If true, I take back my prediction of them beating LSU to open the season.

Not true, that's just rumors propagated by VT because UNC's stealing all our recruits.

The fact about our situation is that no one knows ##**. The only people that know whats going on are the players interviewed, the ncaa, and the coaching staff/AD.

I've heard that at MA and GL will be gone from the team, that MA will be gone and that GL will be suspended, that MA will be gone and GL will be fine, as many as 3 players will be kicked off the team, etc.

No one knows anything. As a UNC fan and alum it sucks being in this position, but hopefully it will be resolved sooner rather than later.

This is not good for CFB at all man.

UNC could go from having one of the best defenses outside the SEC in years (Since Miami early 2000's)? to a bunch of backups starting.

Is this real bad for CFB in ya'll opinion?

Just to tell you how ridiculous it is getting here's what one guy with a source is saying:

Marvin was getting annoyed with all of the agents calling him so he wanted to mess with them because they wouldn't leave him alone. He told a couple agents that he would agree to meet with them if they paid him a fee for the meeting. The meetings with said agent(s) never happened because the agent didn't want to pay the fee being requested. This also the agent(s) to believe that they weren't getting a fair chance to talk to him and build a preliminary relationships, which also led to the belief that foul play was going on. Out of frustration, the agent contacted the ncaa and other coaching staffs with what he believed was going down with the NFL prospects on UNC. The ncaa caught wind of this stuff, started keeping tabs on Marvin and the other UNC players which includes keeping records on all of their activity through social networking sites like twitter and facebook.

Now obviously this story is far fetched, but the fact is that it's still out there and some people believe that this is what happened.

I'm not going to get caught up in everyone with their sources because I think no one knows a damn thing. I just hope the NCAA won't drag this thing out and it will be resolved before September 4th.

It's funny because I read the post you made before that and was going to respond with how you seem to be reasonable about all of this...but to even repost something like that nonsense?  Let's be real.

Ddot- I just posted that because it was literally on IC and had a string of posters believing that it was a legitimate possibility for what happened.

But finally some clarity on the situation:

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Inside Carolina has learned more details into the NCAA investigation involving the North Carolina football program.

As Inside Carolina reported on Thursday evening, the investigation centers on possible improper benefits provided to seniors Marvin Austin, a defensive tackle, and Greg Little, a wide receiver, as well as several other NFL Draft prospects that elected to come back for the 2010 season. The NCAA inquired about benefits coming from non-University influences that included rent, jewelry and travel.
New information has emerged that the travel inquiries included weekend trips to both Miami and Las Vegas. While Austin’s travel expenses to South Florida remain a focal point of the investigation, IC has confirmed that an undisclosed player’s travel expenses for one of the trips in question were properly paid for by an immediate family member.

Despite various players being interviewed by NCAA representatives last week, the investigation has seemingly narrowed to a pair of Tar Heels.

“It’s starting to look like Austin and possibly one other player are the only ones in danger of facing disciplinary action, and that’s not even a sure thing at this point,

Ah, okay. I misread it as you still thinking it was worthwhile to post because of the possibility it was true. My bad...I was blinded by the idiocy of it all.

3 years?  Bush took money for less than a year.
On the topic of Pouncey, I agree it's apples and oranges comparison.  As for UNC, if the allegations are true, they deserve the death penalty considering what SC got for one player.

You have to already recieved and served a probationary period to get the death penalty.

Once a player takes money, they lose all eligibility.

On Monday, Pat Forde of ESPN.com reported that the NCAA and Florida are investigating whether former Gators center (and Steelers rookie) Maurkice Pouncey received $100,000 between the 2009 SEC title game and the team's January 2010 bowl game.

Now, Joe Schad of ESPN.com reports, via Twitter, that the Pouncey family "plans to deny any wrongdoing" on Tuesday.

Schad also explains that the letter sent to Florida tipping the program off to the potential problem was postmarked in Canada, and that it "contained photographic evidence of an alleged runner for an agent in social situations," presumably with the Pounceys.

Still, Schad reports that the Pounceys have provided "phone, bank and credit card statements that do not show large payments."

But Maurkice Pouncey bought an Escalade and jewelry after the draft.  He claims that he paid for it with a deferred line of credit, and that at times he loaned it to his brother, Mike, who still plays for the Gators.

A separate source with knowledge of the Pouncey family tells us that, in the source's opinion, it's 99.99 percent likely that the Pounceys did not accept cash or other benefits from an agent before Maurkice's eligibility expired.

Though there's no NCAA ban on paying players after their college eligibility expires, the NFLPA prevents payments to induce players to sign with football agents.  So it's possible that Maurkice Pouncey actually was paid -- if he was paid at all -- after the bowl game.  This would create no problems for Pouncey or the Gators, but it would create a problem for the agent.

Complicating matters is the ongoing presence of Mike Pouncey at Florida.  If an agent gave cash or any other thing of value to the Pounceys after Maurkice left Florida, the gesture could create problems for Mike.

I dont follow HS like ya dudes but is Demetrius Hart that "dude"? As a UM fan I read up on our future prospects and I hear mixed reviews on his running ability. I've heard from some heads the he's a spread version of Mike Hart

I was half-joking but if NCAA can deliver a near-death penalty for SC based on allegations from an ex-convict, why not detonate UNC's football stadium?
