NFL Discussion Thread: Pats win SB XLIX. Offseason begins

Both Phil and Kobe has great situations, the same thing you *** on Russell Wilson for.

The Seahawks had great defense before Russell Wilson got there but they took it to another level when they were supported by great quarterback

I never counted Reggie Roby

Marino had as much help as many of his contemporaries

The original point is Marino didn't the win or even get close enough multiple times to be considered the GOAT

He didn't perform great as indidvual in the postseason either..,.his quarterback rating dropped significantly

The point of the Sports is to win and the GOAT must win

I can't think of any high profile position GOAT candidate in Sports that hasn't won a championship? Maybe Barry Bonds

i dont think CP is saying marino is GOAT. he is just stating some of the factors that caused him to underachieve. chester thinks marino is GOAT but ches, friendly and me had that discussion a few pages back. marino great qb. GOAT? nah.

elway :Nthat

I really don't remember them.

But I'm positive he drove down the field to put then in position to kick those GW FGs.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong ?

one time they started near the 20. second time they started at the 40 yard line

True but Vinatieri had to come through as well...if not we know what happens

So he put them in position to win the game?

Last time Manning had a chance to win a Super Bowl he threw a pick in typical play-awful manning style.

It was actually to tie the game. Not win. But thank you for reminding me. You evil dude lol

you're making it seem like he threw and caught the ball while blocking the defense

@VA757VA

I wanna make sure you see this.

Did you watch the Patriots vs. Packers game this season?
@iLLoQuent aka DSK

Of course I watched that game..one of the more entertaining of this season IMO..what are you getting at

Good. I'm glad we got that out of the way.

...so where was your outrage when this was said on the broadcast?
Nantz: We talked to Rodgers about ‘How do you like your footballs?’ Because, you know, you can rub them up before the game. [Phil], you really kind of created that for everybody else in the league.

Simms: I don’t know if I did, because the quarterbacks got tired of them complaining. But he said something [that] was unique: ‘I like to push the limit to how much air we can put in the football, even go over what they allow you to do and see if the officials take air out of it.’ Because he thinks it’s easier for him to grip. He likes them tight. Of course, he’s got very big hands and you can tell that by watching him play.

Nantz: You’ve never heard of a guy really desiring a football to be fat and overinflated before, have you?

Simms: Everybody wants it smaller and soft, so they can dig their fingers into it. He’s such a feel thrower. You can tell. The one touchdown he threw down the field to the tight end is such feel; then he flicks it. That shows you he just has great control of it, with his fingers and hand.

Nantz: He said, ‘God gave me big hands and a strong grip.’

Simms: You know, the officials do check those footballs and sometimes maybe even get lucky and put an extra half pound of air in there to help Aaron Rodgers out.
???

You said
That's cheating. A little cheating is still cheating.
So I'm SURE when you heard those words while watching that game...you MUST have said something at the time, right?

Go ahead and pull up an old tweet, NT post, facebook, whatever. The media told US a QB told THEM he likes his footballs doctored a certain way and likes it outside of the NFL's standard specifications. Aaron Rodgers waits for the officials to take air out of the ball.

...where was the outcry then?

I'm guessing you probably missed it or don't remember. Most of the country did too. Wanna know why? Because it's not a big deal.

Wanna know why Phil Simms said it on a national broadcast and had a mini-convo with his partner about it? Because it isn't a big deal.

Wanna know why Rodgers felt comfortable telling Simms in a pre-production meeting? Because it's not a big deal.

I mean, ****...we're at the point in this "crisis" where science & physics segments getting technical about deflated balls concluded that it doesn't provide an advantage. It might even hurt them. Yet it gets ignored and thrown out the window since we're dealing with the NFL's version of the boogeyman.

It's not deflecting, not playing the victim, not saying "everyone does it", it ain't any of that bull ****. The allegations for Spygate was some slimy ****. This is not Spygate. Difference is y'all want it to be though.

To answer your question though,
I ask u this, if it's not a big deal, then why are the patriots even doing it??
Because it's something silly that certain OCD players do for their own comfort. For the most part, it goes unsaid and never gets any attention.

Rodgers likes them inflated above specs. Brady (apparently) likes them deflated under specs. Eli Manning has a MONTHS long process where his footballs are doctored. Brad Johnson just spoke up about his process. Matt Leinart basically said he did it and it's not out of the ordinary. Phil Simms was an OG of breaking them in his own way. The stories keep coming.

Some QB's do it, some don't. Some players can't tell the difference between different "doctored" footballs and others say they can. The guy who caught the INT from Brady said he didn't.

If you ask me...Brady lied in his PC. I *think* Belichick was telling the truth. At the end of the day though...does it even matter? Take a step back and look at the current climate of this situation. No matter what happened, they were going into a no-win situation having to address the lynch mob of moral high horses & others with transparent agendas. NOTHING they could've said at the PC was gonna quiet down this ridiculous ****. They just went with the option that put it back in the NFL's court. I have a working #spicyhottakes theory on how it all started after the Ravens game, but I'll save that for another time.

I'm SO glad you brought up Peyton Manning before I did.

Because for you...that's what this is REALLY is all about anyway. A unique way to cape for Peyton Manning. You said it before I had to and even brought up #18 out of nowhere while I was gone. You've always just been another one of those hardcore Peyton stans that feels a certain way about things and it oozes out of your opinions. Keep it 100 for the people, man.
