I insinuated nothing about Em.you insinuated that he was some paragon of virtue for taking on bush
all i said if he was all that then what else has he done other than a lyric
i was informed he's done things for detroit and thats great
but for someone who "came up from the bottom" as a white man
i would think he would recognize how much more difficult it is for a black man
someone brought up proof before, more talented and from the same area
yet proof never got the dre co sign
but lets ignore all of that because em is so "credible"
sure it helps black people i didnt say it didnt
i said specifically for black ppl, like the uncf or naacp
you making it sound like he was so active what else did he do? donate any money anywhere?
And he aint successful at all. Why his whiteness aint propel him to stardom?ah but there was a redneck rapper
anyone remember bubba sparks?
a foundation in his own name
i wonder how much funds he embezzled
everyone with their own nonprofit is banking off it
I can't think of another rapper period that has the same type of twisted content that Eminem does.
sup is this the new tan thread?
Have you heard of Necro? The I Need Drugs album + any of his early WKCR freestyle sessions
Did you ever listen to The Geto Boys around '89/'90? Mind Of A Lunatic/Assassins, etc...
(if not i hope you check it out cause its some of the best hip-hop ever produced...grip it & the rubin remaster) and i'm sure it influenced eminem
The thing is, for most comics, coming up with an hour of material is really hard. Sure you get exposure from Netflix, but also you could tour the entire country using your same set that you know is funny. Now you have to workshop an entire new bit again. A special means the end of your material. Now the difference with something like Comedy Central is that they only play specials twice and that’s pretty much it. So you can still tour and use some of your material because it’s likely people haven’t seen it. With Netflix, it doesn’t go away.Since I'm not sure what everyone else's deal looked like other than the money(pretty much 1- 8 ), I can't say whether this was bad or not.
And even if this was bad, I don't think it's because of racism or sexism personally.
P.S. I'm not in show business, but this deal doesn't look that bad to me. Netflix pretty much owns this special, so all she has to do is not use this same material in recorded shows for 2 years and not film a new special in 1 year. How often do comics record specials anyway? It doesn't say anything about her future gigs or new jokes, so from a business perspective( at least to me). She could take this deal, film and release the special, than write new martial and go on the road. It doesn't say anything about Netflix getting a cut from people that attend her live shows after the special.
Don't most comics retire the material after the special comes out anyway? Also there are a few months between the recording and the actual release of the special she could use the time in between to work shop new martial. If the special does well, she could sell out theaters and have new jokes. The thing is, for most comics, coming up with an hour of material is really hard. She deemed that 500k isn’t enough when compared to hot traveling or doing the road for 2 years or however long the deal is for
Depends. John Mulaney was using jokes from his stand up special on his sitcom years later. I’ve seen Dave Chappelle use jokes on a late night show that was in a special. Now granted those are jokes jokes and not full routinesDon't most comics retire the material after the special comes out anyway? U can believe he paid his dues all u wantEm's "credibility" comes from the fact that he was not a break out star who was discovered by somebody and brought out, like a Justin Beiber. But instead he actually "paid his dues" being a battle rapper and earning his "cred" from 0 to where he is now. Did being white benefit him? Of course, the same way being short benefits Nate Robinson being a great dunker.
This this this^^ DMX?....
