simple just because they don't define you doesn't mean they aren't important....I make a decent amount of money, and I even went independent to make more money, but because I make more money and do well it doesn't define who I am as a person....am I saying making money isn't important....no. It just the be all to end all as what makes me me.I need Lebron stans to answer this question.
How come Lebron tells Jordan and the media that rings don't define a player but hes the one who took less money to build a super team so he can get as many rings as possible? hmm.
How many times do I have to say that I'm not a Kobe fan? Not all Lebron haters are Kobe fans.but the same can be said about kobe...seeing that any appreciation thread made as of lately, outside of the stupid and god awful and unwarranted Jeremy lin thread, they some how turn into a kobe appreciation/comparison to said player...ie this thread, the lbj thread, the heats season thread, the finals thread....so on and so forth.I never said that, I have no problem with a Kobe hate thread. This thread has been around for years, I'm mainly referring to threads like the "Wade Appreciation" or "Lebron Overcoming Adversity" ones that appear once the Heat win the Finals. As if the NBA thread and the Heat thread don't have enough praise for the guys already, let's make two more threads just in case.
Doesn't kobe get enough praise already without turning any other appreciation of a player thread into a kobe is better then this/that person...kobe is this, kobe is my future baby daddy, kobe is my mancrush, etc...
What relevance is stating that shaq is cheating, pertinent to his rape charge? It had absolutely nothing to do with it and totally irrelevant. That be like if I was caught up in iuno a dui charge, and I voluntarily offered police some info like.. "oh the guy in the apartment next to me sells weed" Like what does one even have to do with the other. That's the worst kinda of snitching.I think you have a poor understanding of the term snitching
Never said you was, I was just making a factual statement, that pretty much any appreciation thread turns into a kobe appreciation slash he is better then such and such player. How many times do I have to say that I'm not a Kobe fan? Not all Lebron haters are Kobe fans.
i dont think you understand, anyone who hates lebron must be a kobe fan and any one who is a kobe fan is a true lakers fan. so if a pacers fan is mad that the heat beat them and calls lebron a #%$#@, you're allowed to assume that hes actually a lakers fan and say something along the lines of "LOL look at all these (when really it was just one person) lakers fans crying (not actually lakers fans that are mad) just because lebron is better than kobe (dont forget to bring up kobe even though no one else has mentioned his name)"How many times do I have to say that I'm not a Kobe fan? since you follow every so called "laker fan's" kobe vs lebron related post anyways why dont you start making a listBut it's NOT just one person. There is a strong number of Kobe AND Lakers fans in this thread.
I would quote names, sigs, and avys, but ain't nobody go time for that.

Same way LeBron is saying rings isn't the be all to define who he is as a player, and his talent and skillset.
Dudes really trying to reach. If rings are the be all to end all Russell>all and it isn't even close by anyone.
I hope all the Lebron and Kobe Stans in here one day meet their idol in person and he acts like a complete tool to you.
How many times do I have to say that I'm not a Kobe fan? Not all Lebron haters are Kobe fans.
you dont have to be a kobe fan to defend kobe, im a lakers/kobe fan and dont even like lebron that much but i have defended bron in multiple threads. you dont need to be a fan of the player to find hate and slander towards that player annoyingSeriously hope you ain't one of them "fake non kobe fans" cause we definitely have seen a TON of those here on Niketalk claiming they aren't Kobe fans yet you see them defend him in EVERY thread. How many times do I have to say that I'm not a Kobe fan? I could maybe possibly see if they were connected to a crime and dude did it on some getting a reduce sentence on some he was an accomplice. But this isn't the case. Dude just on some random out the blue went public about someone else household. I mean they weren't even the best of buds, Matter fact it was because some other utch made ish he did, Going to Gray of NBC in a interview and saying that shaq was fat, lazy and pretty much washed up then turned around and try to lie about what he said.
I mean I respect him as a player and all, but from wifing up a video vixen jumpoff, dry snitching, and all the other itch made things he has done in life, I mean he isn't someone if wasn't famous and just a reg cat I would even approach let alone be friends with and kick it.
Kobe made that statement about Shaq paying off chicks that tried to extort him, which is what Kobe felt the accuser was trying to do to him. Thats the correlation
And he has every right to believe that. Because if it did again Russell>all and it isn't even close. And if rings mean the more impressive your career is then again Russell>all and it isn't even close. Stockton is regarded as the goat pg...So if another pg with atleast one ring who was a key player in getting a ring means he better then Stockton ala a Isiah Thomas....Or better yet Tony ParkerNo he said ring doesn't define a player CAREER. He wasn't talking about skill set or talent. We know his talents.
So again ring does define a player career if it is indeed important like you said. So in a sense, the more rings a player win the more impressive his career would be.
Why does he need to win multiple rings if he said it doesn't define a player career? maybe because he's a hypocrite?
And don't bring up role players that have multiple rings. I'm talking about players who win rings as significant contributor. Not some Derick Fisher or Robert horry kind of rings.
lol said rings doesn't define a player career but dude can't wait to win 6 or 7 rings. Recently he also said that he want to be one of the greatest to ever do it and a second ring would mean a lot to him. So compare to his statement earlier about ring. We can agree that he's a big hypocrite.
i never understood why people (not talking about you) think trying to be equal to or better than MJ is a bad thing, that chasing for that 6th and 7th ring is a bad thing. i think that every player should aspire to be the best player in the world and that those few that are talented enough to get there (kobe, lebron, KDs of the world) should do all that they can to be more successful than mj. we're not even talking about his scoring titles or anything, we're talking about winning championships. does it matter that kobe uses mj's 6 rings as motivation to work on his game every summer and do whatever he can to put the lakers in the hunt each year? as a fan of the lakers and as a fan of basketball i would rather see kobe work his *** off so that we have a better chance of winning a title than have a superstar like dirk that shows up to training camp out of shape just because he has already won a ring. sure ring counts dont mean everything but it should be the #1 priority for an active player that is trying to build a legacyAnd he has every right to believe that. So by your accounts Tony Parker>Stockton, Isiah, Gary Payton, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash so on and so forth. Or maybe your saying Tony Parker was some role player....
Maybe your saying Pau Gasol> Karl Malone, Barkley etc...or maybe Pau Gasol was just some random role player I guess. Even though in one of the championships he was arguably the mvp.
Shaq himself said and many agree that in terms of skill and just overall better player..Akeem, Wilt were better players. But let me guess they were just role player too?
Hell every player wants to win rings, but unlike Kobe he isn't playing solely to get enough rings as some measure stick to say this will make me better then MJ. Kobe sole purpose and only reason for playing is to get 6/7 rings....as if well atleast in his mind, and to a few foolish ppl will somehow make it Kobe>MJ. Which end of the day even if he gets 7 rings he still wouldn't have been the better player then Mj.
And him having 6/7 rings would be viewed the same way as how you look at Russell with his 11/13 rings...Yea he has more rings but MJ still is goat. The same way you see it for Russell ppl in large will see it for Kobe.
LeBron knows this so he is just out to be the best player he can be and, unlike Kobe, make his own mark in the game, not try to one up MJ, in hopes that will make him viewed as the GOAT.
And before you say it...Kobe is so fixated on one upping MJ that he even changed his number to one up of MJ, And is playing through injuries such as a bad hand, knees etc..all in a pursuit to one up MJ.
But end of the day, he still based on what he has done as a player, his talents and skillset, hasn't been nor will be better then MJ. Dude is just chasing a impossible goal.
No it isn't wrong...but him getting 7 rings wont make him a goat...same way mj getting 6 rings didn't make him goat status is my point. Yea you should try to be the best overall player you can be.... Yes you should strive and want to win chips....But thinking some magic set of mvps/titles will get you to goat status...imo makes no sense.i never understood why people (not talking about you) think trying to be equal to or better than MJ is a bad thing, that chasing for that 6th and 7th ring is a bad thing. i think that every player should aspire to be the best player in the world and that those few that are talented enough to get there (kobe, lebron, KDs of the world) should do all that they can to be more successful than mj. we're not even talking about his scoring titles or anything, we're talking about winning championships. does it matter that kobe uses mj's 6 rings as motivation to work on his game every summer and do whatever he can to put the lakers in the hunt each year? as a fan of the lakers and as a fan of basketball i would rather see kobe work his *** off so that we have a better chance of winning a title than have a superstar like dirk that shows up to training camp out of shape just because he has already won a ring. sure ring counts dont mean everything but it should be the #1 priority for an active player that is trying to build a legacy

yeah i agree that even if he gets 7 jordan will still be considered the better basketball player. what im saying is one one hand we have someone like MJ who may or may not have had a set goal of x amount of points and x amount of chips, on the other hand we have kobe who says i want more rings than MJ. what im saying is, why is kobe's way of thinking considered a bad thing? i can see your point if it was scoring titles or something where kobe is out there not passing, not playing d and just scoring as much as he can while costing his team wins, but we're talking about championships here. you say that he should have developed his game rather than shooting for these numbers, but honestly what has kobe NOT done in terms of developing his game? in my opinion, skill wise and how he has taken care of his body over the years, kobe maximized his talent and potential and thats all that you can ask for in a player. just wondering, what aspects of his game would be better/how would he be more successful if he didnt care about these number goals? No it isn't wrong...but him getting 7 rings wont make him a goat...same way mj getting 6 rings didn't make him goat status is my point. I mean I seriously doubt MJ, went about and said well if I score x amount of points, get this amount of mvps/titles etc...this will make me a goat. And lets be honest, kobe it seems deep down..and many of his fans believe this.
Ppl were saying MJ was goat status waaaaaaaay before the 6 rings and 6 mvps. Kobe has 5 and no one is considering him goat...they wont if he get 6, they wont if he get 7. My point is instead of shooting for so call numbers etc...he should have developed his game to a point he would be considered goat, instead of seeking out a certain number of rings and individual accomplishments....And I think that was the point LeBron was making.
The thing that made MJ goat status...was not only the individual accomplishments and rings...(again ppl were calling him/hailing him goat even in his 2nd championship) it was the fact that for a significant amount of time in the league, Mj was the most dominant, best overall player in the league.
Kobe may get the first part...but its too late for him to accomplish the latter....He imo is one of the, if not the most dominant/prolific scorers of all time, on the offensive end...I don't think no one has had the skillset and arsenal Kobe has. But most dominant/overall player...he at best may have accomplished this and its arguable a very short stint in his career.
Had his overall game....matched his strive for numbers...conversation would be different. But its not. Even if he gets 7 rings...he at best will be one of the, if not the greatest individual scorer of all time, who at certain periods of his career was one of the best one on one defenders of all time...with 7 rings. And he as well as Kobe stans have to accept this.
