky to hold onto both of her titles at least once to cement her as a top star. But after that, it’s not believable she’ll go many months without losing one of her belts.

Tonight, the Champ Champ will face Bayley in an exhibition match. The biggest goal for Lynch is to stay healthy before she has to face two women in the same night in a few weeks.

The Title Scene:
WWE didn’t listen to our suggestion last week and turned Kevin Owens heel that very night, with KO attacing WWE Champion Kofi Kingston. It was a bit quick, but still well executed. Kevin Owens is so damn good at being a villain and it gives Kofi something to fire up about after his huge title win. Tonight, Kofi will respond to Big O’s betrayal.

Finn Bálor and Andrade are 1-1 against each other. Both men want the rubber match for the Intercontinental title. Will management grant that?

The SmackDown tag title scene continues to be barren with word that Jeff Hardy, one half of the tag champions, is injured and the fact there aren’t any active teams. Hell, even Gallows and Anderson moved to Raw.

The Women’s tag team champions the IIconics continue to lose as Peyton Royce tries to figure out how much water is the right amout of water. Royce took a loss to Kairi Sane last week. Does that set up a match against Asuka and Sane for the titles? Or is that new tag team going to have to face Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville before getting a title match?

Other Stuff to Keep an Eye on:
- We are going to learn who is going to compete in both the men’s and women’s Money in the Bank matches. There aren’t any qualifying matches. Just a list.

- Will any other people move over to SmackDown this week? It seems like the Shake-up is a very fluid even this year. And they really could use a tag team or two.

SmackDown Live sails along towards Money in the Bank tonight. What will you be looking for when they stop by Columbus tonight?
