Looking to get a Wii U for my son. Mos def want the black one. Just now looking at some of the comments and it looks like a solid buy. Just kind of concerned about the topic of the security issues.

I would still go ahead and get the system for your son. The talk about hacking the system is so they can play free games on the Wii U via home brew. You shouldn't worry about viruses or people getting your account information. Those are on Nintendo servers and from what I know they are still secured.

But to add on the subject, I feel this hacking culture is ruining the fun of video games. If you like the game... support the developers who put their time and effort into making that game. If you don't have the money to afford the game, you should save up for it. If its THAT important you might as well pre order the game and pay it off in small increments or wait until it goes on sale.

Why are people so fascinating about people hacking a system so you can play games you don't deserve? I just don't get it... :{

7000 Wii U Consoles Stolen in Airport Robbery
Adventurous thieves nick $2m worth of new Wii U consoles from Seattle airport.

Adventurous thieves have stolen around 7000 Wii U consoles worth around $2m from SeaTac airport in Seattle, USA.

ABC News quotes Sgt. Cindy West, who says " I’ve been a cop for 28 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this. This has come straight out of the movies.” The thieves broke into an air cargo warehouse and made off with 7000 Premium and Basic Wii U bundles worth a total of $2.28million according to Eurogamer's calculation.

The robbers loaded the consoles onto trucks using the warehouse's forklifts sometime between 9pm on Saturday night and noon on Sunday and made off with them. They are expected to have ditched those trucks later on, but the Wii U consoles have yet to surface. Unless the robbers have extremely large families to cater to with Christmas gifts, police expect to see them for sale online.

“If we don’t get any tips ahead of time, it will be the selling of these consoles that will lead to their capture. It’s gonna be pretty hard to hide 7,000 Wii game consoles,” says Sgt West.

In my opinion I think it stems from some people feeling like they're not getting their money's worth. Some developers don't really put in the time to make quality titles and just slap something together to make a quick buck. On top of that, you have the emphasis placed on DLC. It can at times leave the end user feeling cheated. That's how I felt about Halo 4. I'm not advocating piracy however, just giving a different perspective.

so what does this do??

all ive gotten from this is that you look at this instead of looking at the HUGE tv in front of your face...

Has nothing to do with piracy bruh... Expect updates to come "on disk" in the near future so that puts a end to that. Its the homebrew and the open ability to do things Nintendo would normally lock you out from is the best possible outcome for real scene heads. Divx, Apps, Game Mods etc etc...

The PS vita was hacked a while back and even had the ability to use iso loaders yet the hackers LEFT IT OUT. Its not always about Piracy dude.

Getting a virus on a console is not even possible. Account information is never safe, social engineering is a problem for all three console manufacturers. The PS3 hacking debacle wasn't people having accounts stolen, but ability for hackers to have developer free access to the PSN store(everything zero dollars). Most people care about console hacks because this could determine the longevity of that console. The easier it is to hack the more timid developers will be too create games on that console, also people in other countries are fascinated by hacks because the software and hardware are 4 times more expensive compared to ours.

My little brother loves his. I'm feeling it too, cant wait for better games.

In some recent Nintendo news

Nintendo was granted a patent for its Panorama View feature for the Wii U today, a feature that allows Wii U owners to use the GamePad to show a different perspective to what is shown on the television screen.

The Wii U's Panorama View was first shown when the console was announced at E3 in 2011 and the console's demos at the time allowed players to use the GamePad as a window into another part of the game world. It was officially announced at E3 this year. The Panorama View will be available as a paid downloadable app from the Wii U eShop next spring.

Nintendo's patent document goes into great detail about the gyrosensors used to determine the controller's change in position and explains how users can use the GamePad as a "porthole" into the game world.

The feature is somewhat in Nintendoland when you play as an archer in the Zelda minigame which is pretty sick.

I am hooked on ZombiU! The gameplay and Wii Pad usage for ZombiU is amazing! Best Zombi game I have played since Left 4 Dead. The panoramic feature is not useless at all. Ive used it on Nintendoland and ZombiU as well, its a nice new feature.

Can someone cliff notes me on what to get and do for my son's and my WiiU please.

Still sad that it can't be taken from the home to use. I thought it was like a PSP. Great system tho. He won't let it go now. 8)

what exactly are you asking...?

exactly makes it more realistic esp...in a first person game. It makes more sense that you would need to look up.down, left and right and even turn around to see whats around you. The notion of you just hit a button or flick and you see behind you is unrealistic to say the least.

Well other than netflix and WiiTVii anything else I need to download or set up to get the most out of it?

Also is it safe to say that the WiiU can't leave the house and operate at the same time? 8)

After you DL the long *** intro patch you should be ready to go, if you do have any Ubisoft games I recommend downloading the Uplay app in the Eshop. The app is Ubisoft's answer to achievements/trophies.

As far as taking the Wii U anywhere, while you can't take the gamepad anywhere you want, you can however plug the console into any outlet and play the system on the gamepad entirely. I posted this vid a while back about the possibilities of the mobility of the system.

Buy a portable batteried ac outlet, put it in a bookbag, connect the Wii U and boom you can play it anywhere.

Thank you for that info as it was needed. I guess I'm just sad that it isn't fully portable like a PSP but then again thankful so my son doesn't take it every where. 8)

Data suggests Wii U has sold 2 million units since launch
Nearly 2.21 million Wii U units shipped this holiday season.

While Nintendo has not released any official data on the sales of the Wii U console, VGChartz has compiled data that suggests Nintendo’s latest console has performed fairly well this holiday season with 2 million units sold since launch. According to Nintendo’s own projections, the company wants to sell 5.5 million units by April 2013 and if the 2 million figure turns out to be true, they’re well on their way to accomplishing this goal.

According to these stats, the Wii U has performed 80% as well as the original Wii launch did, but several factors come into play when considering lower stats, including a higher price tag, tepid economy, and several launch title delays. These delays will do well in promoting the console for the early half of 2013, as big titles like Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, and The Wonderful 101 are still slated to be released within the launch window which could spur even more sales.

:hat :hat

I know people will say it's all because of holiday sales though.
With 3 solid titles coming soon (Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, Wonderful 101) I know the sales will continue to roll in.

The Pokemon company has some big announcement coming on the 8th that people think is a Wii U title so if that's true then they'll be rolling in dough, unless it's some horrible spinoff.
