NBA Off-Season News Thread: Roy extends 80/5, AI to Grizz, Chandler/Okafor swap, Marquis to C's.

With Shaq and Sheed, and the ridding of guys who barely made a contribution this year, even a buffoon like Mike Brown can win a championship. I would 100% takeKaman as well.

Detroit is desperate if they're going after Gordon, that just seems like a move to put people in the seats. I really think that team is a mess, even ifSheed and Rip still have game left, which I think both do.

Kobe is opting out to re-structure his contract for the better of the team, not because he's leaving

I honestly think losing Ariza or Odom would be ablow to that team. They're perfect as is, and the Lakers need Kobe to take a pay cut...he's no dummy.

I've said it before but ##$! it, this offseason is going to be big...

This is for the New York Knicks fans

And its not the first time T-mac talks of him coming to NY has been brung up

Brings me a lil hope for the knicks

Source: Knicks Inquire About T-Mac

Jun 17, 2009 7:15 AM EST

The Knicks have inquired with the Rockets about star swingman Tracy McGrady, according to a source.

Alan Hahn of Newsday writes that New York and Houston have engaged in preliminary discussions about McGrady.

McGrady has one year and $23 million left on his contract, which makes him an intriguing option for a team looking to take a chance and still preserve cap roomfor 2010.

Yeah, I don't understand why so many people are enamored with Sheed. HE IS A CANCER.

Yes, he's a wonderful talent. But if Sheed has never fulfilled his promise of becoming THE premier power forward in the game (not even for 1 FULL season)during his peak years, why the heck would you guys think he'd be such a "great" addition to the Cavs in his twilight years???

Sheed plays when he wants to. Always has. And I'd never want a guy who dogs it like that as a key piece to my championship team. NEVER.

He might be a nice fit for a team like the Magic (where he can just jack up 3s all game). Or if the Lakers didn't have Pau, I could see him MAYBE doingwell with an established coach like Phil Jax and a proven player like 24.

But in Cleveland (with heavily criticized - and not exactly secure - Mike Brown) and "unproven" LBJ, he'd cause chaos.

As far as McGrady to the Knicks.... I don't like it for the simple fact that T-Mac would probably pout about going to a non-championship contender. AndT-Mac is one of those players who has to "feel good about himself" to be playing well.

How do you know. Dude won a chip and from what I have read other than Buillips he was considered the leadr of those Piston teams, in fact Flipsaid he could coach one day.

So this ain't "days of our lives" nobody cares about "promises".

Rasheed Wallce is one of the best defensive bigs in the league and is probably the best individual post defender in the league.
Also he has one tool the Cavs really lack and that is an efficient post scorer, when the Pistons really needed they put him on the block and get a basket hecan still do that for the Cavs. As long as the price is right Rasheed would be a great addition to that team.

I think Rasheed always played hard, just not the right way.

Lebron aint a proven player? Rasheeds not ******ed he realized his shot to win a chip when he got to detroit and will again here.

Why? What makes you think this, when has he ever done this before.

You're right. I don't know for a FACT that Sheed is a cancer.

But you can't deny the FACT that he brings silliness like his penchant for drawing techs and his affinity for the 3 ball (as a PF!).

So you saying that he would bring post offense is stretching it a bit. For instance, Sheed took 11 shots per game last year. Of those 11, 5 were from beyondthe arc. PER GAME. Yeah, Cle would be getting some awesome post offense out of him.

You also say that you read Sheed was the leader of those Piston teams. Well I have read articles in the past from anonymous sources saying Sheed is a cancerand doesn't play hard every game. We'll both never be able to prove our respective points. So that's a wash.

And finally:

The same Rasheed that pretty much threw in the towel last season when he had a solid enough team around him to push for another championship?Allen Iverson isn't just as proven a player as LBJ?? As a matter of fact, AI is more proven than LBJ simply b/c AI has been CONSISTENTLY playing at asuper high level for a longer time than LeBron has even been in the L.

So if Sheed didn't jump on that opportunity, what makes you so sure that he will jump on this one?

That's not "******ed" to you??

Sheed is not a cancer in the locker room...by all accounts, he's always gotten along and been loved by his team mates.

He just goes through the motions and settles too much. But he is a quality defender and a threat from anywhere on the court.

SHUGES: gotta disagree with you my man. I don't think that Pistons team could've come close to another 'ship to be honest. Are you talking pre- orpost-Billups trade? Even with Chauncey it just doesn't seem likely. Regardless, I DO think that Sheed threw in the towel this year because he knew his teamhad no chance. Is that a reputable decision as a player? Of course not. But a 2-year stint with the Cavs couldn't be ALL bad, especially considering wehave next to no inside scoring, and at this point we're losing in the ECF to Orlando in 6, and this is WITHOUT a healthy KG in Boston. Point being Idon't think it's a bad experiment for the Cavs, especially if we use our MLE. I totally see where your argument is coming from, and hearing reports ofSheed and AI partying until 4AM in casinos is never enticing, but I think with the rind mindset he could be OK (when he was first traded to DET). I actuallythink Sheed was never fully motivated under Flip Saunders, then came his firing and Chauncey's trade...etc.

so much for that dealing for AI to land a guy like Bosh.

They can still land Bosh if they sign Gordon. Detroit has $20M in contracts that expire in 2010.

Stuckey
Gordon/Afflalo
Prince
Bosh

ohwell.gif
He's obviously got a lot of work to do.

Outside of that historic draft blunder, he's actually done well. How many other GMs have had as much success?

The problem with Sheed is that he goes through the motions when things aren't going well. Look, that Pistons team plateaued and was in no way a truecontender last year. Don't kid yourself.

When there is success, you couldn't find a better teammate and more effective post defender (who'll pitch in on the offense plenty). No doubt playingwith LeBron would reinvigorate him again.

Anyways, if I'm the Cavs, I try to steal Josh Smith right now!

On paper, Sheed is PERFECT for LeBron and the Cavs. ON PAPER.

Pick and rolls or pick and pops with Bron and Sheed? Filthy.

Those two playin D on the same court with their length, speed, would be just unfair.

BUT,

Shuges is right on the mentality of Sheed. He may not have his head on straight, may not listen to a word Bron says, may not care. That is a huge risk. Ifhe played ball, worked his butt off, then yes, he would be a great fit, but if he was Portland Sheed, or last year Sheed, he would destory that team, and Bronwould walk disgusted as all hell. He's not a cancer in the sense that his teammates hate him, he's a cancer as far as his play draining on others.

Sorry I haven't been updating as much, been spending time with my girl now that we're both off from school.

Anyways, this is a huge story, JEFFERSON AND 6th FOR AMARE!

http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/59885/20090618/jefferson_for_stoudemire_in_the_works/

An NBA executive told the Boston Globe that the Timberwolves and Suns are working on a trade that would send Al Jefferson and the Wolves' sixth draft pickto Phoenix in exchange for Amare Stoudemire.

David Kahn is looking to make dramatic changes after recently being hired in Minnesota.
