Portland - Only guy I can see realistically coming in is Outlaw whom I like. He won't be back until next month though.Originally Posted by bhzmafia14
Portland - They have no front court depth. Maybe dealing them Haddadi or Hunter's expiring and a 1st rounder could pry a swingman away from them.
Golden State - Fire sale. They are also thin in the frontcourt.
New Jersey- They have plenty of G/F's.
Griz pass on Wafer; is trade next?
The Grizzlies passed on signing free-agent guard Von Wafer on Tuesday because of injuries that the team believed wouldn't allow him to play right away.
Wafer, 6-5, was in Memphis on Sunday and Monday and underwent a series of tests that revealed a hip and back injury. The Griz backed off because of Wafer's pre-existing conditions and their interest in a sudden trade proposal, according to team sources.
Wafer, however, was expected to sign a deal with his former team, the Houston Rockets.
The Florida State alumnus recently agreed to a buyout with a Greek team, Olympiakos. He was expected to join the Griz after receiving a letter of clearance from FIBA.
The Griz rejected Wafer after his physical.
Wafer last played in the NBA with the Rockets during the 2008-09 season, when he averaged 9.7 points on 44.7 percent shooting.
He connected on 39 percent of his 3-point attempts.
Wafer told a Houston television station that he paid about $1.2 million to get out of his contract in Greece.
"I want to play in the NBA," said Wafer, who boarded a plane from Memphis to Houston on Tuesday night.
The Rockets reacquired Wafer because of an ankle injury to rookie forward Chase Budinger.
Odds and ends
Griz general manager Chris Wallace had a couple of items on his managerial plate Tuesday as the team is close to finalizing a buyout agreement with swingman Marko Jaric.
The 6-7 veteran is seeking a release so that he can play for Real Madrid in Spain.
Jaric and the Griz mutually agreed that he would not join the team this season. Jaric, 31, is under contract through 2010-11 but is willing to give back about $1.3 million for his freedom.
Jaric will be reunited with coach Ettore Messina nine years after they guided Kinder Bologna to Euroleague and Italian league titles.
The Griz acquired Jaric in a 2008 draft-day trade that also brought second-year guard O.J. Mayo to Memphis.
The Grizzlies-Warriors contest might have been a home game for Monta Ellis on Tuesday night if trade talks had gotten serious last month. The Griz and Warriors engaged in mild discussions involving Ellis, an NBA source told The Commercial Appeal.
A potential deal was never close and the sides haven't spoken in weeks regarding Ellis. Reportedly, the Warriors are no longer interested in parting with the fifth-year guard from Jackson, Miss.
The Warriors, however, are said to be willing to discuss just about everyone else on their roster in the wake of a 7-20 season.
Wafer failed his physical in Houston too. No wonder why they didn't want him.
