rudy need to stop with the dumb fouls. I'm confident memphis will have a great 3rd qtr and bring it in

zbo got 21 and like 10 boards alrdy lmao. This place love zbo. They were cheering for him like he's the best player in the league. Smh if he don't winplayer of the month or week or something

A series of pretty good events for the Grizz today:

1. Jaric potential buyout could/should free up some additional capspace -- even if it is only $500k a year this year and next. Add that to the approx $500k incap space the Grizz already have, plus Marcus Williams' non-guaranteed contract if cut before Jan. 15th and the Grizz can get to $1.5 to $2 million in capspace this year.

2. The Jazz and Thunder orchestrated a brilliant deal for both teams today, but now the Thunder are at the cap so they can't do a capspace deal.

3. Not signing Wafer keeps the cap and roster flexibility the Grizz need to make a move.

4. There are going to be multiple teams anxious to shed salary and tax before the deadline -- $1.5 million of Grizz capspace is $3 million of savings to thetaxpaying team. It also allows the Grizz to get a decent player in the $5-$6 million range in exchange for Stephen Hunter's expiring plus capspace.

Teams that may look to trade:

Portland - They have no front court depth. Maybe dealing them Haddadi or Hunter's expiring and a 1st rounder could pry a swingman away from them.

Golden State - Fire sale. They are also thin in the frontcourt.

New Jersey- They have plenty of G/F's.

Buying out contracts count against the cap space.

Thunders may have took on a bit of cap, but they just solidified their PG position. westbrook can even be expendable, although i highly doubt it.

Portland/NJ make def. be looking to make some deals. thing is, NJ only consists of expirings, and they're not taking any more contracts.
Joel got injured today, correct? they're going to get desperate soon.

Memphis should make a run at Caron. all it takes should be expirings+a first round.

Portland - Only guy I can see realistically coming in is Outlaw whom I like. He won't be back until next month though.

Golden State - Morrow would help a ton but I don't think he's attainable. No to Maggette and Azubuike is out with a knee injury.

Jersey - No way CDR or TWill are on the market. Maybe CLee but meh even that may be unlikely.

Griz pass on Wafer; is trade next?

The Grizzlies passed on signing free-agent guard Von Wafer on Tuesday because of injuries that the team believed wouldn't allow him to play right away.

Wafer, 6-5, was in Memphis on Sunday and Monday and underwent a series of tests that revealed a hip and back injury. The Griz backed off because of Wafer's pre-existing conditions and their interest in a sudden trade proposal, according to team sources.

Wafer, however, was expected to sign a deal with his former team, the Houston Rockets.

The Florida State alumnus recently agreed to a buyout with a Greek team, Olympiakos. He was expected to join the Griz after receiving a letter of clearance from FIBA.

The Griz rejected Wafer after his physical.

Wafer last played in the NBA with the Rockets during the 2008-09 season, when he averaged 9.7 points on 44.7 percent shooting.

He connected on 39 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Wafer told a Houston television station that he paid about $1.2 million to get out of his contract in Greece.

"I want to play in the NBA," said Wafer, who boarded a plane from Memphis to Houston on Tuesday night.

The Rockets reacquired Wafer because of an ankle injury to rookie forward Chase Budinger.

Odds and ends

Griz general manager Chris Wallace had a couple of items on his managerial plate Tuesday as the team is close to finalizing a buyout agreement with swingman Marko Jaric.

The 6-7 veteran is seeking a release so that he can play for Real Madrid in Spain.

Jaric and the Griz mutually agreed that he would not join the team this season. Jaric, 31, is under contract through 2010-11 but is willing to give back about $1.3 million for his freedom.

Jaric will be reunited with coach Ettore Messina nine years after they guided Kinder Bologna to Euroleague and Italian league titles.

The Griz acquired Jaric in a 2008 draft-day trade that also brought second-year guard O.J. Mayo to Memphis.

The Grizzlies-Warriors contest might have been a home game for Monta Ellis on Tuesday night if trade talks had gotten serious last month. The Griz and Warriors engaged in mild discussions involving Ellis, an NBA source told The Commercial Appeal.

A potential deal was never close and the sides haven't spoken in weeks regarding Ellis. Reportedly, the Warriors are no longer interested in parting with the fifth-year guard from Jackson, Miss.

The Warriors, however, are said to be willing to discuss just about everyone else on their roster in the wake of a 7-20 season.

Wafer failed his physical in Houston too. No wonder why they didn't want him.
