Our own students deserve priority. The lower in state rates are to allow those who are legal state citizens to furthere their education at a lower cost. Why should we have to compete with outsiders who bring money out of the country and just come here for our schools. College seats are already competitive at record levels.

Son Maryland hit it on the head. Do the morally correct thing and take care of all of those living in their state, and let the federal government handle immigration.
Plus there are enough stipulations around this where I don't feel it will be abused our have monies go to someone undeserving.

Where did you get that 70% figure? Just because someones parents pay state tax doesnt mean the parents arent illegal. Not to mention they never said for how long, a family could have been here illegally for 12 years and since the is child required to go to school theyve been in our system for free all this time.

On one hand, it's "better" for us as a country to keep immigrants in illegal status because they don't have access to many of the luxuries citizens do. On the other hand, if you forced these illegals to become citizens, they would be required to pay taxes.

The fact that you can be illegal and instead of kicking you out we say "hey, pay your taxes and we really don't care if you broke the law to get here," is a travesty.

This law does nothing but provide a benefit to people who aren't supposed to be here. Whether it's through no fault of their own or not, the facts are the facts. This isn't saying we suddenly allow kids to go to college, this is saying we are providing a monetary benefit for you to go to our state school. You and your family shouldn't be living here and therefore you should be charged OUT OF STATE tuition.
