**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

Boy yall throw cheap around like yall got the money to pay it...

No **** we don’t have the money. We’re fans, not owners..
Idk why you acting like the money would be coming out of your bank account. It’s not your money either.

This team rakes in multi-millions. Yes I will complain about the billionaires not spending money to bring back a good player.

Preach.

Like I said, I understand the luxury tax implications. That doesn’t mean I have to agree with it. We’re talking about a billion dollar franchise. I know the pandemic didn’t hurt their pockets that badly.

WOOOOOOOW sounds like they 75% being cheap

25% got something in play.

Soo can they announce anything with dennis before the 6th?

I mean if you have bron and ad its your responsibility as an owner to make sure they are in the best possible position to win.

this is why you sign tv deals andwhy fans support your franchise by buying the silliest **** out there.

joe lacob eats 30 million cap hits for breakfast

these last few moves by the lakers are head scratchers

Wonder what happens with Drummond. I hate him but I know Rob and Vogel still have hard ons for him I’m sure. They did promise him 30 mins a game lol

Let him walk he got his bread
Lakers don’t feel he’s needed to win another chip and I agree he’s not a 9M+ a year player.
And he’s Def not worth paying 20M in taxes over.

I love Alex Ginobili BUT...

I've already moved on. The Carushow is over.

Rob is not done, which means we are not done popping boners in what has been a stellar Laker offseason thus far.

It's clear: this is a 2-3 year window

Go Lakers!!

Lebron gonna get Dwight easy dunks and Ellington open looks. Not expecting much from Old *** Ariza

hoping for another move. In aggregate our shooting got worse so far

It's actually amazing, I haven't seen one Laker fan mad at Caruso for taking the money. They're all mad at the Lakers org for letting him walk. That's a first.

Definitely this!!

thought if he stayed it be a 2+1 deal, and he’d be traded after the second one after picking up his PO/TO

How Trevor Ariza and Wayne Ellington fit with Lakers in their second stints

The Los Angeles Lakers agreed to one-year deals with wings Trevor Ariza and Wayne Ellington on Monday.

Ariza averaged 9.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steals to go along with 35.0 percent 3-point shooting in Miami last season. Ellington averaged 9.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists to go along with 42.2 percent 3-point shooting in Detroit last season.

How they fit: Ariza, a former Lakers player who was part of the 2008-09 championship team, is a 3-and-D wing who trends more toward the defensive end of the spectrum. At 36, Ariza is no longer the high-flyer or elite athlete that he was in Los Angeles over a decade ago. But he can defend either forward position, knock down 3s at a league-average clip and finish in transition. He should bolster the Lakers’ second unit as the backup power forward.

Ellington, also a former Lakers player, is an elite 3-point shooter who shot 42.2 percent from beyond the arc in Detroit last season. He’s a below-average defender, but given the gravity and off-ball movement he provides, he fits in nicely with a team desperate for shooting. Whether he starts at shooting guard will depend on what the Lakers do in the rest of free agency, including with their own free agents, most notably Talen Horton-Tucker (restricted) and Wesley Matthews.

2021-22 impact: The Lakers finally have two wings on the roster and much-improved shooting around their new big three of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. Assuming they re-sign Horton-Tucker and Matthews, the Lakers’ wing rotation is close to set, with a decent mix of 3-point shooting and perimeter defense. Ariza and Ellington suit the Lakers’ win-now approach for next season.

My initial reaction: I like both moves. I had both players high on my list of targets for the taxpayer midlevel exception and veteran’s minimum. I think they complement each other well — Ariza is more of a defender; Ellington is a shooting specialist. Ideally, neither player should start. The Lakers still have their work cut out for them in free agency, especially after losing Alex Caruso to Chicago. But I think with what was available, this is about as good as it realistically gets from a fit perspective for the Lakers.

What’s next? The Lakers need to address the futures of their own free agents, most notably Horton-Tucker, Dennis Schröder (for sign-and-trade purposes) and Matthews. Horton-Tucker is now irreplaceable — the Lakers need to do whatever it takes to retain him. Matthews’ 3-and-D skill set also is important, especially with Caruso and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope gone. Schröder’s market has dried up, making him a prime candidate for a sign-and-trade, which could net the Lakers a rotation player or two.
