[size=+1]Fast facts[/size]

* The teams in the Gridiron Challenge will be playing on new Field Turf, which was part of a $1.3 million upgrade to Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium.

* Although the rest of the state is playing kick off classics (games don't count), Florida teams playing in this weekend's games count as a regular season game.

* Dallas Skyline, lost 11 D-I players from last year's team and return six starters.

* Skyline will play another Florida team at home next week, St. Thomas Aquinas. s team and return six starters.

* Skyline is one of the largest high schools in the country, with over 4,500 students.

* According to 5ATexasFootball.com, Skyline will be rebuilding most of its offense, and that will put pressure on the defense to carry the team early while the offense gains its footing.

* Size will be a concern for Glades Central. Skyline's o-line/d-lines are massive. Head coach Jessie Hester told the Palm Beach Post, "We're not the biggest team you'll see, so we could have a problem stopping the run," said Hester. "Offensively, we tend to be able to match up with anyone."

* Will the visitors from Dallas keep up with GC's speed?

You sure?

People are reporting they have now missed 2 days straight

The only day of practice these two probably missed was Tuesday. Easley and Powell was at both on Monday and Wednesday but no one will say about the day in between.

Possible infractions dealing with agents and now this? Paul Dee has to be one of the happiest people in the world right now. If everything people have been speculating turns out to be true he's going to hammer UNC and enjoy every moment at the thought of bringing Butch to his knees.

Just another reason why Urban>your school's coach

GAINESVILLE -- Thanks to our fearless student correspondent (the event was closed to media), here are some of the highlights of Urban Meyer's town-hall-style meeting with 500 UF students on Wednesday night inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium's Touchdown Terrace. (Bull Gator hangout.)

So, first things first. Meyer seems to have taken a shot at the 'Canes when he said this: "We want this to be one place that everybody wants to be. We don't want to be like some of the schools in the state where half the stadium is empty..."

Oh, snap!

The best part of the town-hall meeting was when Meyer explained the spread offense to the students (and clowned one hapless student in the process!)

MEYER: "There are some misunderstandings about the spread. The spread offense is a run-first, pound-you offense. Our spread. And what we try to do is take advantage of mismatches. You think of some of the great players we've had here over the past four or five years and I can name Percy Harvin and Aaron Hernandez are probably the perfect spread-offense players. That's because they're match-up nightmares for the defense.

Does that make sense to you. This is real football stuff, now. This isn't what you see on TV. [LAUGHS]

So, take a guy like Aaron Hernandez who very fast, a great receiver but is also big and can block. You're a defensive coach, who do you put on him?

[MEYER RAISING HIS VOICE]

Yeah, you, answer. Go! Yeah! [LAUGHS FROM STUDENTS]

Yeah, you in glasses. The confused guy right here. Go. [LAUGHS ALL AROUND]

[MEYER NOW NEARLY YELLING]

Who do you put on him? He's big, he's 250 pounds and he runs a 4.5. Go!

CONFUSED GUY: [INAUDIBLE]

MEYER: Your middle linebacker. That's when we flex [Hernandez] out and throw him the ball. Does that make sense to you? If you put a corner on him, a small guy, you put a back on him. It's the same thing. We had Percy Harvin. We have Omarius Hines now. We have Chris Rainey. We have Jeff Demps. When you flex him out, who do you put on him?

"That's what Coach Addazio, the offensive staff and the guy upstairs are saving. Where are our match-up issues at? If the match-up is not good, take the match-up that's good. That's why we spread the field. Does that make sense to everybody?

"There are so many misunderstanding about the spread offense. Here's a little secret for you. What's the difference between the spread offense that we run and the New England Patriots and about a dozen teams in the NFL as far as throw game? Nothing. It's the same exact passing game that NFL teams use.

"You here that nonsense about, 'Are the spread receivers ready to go?' [Louis] Murphy, Percy Harvin, Riley Cooper, Cornelius Ingram, Aaron Hernandez, Bubba Caldwell, so the answer is very simple. Are they ready? Sure they're ready. Because the Florida haters like to say we don't have the best receivers in the country, but we do.

So, once again, the spread offense is a pound-you-first offense. When they bring an extra guy in the box to try and stop the run game, what do we do? Confused guy again, what do we do? Don't duck down! [LAUGHS]

CONFUSED GUY: Throw the ball.

MEYER: Throw the ball! Right! To who?

CONFUSED GUY: [INAUDIBLE]

MEYER: The best match-up! Does that make sense. Should we go over that again. Do you play that video game? I bet you get your $** kicked in that video game. [HOWLING LAUGHTER]

Damn. Been busy as hell all day and right as my day starts to get less hectic this !**! is released. SMMFH

Rumor is that up 9 players were getting improper help from tutors. IE- they were writing papers for them. I guess when the NCAA came back to do some "digging" they found old e-mails or texts from a player to a tutor which got us to where we are at now. Presser at 7 or 7:30 should explain some things. I'm not sure how similar it is to FSU from a few years back though.

Just when I thought we were about to turn the corner as a program this nightmare happens. Got damn it.

Colorado’s Dan Hawkins wants a contract extension
Big 12Coloradocollege football — posted by matt murschel on August, 26 2010 3:11 PM

Colorado coach Dan Hawkins wants a contract extension.

Colorado coach Dan Hawkins has floated the idea of a contract extension to school officials.

You have to give it to the Buffaloes coach for even talking about an extension considering Hawkins is 16-33 during his tenure at Colorado. His contract isn’t up until the 2012 season and the university is currently so financially strapped, they won’t be able to leave the Big 12 until 2012.

According to Kyle Ringo of The Boulder Daily Cameravia SportsbyBrooks, Hawkins floated the idea of a contract extension during a meeting of head coaches this summer. According to the story when a senior staff member asked Hawkins what the school could do to help his program succeed, the Colorado coach responded by saying the school should give him a contract extension.

Hawkins confirmed the story after practice on Wednesday and claimed the reasons he chose to answer the question the way he did was, “Just the continuity, stability.

Man, Butch looks like $+%! during this press conference.

From what it looks like, the ncaa review will extend into the season. I'm guessing we won't play anyone in question at this point, but who knows.

Also a tutor in question was not Butch's nanny, it was a tutor for his son as well.

wassup with the USC scrimmage tonite?

and Vols have 18 true freshmen in the two deep depth chart. GONNA BE A LONNNNGGGGG season

UNC kicks Brown, Burney off team as investigation widens

By Will Brinson
Special to CBSSports.com
Aug. 26, 2010

To say that things regarding the NCAA investigation in Chapel Hill heated up today would be an understatement -- Inside Carolina reported that UNC self-reported "academic issues pertaining to a tutor."

As soon as that happened, the proverbial mess hit the fan: Our own Dennis Dodd reported that the University will announce a "widening of an NCAA investigation" at the 7:30 ET news conference the school has scheduled.

That same tutor, according to reports from ESPN's Joe Schad and Inside Carolina's Greg Barnes, also (inexplicably) served as the nanny for UNC head coach Butch Davis.

A source has also told CBSSports.com that two players, cornerbacks Charles Brown and Kendrick Burney, have already been kicked off of the football team.

At this time, we cannot confirm whether or not those dismissals will be announced during Thursday night's press conference.

Additionally, the same source told CBSSports.com that "four players have been cleared and the rest are toast" -- meaning four of the defensive starters on Carolina's team.

Erin Summers of WRAL in Raleigh also reported that "it's all but four players on the starting defense who are involved in the academic infractions."

The information from our source falls right in line with the -- as yet unconfirmed -- reports that the majority of the defensive starters were removed from the first team reps during Carolina's closed practice, and that Chancellor Holden Thorp addressed the football team on the field earlier.

It is believed that Thorp, along with Davis and athletic director %%%! Baddour, will be present at the news conference.

As a matter of interest only in the sense of reasonable practicality, the Las Vegas betting line for the UNC-LSU game has been removed from many online gambling sites.
