**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

I hate articles like that.
Yes, as a general rule in basketball, if you can make a lot of shots after a few misses, you'll do all right.
Every telecast it happens. Guy starts off 0-5 hits a layup "that's a big bucket there that can change everything you know sometimes with these players they just need to see the ball go in to get in rhythm." Tatum then finishes the night 4/17

Pretty sure it didn’t take 50 games to decide on the starting lineup lmao it just wasn’t the lineup that “some people” wanted.

But I’m not here to argue about starting lineups because I don’t care about that at all.

Just finished listening to JJ’s interview…

Sounds like a lot of coach-speak but a couple of things I found interesting:

- Doesn’t feel like this team has a depth issue
- Young guys look good and will compete for rotation spots (mentioned Dalton specifically)
- Tough decisions will need to be made about the rotation
- Expectations are to establish a culture, be in the playoffs and compete (2/3 which have already been done last season)

This is an often overlooked key element of a successful team, and I think I've said this in here before. Establishing a culture/identity is so crucial. Like when you look at the schedule one night, you see that you're playing a bruising team, then the next night is a team that shoots 3 after 3 after 3, then the next night is a team that runs all night.
Teams look at us and have no idea who they're playing; I mean, unless dysfunctional is an identity. 😬

I like seeing that establishing a culture/ identity is a focus. Like we really are at ground level. 😬

I agree with what you’re saying… BUT I would add that there has to be alignment with the GM and coach on style of play/system and the type of players that fit the mold. Everything really changed after the RW trade and not to relive the past but there hasn’t really been an alignment since. I THINK that Ham at least had a defensive minded approach but doesn’t matter if 80% of the guys on the roster can’t guard a chair. So far JJ has at least said all the right talking points… we’re going to do X,Y,Z on offense but wake me up when he has an answer to any of the defensive issues that last year’s team had to overcome.

I’m not really all that much worried about what this team will be doing on offense… please tell me the plan to get stops other than “Save us AD”.

It'll be 3 games and people be clamoring for a different starting lineup, diff 6 man, move this guy, swap that guy blah blah blah and after 50+ games it'll switch back to exact same lineup as opening night and we'll see 3+ pages of "Finally!!!!!"

Save this in your quotes for 2026 when the next coach gets hired.

Oh absolutely. Not to speak for you but I take your point as more of 'including', not 'but.'
"We need to establish an identity, but GM & coach..."
Nah.
I take your point more as "We need to establish an identity, including GM and coach..."
Therein lies a crucial problem, though. 😬

Crazy that a week from Friday is the first preseason game...

I think this is the first time in a while that I have no excitement for a Lakers season.

Zero expectations.

Expectations is high 40 wins/ low 50s if they stay healthy.

At some point look for a backup Center without committing the top 6 in the rotation.
And if a current All-Star caliber player becomes available, take a swing I guess.

I expect complainers to complain and mention former players and coaches every day like any of that matters in the 2024-25 season.
