NBA Off-Season News Thread: Roy extends 80/5, AI to Grizz, Chandler/Okafor swap, Marquis to C's.

No Ron Artest. No Trevor Ariza. No Shawn Marion.

Tony Montana's sister re-ups for 6 years $50 million.

Has OC came in here yet with his usual homer spin? Or maybe he hasn't figured it out yet.

Power moves. Thats what Cleveland is making this off-season. He can come off the bench for Lebron and our team wont miss a beat. I like this possibility. Mid-level is exceptional but I say go for the 1 year Ferry. Ariza has played on multiple teams over a short span of time. I say use him the same way you would Shaq. Short-term acquire.

He hustles hard and crashes boards.

Lets get 'em Cleveland.

McDyess is older. He entered the draft 2 years before Iverson. I think he left Alabama during his freshman season and AI left during his sophomore season.

Yeah McD is older. He left his sophomore year and was drafted 2nd overall in the 95 draft.

Another major multi-team trade might be looming in the NBA with the Portland Trail Blazers, Utah Jazz and Chicago Bulls having discussed a deal that would be headlined by Carlos Boozer and Kirk Hinrich, according to NBA front-office sources.

Sources stressed to ESPN.com that no deal was imminent Thursday and that both Portland and Utah are still evaluating multiple trade scenarios. But two sources with knowledge of the three-team proposal confirmed that there have been substantive talks regarding a trade that would land Boozer in Chicago, Hinrich in Portland and Tyrus Thomas in Utah.

A deal featuring those main components would deliver the elite low-post scorer that the Bulls have been chasing for years in Boozer and furnish Portland with a lead guard in Hinrich that the Blazers are known to rate highly as a potential backcourt mate for Brandon Roy. It's possible that other players would be added to balance out the transaction from a salary-cap perspective if the three teams elect to take these talks further.

Yet even if this deal collapses, sources say it is clear that the Jazz are becoming increasingly open to the possibility of moving Boozer now to increase their financial flexibility to re-sign restricted free agent Paul Millsap.

Despite fresh reports Thursday about the Blazers weighing whether to sign Millsap to an offer sheet, Hinrich is the player Portland prefers, according to one source close to the process, after the Blazers came so close last week to landing the versatile Hedo Turkoglu.

Boozer has only one season left at $12.7 million after declining the option in his contract to become an unrestricted free agent July 1. It's believed that the Jazz are determined to keep Millsap but are concerned about the luxury-tax consequences of signing him to a long-term deal.

Too much in that deal don't make sense to me. Portland tryin to steal Milsap from Utah, why would they participate in a trade that would help the Jazz tokeep Milsap?
ohwell.gif
All so Portland could add Kirk Hinrich?!? Thas it? I'd rather have Milsap man.
laugh.gif

But if the Jazz can keep Milsap, and add Ty Thomas, that's something that could be worked with. That would free Okur up even more to shoot 3's.

And Booz in Chicago would be good, and in a contract year no less

It's about time they are getting something right. I like Hinrich in Portland. I like Boozer in Chicago. Tyrus Thomas in Utah is ehhh. But, its a prettygood deal.

Ronny Turiaf is that you?

That's the person the Blazers should have been after all along. They been in need of a PG, so Hinrich makes sense, but Utah needs to stop playin, and makea deal so they can keep Millsap, because Boozer is obviously not in their future.

Millsap is the better talent with the better future, but Hinrich is the better fit for the team because of his experience, defense, perimetershooting and versatility.

So what does Portland give up? Outlaw? I don't see anyone mentioned as leaving them in the deal. Unless it's just dropping the deal with Milsap.

If they leave Milsap alone, they wouldn't have to move Pryz, and they would upgrade at PG, I guess that makes sense to me, just wonder who they have togive up. Maybe Blake?

They could just take on Hinrich's contract, couldn't they? Or does he make more than their cap number can take on?

I think Portland would just take Hinrich's contract since they are under the cap by about $9M...worst case, they send out Steve Blake or Travis Outlaw.

You can take on a peice without giving up anything?

Kirk got one of those deals I was askin about, his number goes down each year. 9.5 this year, 9 next, and 8 the year after.

If Boozer gets dealt to Chicago, you best believe that the Bulls will be working on an extension to keep him locked up there.

If you're under the cap, sure...

That's generally how these trade exceptions are created... You trade a piece to a team under the cap, and rather than taking back players to match thesalary, you get the trade exception for that value...

Any time a team is under the cap, in this case Portland they can accept a higher paid player through trade. So since Portland is reportedly underthe cap about $9M, they could take Hinrich for nothing since he's making about the same amount. When Rashard Lewis went to Orlando it was through asign-and-trade where all Seattle got at the time was a draft pick because Orlando was well under the cap at the time, so they didn't have to compensateSeattle with a balanced trade financially.

Hoopshype says they are about 8.9 under if they drop a couple euro's. So they'd have to move some other cat somewhere, or restructure Kirk a little Iguess.

Anyone see Pritchard's comments on Hedo off of Twitter I guess. "We're after guys who are about winning, and being unselfish."
