Just got back from Coachella. Had the best of the best this weekend, Heineken and Bud Light 
. They had a craft beer area but due to the sheer madness and not wanting to lose my group, I didn't get a chance to check it out. To those that went, what did they have?

Ahhh back to the basics. Kind of like neosole89. Working in the yard today, nothing is better than a semi tasteless thirst quenching beer. Dos Equis lager does it for me. Since getting into the heavier beers, it takes quite a few to have any effect. Session beer for days. Sometimes I need that.
I was up in Santa Fe yesterday visiting a couple breweries. I posted some stuff on untappd. Nothing completely ground breaking but I had a great time with family. Modest to light crowds at all three places. People just sitting enjoying the company of others.
Growler sale at Santa Fe brewing. I picked up their flagship Ipa. I gotta say it's more malty and has a floral hop kick all around. It's not terrible. Above average for sure. Definitely a beer I can drink without hesitation.
Yesterday the vibe was really laid back. I forgot about competition and the thrill of only drinking "amazing" beers.
When did beer get away from just hanging out with friends and family and enjoying their company? I didn't talk about floral notes or citrus hops or Belgian yeast once yesterday.

I look like a freak holding up single bottles out of a six pack up to a light to check dates (lagunitas comes to mind). Other times, you are lucky and see that date on the side. But sometimes you dont snap until you are home. With the dates all over the place depending on the brewery, it can take quite awhile to spot the date... My condolencies... That's their IPA too?
With a modest 4 month "brewed" date going back from the best before, you are looking at a beer brewed in July 2013.

I would advise you email and Fb/twitter them.. I can see 2-3 or 4 months OLD beers, but 6?

Yeah it's there imperial black ipa.
It's my first time trying this beer, but it didn't taste right. You could tell it was a black ipa because they have a pretty distinct taste, but just extra bitter/stale/old. Sucks because if it was fresh, I bet it would taste pretty good.

yeah that Dubhe doesnt taste all that great fresh. I can only imagine how bad that 6 month bottle was. i remember when i had it it was really unbalanced. first you get this really smokey/roasted aggressive taste and ends too hoppy that doesnt help mellow it out. for sure not my cup of tea

That reminds me of a local brewery who does a black IPA who has a release schedule for it slated November through January. Yet it will be sitting by the end of May, almost 4 months and two seasonals later. That makes what you had in the Oct. '13 that much sadder and crazier..
Then they get their Irish Red out in May, when the true May seasonal should be out. I've learned to not mess with places like that. They can't get away with their Octoberfest being sold in December, so that does seem to be the only beer they either throw away or stop selling way early. I'd blame the beer store more than the brewery... My beer store is sloppy and tends to be more geared toward the large macro beer crowd. That's 90% of their business. Who am I?
Black IPAs are just a true kick to your tongue and palette. Chocolate and roastedness with some hops? It doesn't make sense. Maybe an older bottle tastes more like a deep brown ale/stout without the hop bite?
It's only been about 8 days since my last elevated IPA (sounds like a short time, right? lol). After sharing a growler of Santa Fe IPA, and having 2-3 other IPAs yesterday, plus a Sculpin tonight, it's crazy how quickly my mind is made up. GREAT beer is GREAT beer. I'm flip flopping my opinion on beer drinking, and drinking whatever. When that sweet alcohol nectar of a great beer hits you, take it in and drink gallons of it. At some point you hope something comes close and aren't too disappointed when it doesn't. But when its done right, in a frickin can, you kind of expect more out of the other guys.
btw JBug88, im having a 3/22/14.. Just as good and potent as others from these guys.. I don't see any reason why you would spit the stuff out.. It's my source of nutrition on most nights lol

Turned 21 a few months ago, just looking for some different summer time beers. Havent had to much experience in regards to different styles and tastes. Usually stick to shock top blue moon, and Ive tried a few different types of 3 floyds for sure Zombie Dust and really liked it, not sure of the other. Just want something different and goes down easy for these summer nights.

Try and pickup one of those variety 12 packs (Sam Adams has a decent one). Those typically have several different styles of beers. See what you like and go from there.

I have a crap load of Torpedo's left over at the house from a party I threw this past Saturday for the Pacquiao fight and I forgot how good this beer is.
I've drank at least two bottles of it every day this week so far! With maybe a 12 pack left, and I'm not even tired of it.
Actually its an almost perfect IPA in my opinion.

Torpedo is definitely slept on. Availability definitely plays into its lack of praise. Same goes for Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. On a similar note, if Heady Topper was widely accessible there would be pretty much a 0% chance of it being #1 on BeerAdvocate. Always take those rankings with a grain of salt.

Stupid question, but are all sours essentially "the same" ie EXTREMELY SOUR? I sampled a Belgian Sour that was aged in whiskey and bourbon barrels, and man, I just couldn't get down with it. Even at 11%, there was no sweetness cutting into that sourness. I realize they call them sours for a reason. But these saisons, farmhouse ales, and sours are just beers I cant grasp my head around. Yet every time I go to a local brew pub, a new face will ask if they have any sours or wild ales. I probably need to find a way above average sour to compare. But I'm guessing those are sour too.
