NIKE Air Jordan IV OG White Fire Red: Black Friday 2020: Nov. 28th

I believe they use this yellowing rubber on purpose because it keeps you feeling like you need a new fresh pair when they decide to retro them again. It would be bad for their business model to release a shoe and it stays pristine for 10-20 years
It wouldn't surprise me. Especially on those chromes, which are basically a summer-only shoe. So it's like the shoe version of planned obsolescence or quickly disposable product: Hey, let's release these summer IVs this year. Make them stay looking OK for a few months. Then when the summer is over people put them away, and then they pull them out again next summer only to find they have yellowed and look terrible. So then they buy THAT summer's release. Rinse and repeat.

The problem with this theory is, it happens on all the IVs with white mesh, not just summer releases. Honestly it just seems to have to do with the composition of the mesh. Is it because Nike is cheap and doesn't care? Is it a conspiracy to get people to buy more shoes? Is it because the more environmentally friendly materials they have to use these days are for some reason susceptible to yellowing quickly? No idea, in truth. But whatever the cause, it sucks and it's ridiculous

Nike doesn’t have a problem to fix. We’re the ones with the yellow shoes. They’re sold out of them.

True dat. I will just always find it odd they don't seem concerned with the perception of the brand and its quality. Especially when you know it would probably cost about six cents to eliminate this stuff.

Pretty much everything white, grey or clear yellows, no matter the product. It’s amazes me that people think because they over pay for sneakers, they are exempt from nature.

That's not what I or anyone else said. We're talking about the fact these modern IVs see their white plastic mesh yellow within relatively no time. My 2016 WC IVs yellowed within 20 wears in perfectly dry Los Angeles and spending the rest of the time in my dark closet. Look at that pic of those chromes above, and I don't care how much that person wore those shoes, they're not even two years old. OGs never had that issue, and if they did, it only took about a decade or two to look as bad as these new retros do within, again, practically no time. It's not remotely the same.

I can’t speak for how fast shoes I bought and wore 25 years ago yellowed, but I can tell you my concord soles looked like hot margarine wearing them in the ice and snow in Michigan
But I do know 4 and 5 didn’t have all leather uppers, some panels were Durubuc , and that does yellow, so certain panels were yellow and others weren’t.

I lived in Redondo Beach, LA is far from dry. Humidity on average is mid 70%

Dude I’m not talking about soles. It is a fact the OG IV mesh didn’t yellow like this. Google images of OG pairs. Most still not even close to this yellow. My OG IV Fire Reds I wore every day for a year when I was a teenager, bashing my shoes, fell apart with white mesh still intact, I assure you. I dunno why we’re even debating this LOL

I see the 4s didn’t yellow looking at the pictures, but 5s did.

These shoes are a year and a half old?

They discolored in the box. Never worn, they've always been climate-controlled and the humidity never went past 60-65%.

I saw that starting on my pair like 6-7 months ago so I dumped them along with the white/red pair.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the next pair of white cement 3s have yellow back tabs out the box upon release.

They really have no shame when it comes to these things. I was watching one of those SNKRS reels a couple weeks ago where they highlighted a pair of glittery sbb 1s.

I wonder if those 4 have a painted mesh. That would explain it.
What explains it is that the shoes were made different/better back then, and this yellowing issue was nowhere near the same as it is now. See below posts.
I don't know why you want to keep trying to convince yourself of anything else. I'm sorry, man, but the OGs simply did not yellow like this.
There are tons of OG 4's and 5s with good-lookin netting still, even on pairs that were worn.

I've seen netting on modern 4s and 5s yellow within 6 months.

I have a pair of hyper-royal 14s that have already discolored.

I don’t think it has anything to do with them being OGs or retro, my 5s from 2015 or whatever have no yellowing but my White Cement 4s do. I’ve only worn them both once. And to say no OGs yellows is a pretty bold statement considering you’ve probably only seen pictures which don’t show colors accurately. With that being said, you can clearly see the OG Fire Red 4 netting is yellow, not bad but by comparison to the Retro it obvious
