BUT THE WORLD IS ENDING ON THE 21ST. SO WE DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT!!!!1!!11!!1

I don't buy in to stuff like this. Just live your damn life one day at a time, and don't worry about whats in the future

I'm calling ducktales. NASA just wants to sell that weak %+% astronaut food that they have at Cape Canaveral

it's kind of weird all of a sudden that they are finally bringing this topic up to the forefront. seems like they don't want to hide it anymore. hope this isn't true though

Now days people can't go anywhere without a cell phone.
So a huge Super Solar storm would just be building up undetected until a year before it's supposed to hit Earth? It's not like it would just appear out of nowhere, stuff doesn't form that fast in space.

It's not forming in space. It is hurled forth out if the sun/ stars.
When solar flares occur, we wouldn't have less than a few minutes warning. The sun could wipe out our whole existence and there wouldn't even be a trace that our accomplishments and civilization was even here. There are particles in CME's-Coronal Mass Ejections that have no mass and pass through objects without slowing down.
And you're cell phone is gonna be the first thing that stops working. Cell phones are infra red radio frequencies. Frequencies coming out of the sun are ultra violet and are vibrating wayyyy faster and are way more powerful.

Q: Is there a danger from giant solar storms predicted for 2012?
A: Solar activity has a regular cycle, with peaks approximately every 11 years. Near these activity peaks, solar flares can cause some interruption of satellite communications, although engineers are learning how to build electronics that are protected against most solar storms. But there is no special risk associated with 2012. The next solar maximum will occur in the 2012-2014 time frame and is predicted to be an average solar cycle, no different than previous cycles throughout history.
