**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

Not to let AD and Bron off the hook tonight… were they interested in playing at all?

Yeah but outside of DLo who else were they going to put in for offense tonight? And if you started him, where were you going to get an offensive spark off the bench?

Ham left the team little room for lineup changes.

He probably panicked too soon moving AR to the 6th man role without a fix as to who plays the 2 in the starting lineup. Cam wasn’t the right answer. (Even if there was no good answers, doesn’t mean a change is always needed).

Then he likely panicked too quick again to move DLo to the bench, which negated his reasoning of moving Austin to the bench by not switching Austin in. And then made a defensive lineup that wasn’t an all-time type lineup that could justify sitting your 3rd and 4th best player in the starting roles.

Then panicked again to reverse course and put AR back in the starting lineup. Without fully knowing how all the rotations and minutes would go.

All the while, TP and Cam get starter minutes without ever being starter level players.

Now unless a trade is made, you can’t really make changes to the starting lineup even if there’s guys that in combination right now could lessen slow offensive starts even if there was drop off in defense.

It isn’t the only reason they are 8 games back of first. But between lineup Jenga. Injuries. Play. And asking guys to be in roles they couldn’t possibly fulfill. You’re probably looking at your reasons.

😂 lineups.

Injuries are probably the biggest reason why the lineups change so much…Bron, AD and Prince are going to start every game. The hate on TP is funny… he’s statistically the best 3pt shooter on the team, a capable ball mover and although I don’t feel great about him guarding the opponents #1 wing option on defense he’s probably one of the best options on this particular roster… basically he’s a role player that knows his role and can play off of Lebron and AD.

Said enough about AR last night… liability on defense, shot hunting on offense, and he’s been up and down on that end all season. If you want to play that way, do that on the bench and for 28-30 minutes a night. And DLo… the team is better when he’s playing well because they need his shooting/offense. But going back to what he said on his own podcast, there’s a way that he prefers to play and that’s not happening while LeBron is dominating the ball… and if he’s not happy being the catch and shoot guy then let him do him in those bench units as well.

The rest of the bench… it’s just been hard to rely on guys who’ve been in and out due to injuries. Could’ve really used Wood and Cam last night for example.

The hate toward TP isn’t about TP. It’s trying to pigeon hole him into a role he’s not suited for.

While everyone is talking about we need LaVine and Murray. How about not having a guy who is great in a bench role and carved out his stay in that role have such a 180 type role, and making a move to move guys where they are optimized.

If we can’t admit that, it doesn’t matter who is being traded or what for.
20-24 minutes in the bench unit. Playing against bench units and what are great intangibles translate better to meaningful results.

Okay so who else should be slotted into that spot?

I’m all ears

It’s why I said that the move shouldn’t be for a Lavine or Murray it should be for a 3/4 who actually plays that role that is being asked of TP.
(That move also takes DLo and AR out of the equation for trades because they need to be replaced and there isn’t anybody to effectively do it currently on the roster).
I’ve been pretty consistent on it all season.

Got it.

So the problem is basically both guard positions and the SF position.

Easy fix

not really.

Between DLo/AR/Max/Mays because Mays was brought into be the break glass in case of emergency PG. if they don’t trade Gabe, and if Gabe isn’t Gabrick NunnDengVincent then you got enough really quality guard play. You have a pretty good guard rotation.

Concern is who takes on the lion share of the responsibility for Forwards outside of LeBron. A move includes Rui as much as I like what Rui brings. Just a salary number thing more than anything.
And where Vando’s injury hurts too because there wasn’t or hasn’t been much looks into how it would work running back the 2nd half of the year lineup. And you could then really panic if need be.

But that and a capable backup big.

DLo / Max / ??? / Bron / AD

Bench:
Scorer - AR
Steadying guard - Vincent (I guess)
Shooter - Prince
Perimeter Defense and Pace - Vando
Tweener Big - Wood
Backup Center - ?? (Biyombo)
Break Glass in case of Emergency Guard - Mays

Putting even more pressure on the mediocre offense.

Nope.

A collection of overlapping skill sets… mostly (streaky) jump shooting guards, that don’t get into the paint, lack foot speed and athleticism, and poor defenders…although I think Gabe at least tries. So, if that’s your thing I guess but I’m not calling that a good group bro, sorry.
