Team will be solid

Especially if AD and LJ can have another good season and be healthy like they were last.

We dropped SO MANY winnable games the first half of last year because Darvin was toiling with his meaningless lineups.

Establish the lineups and roles EARLY and let the guys play it out.

There wasn’t much complaining about the roster last season… but now it seems like the majority of people want to get rid of almost everyone not named LeBron or AD.

I get the frustration that people have about the lack of activity this offseason, but I would also think that if you thought that this team was being held back that you’d at least want to see what it looks like without guy you felt was the problem.

I’m curious about the roster as is … the issue last season was that it was either a good offensive team, or a decent defensive team but never both at the same time because of the personnel. So will JJ be able to find a way to balance things that make sense? For example, against a bigger team like Minnesota or Denver can he make a lineup of DLo or Austin, Christie, Bron, AD, Hayes work? And if that’s something he can do then it makes guys like Rui or Vando expendable…

I said last season that the roster wasn’t THAT good… too many specialists (DLo, Rui, Vando) and Max wasn’t ready. But I’m also willing to give them another chance (minus DLo of course) to see what they can do under new direction.

New coach or not, this team still needs a starting caliber Big to help AD otherwise they ain’t winning a championship, especially if they run it back

To make it crystal clear, Ham was the MAIN problem last year simply because he ain’t too intelligent and savvy enough of a coach, but even if Phil Jackson or Spoelstra were the coach in 2023, last year’s team still wouldn’t have won it all because as we saw in the playoffs, DEN outmuscled, outsized, and outplayed the Lakers in all aspects especially inside the paint. And MIN, DAL, and BOS would’ve done the same to LA

to be fair the only guy that we universally want to get rid of is dangelo russell

Nuggets series. DLo & AR lineups

DLo-AR-Rui-Bron-AD. +6.1 (5 games, 96 minutes)
DLo-AR-TP-Bron-AD +29.6 (3 games, 13 minutes)
DLo-AR-Gabe-Bron-AD +11.1 (1 games, 5 minutes)
DLo-AR-TP-Rui-AD +57.1 (1 game, 4 minutes)
DLo-AR-Gabe-TP-AD -56.7 (1 game, 3 minutes)
DLo-AR-TP-Bron-Rui -100 (1 game, 1 minute)

DLo & AR had the best 2 man of the 5 starters at +8.0 in the playoffs.

If you go through the whole lineups, most of the really bad net ratings have poor additions.
For example AR-Gabe-Rui-Bron-AD was a -55.4 (5 games, 11 minutes) DLo in for Gabe as seen was a +6.1 in 96 minutes
DLo-Dinwiddie-Prince-Bron-AD -68.1 (3 games, 9 minutes) AR in for Dinwiddie it was +29.6 in 13 minutes

Does Max playing switch a Game 1 loss to a win where it was powered by a lineup where Dinwiddie was in for DLo, and a lineup where Dinwiddie was in for Reaves, And a lineup where Gabe was the 3 and Prince was the 4? I think it has some impact honestly.

Game 2 would Max playing instead of a lineup where Gabe played with the starters for DLo, Dinwiddie with the starters for DLo, and a Din/TP/Rui 2-4 with DLo make a difference? I think it has some impact.

Max is super young. But Ham screwing around with him all year, and not getting him game reps when he looks serviceable at worst, could have had a swinging impact on the series.

Play more Max with DLo & AR.

Wouldn't mind Dinwiddie back if they can maneuver it, but I think Lonnie Walker would be a better fit. Backcourt needs a boost athletically and a guard that doesn't need a screen to get off a shot.

I wouldn't bring back Dinwiddie. But I would play Max a ton with DLo & AR, and I think it has some impact.

DSJ has a decent archetype on defense (at least last year) and has bounce.

If you bring Dinwiddie back, need to drop Gabe.

I think you need to drop Gabe regardless to make sure Max plays a ton, but that is just me.

The bones are there. If Bruce Brown made like $5mil less he'd probably be in LA already for Gabe/JHS/Wood/Max Lewis and a 1st.
And then you'd have Bruce/Vando/Christie to handle perimeter defense with Bron/DLo/AR facilitating. But $23mil is a **** ton for him regardless of his pedigree because you'd be trading a starter plus 2 bench guys to make it happen + a pick.
From there still that big short, but shrugs

Wasn't a pro DLo post. Wasn't a pro AR post.

It was a they ran some really ****** lineups against a team that was all about acute execution, and didn't play a guy who was really good for them during the season (Max).

Going forward though, that backcourt tandem does and could work. If they could find a bridge at the 3 that can share time with Vando. Will they find it? I don't know. But would be nice to have.

I was just joking bro...honestly it was good information but you know the D.lo stuff can get old sometimes.

I can't be optimistic?

Hell it's easy to just point at one thing.

Diving deep into some info tells a different tale about DLo, about DLo & AR, about AR lineups, about sneaking minutes with fundamentally built lineups, about a lot of the core principles of the team.

December like April showed something different about the team than what it is. If you don't run stupid lineups that you know are not good, you're probably a really good team, and maybe 1-2 things fall different.

My biggest concern
Problem is the back 4 of the roster is atrocious (Bronny, Max Lewis, JHS, Cam).. Which is whatever.
But 8-11 isn't really good (Gabe, Hayes, Wood. Who knows with Knecht yet, but he looks like a solid contributor potentially).

They either needed to push DLo-AR-Rui-Vando- Max back 1 spot in terms of importance of 3-7 to 4-8
Or raised the floor of the 4 guys behind them in the 8-11 spots.
And they didn't do either.

Mans putting lineup plus minus like we didn't watch with our own eyes see D'Lo play like straight garbage.

We can do this today, tomorrow, next week, and forever.

That wasn't plus/minus. It was net rating.

Positive net lineup ratings is what equals winning basketball games.
