So it sounds like the paint on the red leather is bleeding fairly easily, is that right?

Is that worse when it’s wet?

The red leather is weird too. If you get it wet it will stay as a dark spot until it completely dries.

Pretty much the same way suede-nubuck does.

I don’t know about regular leather, but the Champs waterproof spray I used to use absolutely affected the color of the suede and nubuck shoes I used it on.

Made the colors lighter.

…haven’t used it since.

Never once had that problem with Champs spray. It was my go-to, and still would be if they hadn't discontinued it. Used it for every bit of 15 years without issue.

Curious if the red will bleed onto the white laces over time even without water. Like if you unlace them, will the bottoms that have been resting on the red have a red stain? Imagine we won’t know for a while.

Just saw L&Fs with both black and white laces in…..

Lets make the bleeding thing a big issue, maybe prices will go down lol….I know I know

Leaving these DS for a long time could be a disaster. Open the box a year later, bleeding everywhere…

it will bleed even without water because of humidity. They bled a little onto the white laces when I laced up the white laces and then after a few days unlaced them to put on black laces and the white laces has some faint red tint even tho I didn’t wear them yet and they were untouched with the white laces in.

Been about half a dozen solid wears. First of which was in some heavy rain. They're holding up well so far, little bit of runoff of red on the toebox and laces. Heel creasing is the worst offender so far. I use a shoehorn to put em on but I think driving is the reason for that.

that toebox rub-off from the lace panel happens on 1’s I wear a lot. With these red bleeding easier than other 1’s, that toebox is going to happen more frequently than normal. The issue isn’t the replacement $5 laces, the issue is if the bleeding is constant and you start getting discoloration on the red leather or even the white leather. Red leather might start looking like the red soles lol

With that said, these were purposely given the “vintage” treatment so the discoloration wouldn’t bother me as much.

I would love to see what the toe box will look on these a year from now.

…especially with consistent wear.

That's exactly how I felt. These joints already came looking older and crustier than my 94s, more of an excuse to beat them right out the box.
