Isn't it true that many homosexuals currently occupy the highest strata of modern society, moreso than other "oppressed groups"?

Further evidence of the rampant nearsightedness all too prevalent when this topic is brought up.

We have very little compassion or unity as a society for truly oppressed factions and really desperate causes but we will frantically gobble up whatever fast food is placed on our plate by the media. This topic is a perfect example of that.

Threads about racial profiling, child labor, environmental destruction, incarceration disparity, neo-colonialism, draconian immigration policies etc. don't stand a chance with out peer group but mutter anything about "homosexual equality" and the uproar will be deafening.

You'll swear that "gay people" are being shackled en masse and forced to live a life of servitude, rather then living in posh enclaves like Beverly Hills and SoHo; often looking down on the same people championing "homosexual equality".

so what's the takeaway from this?

i need to wait my turn because the severity of the gay struggle isn't nearly as bad as the african-american struggle?

or until i endure beatings and enslavement, i don't deserve equality?

and until we stop pushing our racial issues under the rug for the hottest issue of the day, we will never make any progress and will keep on roundabouting back to it.

The race issue been with us with the inception of this nation. We keep kicking the issue down the road putting the burden of solving race relations on the next generation or too far out in the future.

We need to stop being side tracked.

Once we better deal with people respectfully, i think we will be better equipped to deal with people on a sexual level.

Until then, the shock value of the message is gonna always take precedence over lgbt issues.

We have to learn how to get along first before we start dealing with sex.

These things can happen simultaneously.

Media gives us this limited perception of only being to handle only so many events at a time.

We can tackle multiple injustices.



People have layers. When you start out with them on a sexual level, you step over multiple boundaries and straight into their personal space.

the fact that it is being used as a polarization method is inarguable. but looking past that, the fact that it's effecting people's lives should be the more important issue.

it's like people talk about this "gay agenda" thing and use it as a means to say it's okay if they're getting oppressed, we're stopping them from reaching their global takeover goals of 2014.

some of the Russians in power are using children as their means of pushing homophobia. kinda like how David Cameron banned porn and blocked a bunch of websites (non-pornographic) to "save the children". it is an empty gesture and it is an abuse of powers to promote certain ideals. this is supposed to be to protect children yet it's to the point over there that gay people have to have their own taxi service because they fear for their lives in public at night.

I just want to interject on this particular case, russia banning gay propaganda isn't what lead to an increase in homophobia or anti gay violence. Those types of things have been going on for a while now, the people/culture is not open to gays like American culture is. Don't look for the Russian gov to go against the population like that. If anything I could imagine it getting WORSE if the government switched it up, they got some groups of people out there that make our conservatives look like left wingers.

The Russian people didn't just wake up in 2013 and decide they wee against homophobia.  It's been endemic to the country and bred and cultured until it got to this point.

Putin isn't just going by what the peope want.  Russian 8 year old's don't get born hating gays.  It's been taught and encouraged for decades.  These laws aren't going to help that.

You could say the same about certain ethnic minorities that Russian polls show are "unfavorable."  These biases didn't come out of nowhere.

It's the civil rights trial that led to the desegregation of buses.

One of the plaintiffs was an African American who was so fair skinned that they appeared Caucasian to the naked eye and could ride in the White section of buses without being troubled.

My point being, there are Black people who can hide that they are Black and blend in to White society.  Does that make their struggle any less legitimate?

Or do you have to be dark skinned for your fight to be real?  What if you're dark skinned and rich and have never personally suffered any social injustice?
