New Season Thread Made, Move on Over :)

Deron Williams ain't that good man. He's just a name and a fatty natty daddy.

He ain't no GP where he can shut down the opposing player. That's what LA needs.

LA's success came from the TRIANGLE. It is, was, and forever will be.

Howard has no offensive moves, but his presence on the inside is what will help LA, as their guard/wing guys are slow and weak.

 for Pau..

Edit: Never knew that Murphy was a 49ers fan..

Andrew has better post moves and footwork than Dwight but that does not matter if you don't jump or have an accurate touch. Perkins and Ibaka challenged most of his shots and were effective cause Andrew does not really jump when he shoots.

I don't see any actual moves that can be made in the offseason to make this a championship caliber team. I think they need to take a few years and get some draft picks and develop those players...

If we do Drew for Dwight (and whatever else)

Would Pau for Josh Smith still work?  PMatic?

This is your deal, you like that?

We just became a damn beast on defense, hella boards, pick and rolls, lob city for real, and if Sessions stayed, we could even run a lil bit with that group.

We'd need 2 shooters, no Kapono.

Depending on what else came with Dwight or Josh (reddick, etc) that may be one, then just need another, ala Nick Young?

Dwight, McRoberts
Smith, Hill
Ron, Young, shooter TBD
Kobe, Goudelock
Sessions, Blake, Morris

I have ZERO idea if this works money wise, but I could learn to enjoy it.  Would be a complete change from what we've had.

The Lakers are really in the grey zone in terms of their talent level, age, trade assets with value, and contracts that will saddle them down. They could stand pat with the Kobe, Pau, and Bynum core, or they could do their best to break it up. My gut says the latter; the Lakers will likely try and move Pau and/or Bynum if they get the right deal, although they did that with Pau all season.

If the Lakers don't make a move now, their hands will be tied for the next few seasons until Kobe and Pau's contracts are up. Even now, it might be too late to get something of value in return for Pau - the summer will probably tell.

- Dwight could be a very real possibility. If the Magic trade him, all the Lakers need to do is convince themselves to take the risk on Dwight and his contract situation. According to reports, the Bynum deal would've been the one that the Magic had taken at the deadline.

- Deron is probably a longshot. They'd need the right circumstances - Deron to want LA, forcing the Nets to take some type of S&T rather than be left with nothing.

- Heard the Lakers would go after Jeremy Lin. Not sure how seriously, or what they'd be willing to do, or if they just expect to be competitive with the MLE.

- Not sure the point when the Lakers decide to age into obscurity and let a slow rebuilding process take place - or what their ultimate goals would be. Wait a few years for CP3? James Harden? Kevin Love? I think those types of waiting games are too unpredictable when thinking multiple years in the future. Harden is in a good situation, will get offered a big extension by the team he's on, and there's a good chance he'll take it. Love is locked up for a few years - maybe think about it once Kobe retires, but not yet.

I expect the Lakers to go for a major overhaul, but it remains to be seen if their assets can get the overhaul done.

So it's pretty safe to say, as far as our own FAs, when it comes to priority it has to be Hill>>>>>>>sessions right

its funny how Lakers get eliminated and ESPN and everybody goes crazy and talks about the offseason and what the Lakers are gonna do but the other team eliminated from the playoffs the Clippers get no coverage. i could imagine the same with the Heat while 76ers, Celtics, and Pacers would get no coverage

IMO, pau can stay and play the 5. what we need to do is get rid of bynum, possibly trade for a good PG and some SOLID wing players that are young and athletic off the bench. this includes a PF/C hybrid that can hit a midrange.

those changes + some training camp and a year to gel and i think we'll be alright.

The problem with Sessions has less to do with ability and more to do with fit.

Pau hasn't really diminished, he was just used the wrong way. Mike Brown basically used him as a high-post player and facilitator. He's still very good in the post - he just didn't get consistent looks down there. Even when Bynum was out, he played on the perimeter a lot next to McRoberts or Hill.

Pau has a good jumper for a big man - doesn't necessarily mean he has a good jumper overall. It wasn't reliable enough for Brown to bring him so far out. It made Pau look bad.

Maybe this season was evidence that the Pau & Bynum combo wasn't as great as made out to be.

Their size was evident a lot, but not on a consistent basis. They could volleyball the ball around, clean up messes, and feed each other - but they also got scored on a lot, outrebounded, and Pau's game was severely limited playing so far out of the post.

The Twin Towers thing brought a lot of good, but did it necessarily outweigh the bad?

Bynum is going through the learning stages.  He'll realize that defense matters more.  They should let KOBE/PAU run the pick and rolls, let them score.  Bynum is more important defensively and it shows.  His offensive production should be a 3rd option.  The 3rd option is actually more important, because it's a plan B that most teams won't expect.

A Dendre Jordan/ Tyson Chandler is what LA needs, but again, they need youth on the bench and on the court.  If they fail to do that, this team is LOTTO BOUND!!

IMO bynum and gasol can't work. it SEEMED to work the last few seasons but only because of odom's presence. his interior passing and quickness made up for the pairs shortcomings.

with odom gone, their lack of speed and athleticism is exposed. just take a look at some highlights of our b2b chip runs and it's plainly obvious. we miss odom in a big way.

^ Seemed like a joke at the time, especially right after Lamar got traded. But he would've been the best "Lamar replacement" out of everyone, even Jordan Hill.

Lakers will never be lotto bound if they keep Gasol/Kobe/Bynum. those 3 alone will at least be a mid to top tier playoff team

They will probably be stuck around 7th or 8th place within a year or two.

I think Kobe and Pau ALONE put them over the cap. With Bynum, those three are well over it.

They can amnesty someone, but that move won't get them anywhere close to the threshold on its own (unless it's Kobe or Gasol).

They're too good to not make the playoffs, but with age and no major help in sight, the current core will keep diminishing in success unless the coach finds an entirely new way to make everything fit.
