**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

I mean, the last time AD was a PF with McGee at the 5, we won a championship.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Exactly. I won't laugh at the Lakers for signing him because McGee is the perfect signing for the 14th roster spot for the vet minimum.

Instead, I'll be laughing at those Lakers fans who would be against signing him because they think Javale wouldn't be able to impact AD (and this team) even at his old age of 50 LOL

Pelinka has likened Action Jaxson to Dwight. I guess the only other Big left to sign is the real Javale so we can go ahead and lock up AD's other big bodyguard so we can win #18 😂

javale played zero minutes in the 2020 finals

ZERO

you know the denver nuggets that team with all those tasty impact bigs?

in the 2020 nba western conference finals against the nuggets javalee mcgee played 7 minutes a game in that series and averaged more fouls than points

but ill let you celebrate the idea of the lakers signing him

and thinking jaxson hayes is anything close to washed dwight howard is just deplorable

I don't care if Javale didn't play minutes in the Finals.

the point is: The damn Lakers probably don't make it all the way to the Finals if they had scrubs like your boys Thomas Bryant and Damian Jones in 2020 instead of Javale and Dwight.

You still dont get it do you.

NOW TELL ME HOW DWIGHT EFFN HOWARD FARED AGAINST JOKIC IN THE 2020 WCF LOL. Exactly.

2-BIG BODYGUARDS HELPING AD IS TOO BIG FOR OPPONENTS BUT YOU STILL DONT GET IT, SADLY

Now put your damn money where your mouth is

$300 says Jaxson Hayes starts multiple games this year. I bet you or anyone on this thread won't take the bet cause you already know the Lakers are going to go 2-Big this season and all you Smurf lineup lovers who love seeing small ball teams jack up 50 threes a game is exactly what you want to see the Lakers become lmao

No it'll just happen because AD won't play 82 games

He's not good, he's just all they have at backup. He'll make some plays that will be exciting but be a net negative player and never close out games when the team is at full strength

Jaxson will play 16-20 min in the Dwight-Javale role. And he will start and play alongside Davis. Not just when AD is hurt

You'll see

You want to bet? Dwight Howard, only put up something like 6 and 6 every night. But everybody knows his impact in 2020.

Are you saying 2020 Dwight sucked?

He was a big body that beat up bigger bigs and fouled like crazy.

Hayes is not beating anyone up or slowing anyone down. Raw numbers might match up but impact sure as hell won’t.

Why are you so obsessed with betting on Hayes

If you think all Dwight did in the 2019-20 regular season and playoffs was beat up bigger bigs and foul like crazy, then I'm sorry man but you gotta go back and re-watch all the games and pay much closer attention to what he brought to the table and what Jones, Bryant, and Jordan didnt. And I'll tell you it's a whole heck of a lot more than putting a body on someone LOL

EYE'm that confident in Hayes being an impact big for this team and everyone else clearly isn't. Yet nobody wants to bet me. Interesting isn't it?

EYE don’t know why this topic gets brought up 3-4X every week but here we are.

Again.
Lakers still clearly on the hunt for another big man for that 14th spot....has been the topic.

And aside from the All-Star Austin Reaves balling in the world cup, the Lakers' intention to bring back the 2-Big lineup in order to preserve AD's fragile body and minimize his wear n tear has been another noteworthy topic the last month or so.

Season starts in October.

Oh come on..

AD's injuries have been mostly foot, ankle, knee type stuff. Random stuff like guys rolling into one of his knees or him jumping in the air and landing on someone's foot... basically the type of injuries that have the same likelihood of happening regardless of if he's matched up against Embiid, Joker, Porzingis, Al Horford, etc.

Versatility is a good thing to have... and I don't think anyone here is saying they should NEVER play AD next to another center. There are pros and cons to just about every lineup combination, I'd play a bigger combination at times because AD and Lebron don't always want to rebound... but they're going to sacrifice offense when they go that route.

Bigger does not necessarily always mean better. You need skill and the ability to play both ends of the floor... Lakers were the smaller team against the Nuggets, but what also hurt them as much if not more is that there were too many specialists in the rotation... all offense and no defense (Rui) or all defense no offense (Dennis, Vando) or worst NO offense and NO defense (DLo). Hard to win that way because you put too much pressure on the others to make up for those guys shortcomings.

Just because AD's past injuries came off "random stuff" doesn't excuse the fact he has more wear n tear on that body, which is clearly why Pelinka wants to be more versatile and create more matchup advantages by going 2-Bigs and moving AD to PF for more stretches in games. With another big on the floor with him, AD becomes even more impactful in and out of the paint as a help defender.

We all know there's been a cumulative effect on AD's body over the years and we all know he's not built to bang, so why make it even harder for him as he gets older?

Good points on the Lakers' lack of two-way guards/forwards, which made it even harder for them to compete vs DEN, a solid all-around team.

But again, if AD doesn't have to guard Jokic full time and instead has another solid 7-footer alongside him to bother Jokic, it then allows AD to slide to the 4 and create a mismatch advantage against MPJ or AG, a matchup AD would win 10x outta 10. NTM, Jokic now has to worry about two 7-footers in the paint instead of one. Rebounding Advantage: Lakers.

Ultimately, you're proving my point. Why make it even harder on AD by having him be the center 99% of the time and the next biggest guy next to him is 6'8" Rui Hachimura? How they gonna compete against the elite teams who all have plenty of size and length?

Lakers need to add more capable big men so they can be, like you said, more versatile against any opponent. Therefore in the Lakers' case, bigger IS better because the additions of two-way players Prince and Vincent surely isn't enough to bring the same kind of impact Playoff Rondo, KCP, Caruso, DGreen, Kuzma and Kieff brought to that 2020 title team. Then you add impact bigs like Dwight and Javale to protect that paint and we wonder why AD looked like a bonafide MVP candidate in the playoffs that year.

Ntm, Big starting frontcourts always been the Lakers' championship formula.
