Not saying they still don’t make descent basketball shoes. But from a design and hype…Jordan’s haven’t been interesting since the 14.

Because ding ding ding…he played in them. Old heads and a weird reverence keep the retro line going.

ever since they started on that DTC approach, they really stopped innovating. they also went all in on retros during COVID, which gave em a temporary boost at first, but didn't help them when people stated going out again. them alienating other retailers like FTL didn't help either

I’m not so sure it is about “innovation”. That was what the bankers on Wall Street thought. They’re clueless imo. I think Nike innovates more than any other brand even if they’ve scaled back due to a dtc approach. If the younger generation don’t connect to Nike in any way, I don’t think the innovation even matters. I think we’re at that crossroads where Nike might just continue to lose market share even if they innovate. This next year and the year after are going foreshadow what’s to come considering all the big releases and what happens with those.

I can almost see jordans flat lining in next 10 years and maybe they bring the price down. Quality would come down to. If they started slinging a few retros a year at 160 170. Might help some. I'd be cool with 4 or 5 new colors a year and maybe 1 or 2 OG. It's super OD how they drop so many anyways. Take it back to early 2000s mid 2000s. I remember a new colorway dropping was crazy special. Green beans....chambray 7s etc

i agree on that. just goes to show how tricky it is to market those without the man himself playing in em. especially when you compare em to other signatures like lukas and zions.

i mean, sure the 39s were inspired by MJ's cross step, but majority of these kids never seen him do it IRL

aside from the air max 1000 we haven't really heard of anything that's different from nike like the automatic lacing system or the joyride. regardless of how they were perceived back them, for me i can see that they're trying other things.

but i think that itself is just a symptom to the DTC problem. everything else took a back seat, innovation and marketing included. probably a big reason why Nike's not able to successfully connect to the younger generation now unlike other brands

We already knew it'd most likely be limited just by how much. Probably be a numbered release to xxx/5000 with shoe bags and nice box. They will seed 800-1000 out to celebs and nike/jordan athletes to stir up more hype then only release the remaining for all star week. Which means even less for normal people and even harder to get.

I don’t hate him, but I can see why others do. Dude was adamant we weren’t going to see anymore Jordan/Travis Scott shoes awhile back. And he’s also one of those dudes that gets info early, but never really reveals anything. Basically comes across as a guy who flaunts having info, enjoys telling people they’re wrong, and when someone else leaks the info, he’ll post something like “Yeah, now that it’s been revealed, these are TMFP!”

If all this is true, JB should be getting flamed for their decision on this release.

JB has to limit these because otherwise they’d be boxed into a corner. Already released countless variants of this shoe (from patent to flyknit to satin), and a GR 85 release would mean they can’t reel us back in for another pair in a few years with whatever gimmick they cook up next.
