Jordan Retro 1 '85 Black/Red Feb 14th 2025

I’m not falling for this manufactured hype. The last 1 that released that had any type of major buzz was the Lost and Founds and that was when ? 2022? Nobody is checking for 1’s like that except for old heads and enthusiasts. The price on these will come back to earth at some point. Not falling for Nikes tricks. I’d say resell will be in the 4-500 range for most sizes after the smoke clears.
Wasn’t there half a million pairs of the Lost and Founds?

If there’s only 10,000 pairs of the Breds, even 23,000, i dont think it matters that the 1 hype is dead.

The demand for these will far outweigh the supply.

There's lots of fake Kaws 4's out there. If a dude is wearing a beat pair to the gym they most likely fake.
I was definitely eyeballing them things like “really”???

My pair is ds and I might just say eff it this summer and wear them everyday for a year.

They gon fall apart eventually so the sooner the better...

Instead of shutting down these customizers just acquire them since they do way better work???
This thread is crazy.

People lauding research and passing the cost to the consumer.

It’s just laziness. If they were really trying to honor the history, they would practice QA.

Funny how these are created exactly like the OG’s, and the quality of the leather, looks exactly like the stiff hard leather, that they put on the retro OG highs of the 2013 releases. It’s crazy to analyze how the majority talked down on the 2013 1 high leathers, because it felt hard and stiff. Meanwhile, the 2013’s aged pretty good, if you beat them up. They literally look like an aged jacket, as far as how they turned out, after aging.

The weird part this discussion, is that everybody praised the 2011 banned quality of leather, which I like a lot, when they’re ds and unworn. But the 2011’s didn’t age well in my opinion, once you’ve beat them up for a few years. Because that quality of leather was so soft, that it produces way too many wrinkles all around the shoe for my taste. The quality of the 2001’s were kind of similar to the 2023’s, but not as stiff and hard, but they had more stiffness to them, as opposed to the 2011’s and 2016’s. Which is why I like the 2001’s a lot, just like the 2013’s.

With that being said, everybody always praises the 2011’s and 2016’s the most, because the leather use on those, were softer. But after seeing what they used on these 85 high retros, they actually used the right type of leather on the 2001’s and 2013’s. It’s just that everybody equats softer leather to better leather, which is a lot of people’s preference. 2016’s aged good, because two different types of leather were used on that retro. The red parts were softer in grain and somewhat tumbled, but the black parts saved the shoe from wrinkling so so much over time like the 2011’s. Because they used stiff hard leather on the black parts.

With that said, I know a lot of people think, what was first, is always better, which is not true in my opinion. I never liked the cut of the 85 highs OG’s. This is why I haven’t bought a pair of 85 retros. I never liked how the front of the shoe is cut, or how the midsole is cut in the back. The 85’s just always looked unfinished and weird perspective, as far as shape is concerned. 1 highs is a shoe that was actually improved in shape over time by Nike, starting with the 2001. They improved with widening the front, and by adding way more midsole on the white part in the back end of the shoe.

The current retro cuts are way better from a visual standpoint. But of course everybody’s gassed up over the 85’s, simply because it was the first release, even though they look like an unfinished version, in comparison to what we get today on 1 highs. I was never getting these, because I never liked the shape and cut of 85’s. It doesn’t matter if they made a million pairs of these.

Also, this will definitely bring demand back to the brand, especially once production starts getting lowered going forward. When gr’s starts getting cut in half, in how many pairs are available, the demand and want will come back to the brand. Then people will stop, all of Nike has fallen off talk. Because when a white/cement 4 and Aqua 8 don’t have a million pairs available, and only 200,000 to 400,000 pairs. Then people will go back to respecting the brand like they once did. Retros will go back to being status symbols, like how they were from the beginning.

The company had no choice but to do that, because people only respect limited shoe releases nowadays, so 200,000 to 400,000 is the sweet spot. For the retros to still sell out, but not sit past a day or two. We definitely won’t be seeing new retros everywhere and anywhere, after mid 2025, especially in this economy.

There’s something to be said about the stiff and soft leather and what that means for quality, but I would not equate the stiff leather on 85s in general (and I’m sure the ones coming out next week fall into this as well) and the plasticy pleather from the 2013 era. It wasn’t the worst leather weve seen on 1s. The banned from the DMPs probably get that honor, but the 13s weren’t leaps and bounds better. They were the general GR leather used at the time. I remember getting the 2013s and comparing them to the banned high straps and the high straps felt like a better quality shoe.

They are acquired. Nike paid them $4 a hour for 12 hour days. Once the shoe order is ,”complete they put them on standby and stop paying them until close to the next release…..they just sit in the factory with endless materials waiting to get a call to work for $4 an hour……
