NT, What Beer Do You Drink?

Not sure because I bought it in Spring and now it's back recently

Copped some FBS and DFH Punkin for tonight

Guess I'll have to try the GF bottled Alpine beers myself :D. Only had it on tap previously. Tonight's haul:

700

Did California get last year's batch of FBS? I thought we should start seeing the new label without the baby with the next batch.

My goal this fall is to get into stouts.

What are the "premier" joints?

I know Founders Breakfast Stout is up there. Any others yall could recommend? I'm typically an IPA guy but they're not as enjoyable in the cold weather imo

As far as easily accessible ones go:

AleSmith Speedway Stout

Founders Imperial Stout

Stone Russian Imperial Stout

Bell's Expedition Stout

Oskar Blues Ten Fidy

Dieu Du Ciel Peche Mortel

Oops...didn't see you asked for the "premier" ones also.  Here's a list of some stuff you MIGHT be able to find:

VooDoo Big Black VooDoo Daddy (you should check out the brewery since you live in PA)

Cigar City Marshall Zhukov

Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout (and all of the variants)

Deschutes The Abyss

Firestone Walker Parabola

Prairie BOMB!

Prairie Apple Brandy Barrel Noir

Bell's Black Note

Epic Big Bad Baptist

Speaking of ten fidy, I'm gonna make some "guinness" stout stew without the crappy guinness. One or two cans of ten fidy should do it. :x :D A nice slow simmer in a dutch oven for 8 hours should be PERFECT. I''ll round up some photos

af 1982, have you had stouts before? Would you need some baby steps? I would recommend some oatmeal stouts, and milk stout varieties.

Anderson Valley Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout
Ipswitch Oatmeal Stout
Left Hand Milk Stout

Regular easily accessible stouts:
Deschutes Obsidian Stout
Sierra Nevada Stout

As far as premier, it feels like there is a release of some $20 Imperial Stout bomber every two weeks. But I would take baby steps first.

The only Stout I've really had was Guinness :lol

I'm gonna take a look at all these suggestions. Mainly looking for baby steps. Something easily accessible and good for "beginners"

Crappy may be a bit harsh. It's a 4.2% "dry stout". so that's basically at the very beginners level on a ABV and taste front. Not a bad start. You have two months before Goose Island Bourbon County releases their arsenal of imperial stouts flavored each and every way. I would definitely start with oatmeal, milk, and into the american 6-7% stouts.

Guinness does make an extra stout, that is 5%, as well as a foreign extra stout, at 7.5%. So if you want to start with guinness, you can definitely ramp it up.

Oscar Blues TenFidy is CRACK :hat

came in here to say this

I have become such a huge stout guy, AF I know you are local so check these which are easy to find and start with

Southern Tier 2X's
Souther Tier Warlock
Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout
Troegs Javahead
Rogue Chocolate Stout
Rogue Mocha Porter
Bells Java Stout

these are just off the top of my head

Wish I was in PA man, I'm in NC for a year for work

On a Troegs withdrawal :(

Went with FBS :hat

Gonna have it after dinner as I don't think it will pair well with BBQ Chicken :lol

Went out to a beer bar/restaurant for dinner tonight.  Had two glasses of Hill Farmstead Susan.  Exceptional beer.  Easily superior to Heady Topper.

The keg of Hill Farmstead Double Citra kicked before I got there though...

Where did you get the FBS? Agreed with the earlier statement being an IPA guy and really wanting to get in to the stout scene now that it's beginning to cool down. I had a ballast point victory at sea. Is that a stout? I love a good cup of black coffee so that stuff tasted like crack to me. Took down the list of recommended stouts and definitely looking forward to learning more. Thanks a lot guys.

^ Got it at Willow's Market in Menlo Park. Heard only SF and San Mateo county getting Founders right now. Santa Clara county won't be getting any until early next year.

Victory at Sea is a porter (very good one btw). I think you'll enjoy FBS.

I'm a HEAVY coffee drinker. 3-4 cups at least on a normal day. If I'm working late at the office then 5-6.

All I have is black coffee so it's looking like the transition to stouts will be a little easier.

Victory at Sea is a solid porter. I usually don't like vanilla in beer but the subtlety and addition of coffee is a perfect blend.

All of this coffee talk and I don't think anyone's mentioned Prairie's Coffee Noir. Without a doubt my current favorite coffee stout. I just wish it was easier to get my hands on.

A close second is Lakewood's French Quarter Temptress but I don't think there's too many TX guys in here that would be familiar with it.
