New York Yankees Official Thread - RIP Former Manager Petey Rose

I guess it would be a 2 time world series champion no matter how we decide to look at it.
Is that bc of him or bc of who he got drafted by? He's been a good player, don't get me wrong, but they didn't win those titles solely bc of him. I just don't believe in such a thing as a "winner" in team sports. I love Jeter, and he may have still been a HOF'er, but he's not viewed as a "winner" if he played for the Pirates for his entire career.

I don't think that's the message or what he was implying. Believe it was more of a he's been there and done that. He's a proven player.

I’m definitely not saying he won those series. I’m saying he’s been a damn good player and on a winning team for almost a decade. Isn’t it like seven or eight straight ALCS for them? I think being around that culture, for that long can play a role.

That's fair. Bringing pieces of a winning culture can help, I just get irked at the "winner" label as if some people are just inherently born with a winning gene and nothing will prevent them from winning.

Bama got left out of the playoffs, Yankees lost Soto, and my kid's sad that the Eras Tour ended. Yesterday wasn't a great day.

Think about every tv show, movie, whatever.

Everybody loves the Bad Guy who is cool.

Yankees can be the Evil Empire. But like it’s 2025, not it’s 1976.

What was cool 6 weeks ago isn’t even cool anymore.

It’s what the Dodgers are doing. You unabashedly make your self a players destination while also saying **** whatever you think about us, we’ll have the best players, have fun while we do it, and also continually go after every one.

Yankees think they can be the Evil Empire but a corporate setting.

Dodgers are Darth Vader. Yankees are a Health Care Company. Who is good at their craft, undeniably, but god they are no fun and make a lot of people think they are a bunch of pricks.

Have to let go of the stupid ****.

Can be the Yankee mystique, but it has to be look at Derek Jeter and how he had sex with every woman in NYC because he was the Captain. And not look, you can be a Hall of Famer but Mattingly shave those sideburns.

Wait, now we lost "the evil empire" nickname ?

Now the Dodgers are Darth Vader ?

ANYTHING ELSE ????

Yeah I’m not buying that but yanks gotta start acting like the yanks man.. feel like his point was dodgers acting more like us than we are. And that’s a shame. NYC>LA. Best city in world. Most storied franchise. Gotta start acting like big boys again… I’m over Soto, but this cycle of penny pinching and not really competing is a joke. Being best team is AL is not enough. You gotta be best team in the whole league. You attract talent when you give them the best chance of winning. Reason dodgers can get these guys to accept deferred wages… and why aren’t we doing that too? Cashman and Hal living in the past

Point is.

Dodgers are doing what the Yankees used to do, but doing it better.

Players care about feeling good where they are + money.

Yankees are antiquated in 2024. Dodgers are being Yankees 2.0. Realizing that not only does having money to spend matter, but making the players feel at home is equally relevant. The players are bigger than the franchise in LA, not the franchise is bigger than the players. Think of where you work... when you feel heard, validated, and respected you work harder, and many value that over small financial differences. Sure everyone can be bought for a certain amount, but that's not the position you want to be if you're on the other side, paying for services.

Every single legacy franchise in MLB, NFL and NBA are struggling with this to some extent. Like others have said, most don't give a flying **** about who wore the pinstripes 60-70 years ago.

Make the stadium and all facilities player and family friendly. Play with swagger. Play with flare. And stop with stupid *** traditions like beards and hair. It's time to recognize that the Yankees are the Yankees, but it has always been the players who made the pinstripes cool.

More Jazz, less Brian McCann

If Soto really left because of having to pay for a private suite for his family then whatever. Jeter, Mariano had to pay, is he bigger than them ?

I'm just about over all this but now to deal with Mut fans all winter. I literally had to turn off my phone because my texts were going bananas, all my Mut fan friends. Seems like the real victory for their fans is just the stealing him away. Stealing that front pg is worth everything to them. They're not realizing they have Frankie Montas and Clay Holmes in their rotation  not to mention Kodai Senga, whatever his name is, and him gettin hurt all the time.

Swear to god i have zero interest in next yr |l

Y’all are doing way too much in here. Yankees made a huge offer that was a crazy overpay. Mets offer is like 40-50 mil more with incentives. SOTO CANT ****IN PLAY DEFENSE.

Ohtani and his boy didn’t want to come here, they wanted LA, which we knew.

I don't agree with the yankees missing out cuz the franchise is more important... I think you have to have a balance between player power and the organization. Look how happy that locker room was all season... we talked about it in here multiple times. I don't think there is a cultural issue at fault here, even if we want to still tote that stupid beard/hair rule.. players are going to LA for the location (closer to home) and the MONEY.. sure they are agreeing to defer it, but they are getting PAID.

We know we have the money... enough excuses go be the EVIL empire.

I’d say another starter is necessary, a couple relievers and a couple bats.

Then you have a ton of room for trades.

8 years is a panic move. AVV is fine for 4-5 but 8?

Because he's a top 15 starting pitcher in the league, and top 15 starting pitchers don't sign for 4 years unless they are 36 or older.

Since 2021...
Cole is 2nd in WPA. Fried is 4th

And if they decided to go after Burnes too (they should).... They'd have 2,3 & 4

Fangraphs ERA- stat... Max is 3rd behind Woodruff and Ohtani since 2021.

FIP- he's tied with Cole

The 165-170 innings concerns me. If he gave you 200 at those numbers, ok.
