My freshman year in college when our wifi blocked Xbox live we used my phone as a router to get on Xbox live and play halo.


I know I had to have been racking up hundreds of thousands of MB's worth of data playing halo for hours straight a couple days a week for a whole semester.

But ATT never charged me more than that $30 for unlimited data plan I was on.

you were either roaming, used your 5GB in 2 hours (which i find to be pretty hard to do, especially with a cell phone data connection) or you didn't havean unlimited plan (which is a lie, since it's capped @ 5GB a month). my guess is you were roaming. either way, fight it. some dude got hit with a huge billbecause he was watching a giants game through is computer while using his phone to tether, company said he was on international waters when he was stillwaiting for the cruise ship to board.

I have seen this twice on Clark Howard.

1st guy downloaded WALL-E for his nephew and got a bill the size of a book for $62,000. After he harassed them enough, they said they would settle for a"fair amount" - $18,000 LOL. After Clark Howard called them, they dropped the bill...

The 2nd guy was waiting for his boat to leave the dock and used his phone as a modem to burn some time and got a huge bill. I don't remember how much itwas, but it was thousands.

I don't see the big deal with tethering anyway, I mean it's cool if you NEED a connection, and I mean NEED a connection bad, but other than that it's just something nice to know I can do. I don't know about 56K, maybe more like DSL. I've tethered and downloaded at like 150kbsp before.

it's not 56k, not even close. i've used sprint cards w/ routers and downloaded way faster than i did from my DSL line. downloaded 2 pornos lol. andthat was with 2 other computers connected.

But I was tethering with a 3G phone playing on xbox live with 4 people on the same console and no lag whatsoever.

What kind of phone do you have? I have unlimited data so I never have that problem, I don't think it's capoped at 5gs either because I use it ALL DAYdaily at work and do use it for downloading, watching videos, Ustream, etc. And it's MUCH faster than 56k if you are in a 3g zone. Like dude said, it canget upwards of 150 kbps easily, sites like youtube and ustream are no problem. I even let other people jump in my wifi and still it's fast enough when I goto like a Youtube page, the video starts playing right away because it's downloading at a speed that will allow the actual play time not to surpass howmuch you have downloaded..

i tether all the time $40 unlimited w/ Sprint. I dont care what anyone says Sprint Biz acct is the best biz acct I ever had. Been thru Verizon, ATT, T-mobile.
