Like 99.9% of his movies suck. These studios gamble paying him a ton of money and hoping the movie is one of the movies people actually watch. With studios now targeting Chinese audiences like that mega shark movie that statham was in, he’ll be getting a lot of similar roles.

plus his big box office is in China and outside the US
Skyscraper made $293m and $225m of that is outside the US, Rampage made $425m and $325m of that came internationally, San Andreas made $473m and Hercules $244m
hell even Baywatch made $177m with only $58m from domestic money on a $70m budget
dude is bankable, they just don't look great because some of the movies are ridiculous or has Kevin Hart and isn't making big bucks like CBMs, Central Intelligence made $215m on a $50m budget
studios also loves dude because he markets the hell out of his films while some A-list stars are too good to visit every country possible to promote their movies
