, its a shame that not many people will see Page 5 of this thread, or even realize everything they hear on these sports channels & read in articles isput there to create perceptions & storylines,

Pac10Owns or whatever your s/n is - I'm thinkin you're the Ironman guy I quoted earlier, look,

Theres ALWAYS a chance to wake up and realize that you may actually have the wrong outlook/opinion on sports. Its tough to admit that to yourself, hell, 1 anda half years ago I can honestly say I knew NOTHING about any sport - and I use to think I was the man with my sports knowledge ...It took a lot of opinions andoverall getting closer to certain sports through contacts to understand I was wrong about 90% of the things I percived in the sporting world. That "Howare NBA games rigged?" should be a clear sign to you, and we're on a site where people actually KNOW more than the typical generic fan about sports -thats sad.

I dunno if anything here WILL change your mind, but I took the time to write it just in case you would....I wrote it spotty, but I'm sure you get the ideaof what I'm saying, you'll have to do the work yourself to learn whats up with most things in sports though...

And thanks for that article Weaponry I hadn't seen that,

Itll be interesting to see if hes starting Week 1 with everything I'm readin now...maybe he needs some coachin first, but I dunno, seems like he'salmost a coach inside his mind,

And that whole part about Ignition Athletics Performance Group in Mason, Ohio is interestin ..I'm bookmarkin that

Oh and
laugh.gif
if Pac10Owns is bigmike23 - I know he's about to quote my post questionin his sports opinion n be PISSED

No prob on the article.
Trust, if the Raiders didnt take him, aanother club was gonna call his name real quick

laugh.gif
yeah thats bigmike
Q: But he had 13 tds in three years, Crabtree had 41 . . .

Cable: Different systems. If you put the spread system at this level, it doesn't really exist. Those numbers would be dramatically different. I think the one great comparison that I did that really showed this was the right guy for me, if I put him in that same system, he might have been over 50 touchdowns. He's that talented.

Totally agree with cable

Based on the highlight video...which is what Al Davis and Tom Cable probably seen prior to the draft

are u being serious?
Bruh, theyve seen EVERY GAME Mitchell has ever played in his collegiate career.
talkin Coaches tape, 22 on the field.

I will be real about this if any other team picked Mitchelle there wouldnt be a big #*% fuss it would of been another pick and ESPN/NFL Network would ofkeep it moving. but when u reach for a WR in the 1st and over the last few years have had HORRIBLE drafts *$%! like that is going be in question

Q and A with Cable after the pick

What Raiders coach Tom Cable said after the Raiders' selection of Darrius Heyward-Bey with the No. 7 pick in the first round of the draft:

Opening statement: Well, this is a very exciting time obviously, announcing the pick for Darrius Heyward-Bey, a wide receiver from Maryland. This is the guy we wanted all along. It really, as I said probably about a month ago, there's one guy in the draft who makes our entire team better. He makes Zach Miller better, he makes JaMarcus better, he makes Darren McFadden better, and Justin Fargas, Michael Bush, Johnnie Lee Higgins, Chaz Schilens, on and on and on, we now have a guy that we can throw the ball over the top of anybody and he can go get it. So this is a very exciting team. He helps us obviously what we do running the football but he gives us that deep threat that traditionally has been the Oakland Raiders. Really, just an awesome awesome time for us and excited to have Darrius, look forward to getting him here to minicamp and letting him show some of that speed.

Q: Why him over Crabtree and Maclin?

Cable:: This is a guy that i had targeted a month ago in the thing. He's the one guy who's made everyone better around him. We needed, as has been mentioned and written by all of you, we needed the ability to throw the ball over people's head and JaMarcus has obviously shown he can outthrow most everything. This is a guy now who can go run that down and catch it. As I mentioned, he's going to make Zach Miller better, and Johnnie Lee and Chaz Schilens and Darren MvcFadden and Bush and ultimately he's going to help JaMarcus be the kind of quarterback we're trying to get him to be.

Q: His college numbers don't suggest that?

Cable: Well, different system and obviously when you look at what he did in yards per catch, his explosiveness, amazing. When you real y break him down and look at him for what it was, his opportunities and attempts, he's off the chart, far far greater than the others.

Q: Thought of trading down and still getting him?

Cable: No, that was never the plan. We knew what we wanted to do the whole time. This was the choice that we thought we had to have to move this team to the next step.

Q: Any thought of taking Eugene Monroe?

Cable: Not at all. There's a reason we have Mario Henderson here and Khalif Barnes, Erik Pears, Cornell Green. That may be something we do later in the draft, we'll see how the day unfolds and obviously tomorrow, but the biggest need on this football team is to get someone to score points and obviously when you look at wh at I just said, his ability to do that and make everyone better around him, we've got to score points to win football games.

Q: Offers to trade out of the pick?

Cable: We never ever really talked about wanting to move. We were pretty strong about what we needed to do. Like I said, we targeted this one about a month ago and getting this team where it needs to be, and obviously that's the ability to score more points. This was the no-question pick.

Q: Comparison with another player?

Cable: We talk to the scouts and everything. They bring up the name Randy Moss and obviously when you look at the history of the great receivers who have been Oakland Raiders, it's always been about that vertical speed, being able to stretch th field, take that top off the defense and this certainly does that for us.

Q: Did he visit here?

Cable: We've worked him out, we visited with him, we've done great great diligence on this one. This is the one we wanted in terms of character and talent. And then the numbers and everything kind of speak for themselves.

Q: Was there a time when you thought you might have to trade up to get him?

Cable: There was. There was some time the last two days; in particular, last night it got a little bit nervous because there was some teams that tried to move ahead to get him. So, you really start worrying about all that.

Q: Do you consider him a polished receiver?

Cable: Actually, he was in all the top receivers - there's really four of them that everybody has talked about; three at the top - he is the best route-runner of that group. Again, he's the only guy that came out of a true pro-style system. Everyone else was in a spread s ystem. So, his learning curve is much, much shorter than those other guys. Then you got that size, that speed and his ability to go get it. The thing that jumps out at you, this is the one guy at the combine who, at the 30-yard mark, actually changed gears. And there was a whole other warp speed, if you will.

Q: What have you learned about his character?

Cable: He's got the character that we're looking for to build this team around. He has honor in everything he does. He has a tremendous family, does the right things. He was a guy that, early in his career, was considered a track guy and really set out as a goal to prove that 'I'm a football guy' and has done that. He's a hard-working guy, did everything that we asked him to do. When you looked and dug, did all the things that we do, never once did you find anything that would detract you from him in terms of his character and his personality.

Q: How is he catching the ball?

Cable: There was some talk about that early, that they were inconsistent. But as we did a breakdown over the last two years, much greater consistency that way. He did a great job at his workout. His workout was phenomenal, just phenomenal. He caught everything at the front end of it, did a great job of being able to react and adjust his body to some tough catches and really kind of sold you on it. Because you started to see some of those things that scouts mentioned earlier, that he could do those awkward things.

Q: Who did you have at the workout and was it at Maryland?

Cable: A scout, had it filmed and taped and did everything that we would normally do.

Q: Was it just the Raiders at the workout?

Cable: No, there was many people at the workout.
Im sorry but you trying to justify that pick LMFAO
roll.gif

At least trade down for him, NO ONE had him go that high in their mock draft besides the gayders

I'm not against Mike Mitchell...I love how he brought that physical presence to a secondary, but I personally wanted Chip Vaughn.

I felt Vaughn was the better tackler and that's the key thing we've missed in safeties in the pass, is the consistent ability to tackle.

Also, I thought we could have selected Mitchell in the 4th round for sure. But according to those articles, it seems like the Raiders

did the right thing to get their man.

This could turn out to be a solid draft if we're able to used our 2nd day picks to grab a DE, LT, and LB...some guys like

Michael Johnson and Jasper Brinkley. I dunno if they're still available, but I would be fine with selecting those players.

one thing i dont get is why people come in to !%!$ on our threads so much.

i mean, i like to mess with the chargers fans on here but only cause they are a division rival and even im not in their draft thread spewing hate. some of youguys sound really bitter about the raiders.

The Raiders are hated for a reason. We do things unconventionally....lately, that hasn't produced wins, but tons of people bashing Oakland.

Like somebody said above, if another team picked Mitchell, no problem.

i get it but some dudes seem genuinely pissed at the existence of the raiders and the fanbase in general.

anyway im not mad about the DHB pick, just upset that they didnt try to trade back. even if they didnt get much in return, its better than nothing. i dont knowif him or crabtree will be better so i cant argue it. i just hope he produces and will be a fan of the guy regardless

exactly. Cable actually knows what he's talking about. Crabtree, Harvin, Maclin, all those guys are used to touching the ball 10-15 times a game and beingallowed to do whatever they want. DHB has a better understanding of what a WRs job is in the NFL. i would also like to point out that DHB is a great characterguy. when he first came to Maryland, he went out for football and the coaches told him "stick to track." he didn't quit, and kept working at hisgame until he refined himself into a true football player. and he was severely underutilized at Maryland... there were some ENTIRE GAMES where Chris Turnerwould not even look his direction but once or twice. he was essentially being used as a decoy during his time there... but through all that, you never onceheard about him complaining or being a bad teammate. i've talked to DHB personally before, and he is one of the nicest athletes i have ever met.

....

compare that to some of the other top receivers this year.. Michael Crabtree has an ego problem. the other day, i was reading quotes about UT recruiting him asa CB, and him saying "I'm not a cornerback, I score touchdowns" or something like that... this dude was a HS senior thinking he's Cris Carteror some !@@%
eyes.gif
. Percy Harvin failed a drug test (which is automatic entryinto the NFL drug program), so he will already be entering the NFL with baggage.. a guy that can't stay off the green before the combine has some issues.Maclin, i can't say much about but i've heard he's a great guy as well. it is also important to note that all of those guys have sustained seriousinjuries. Crabtree's recent foot issue has been well documented. Percy Harvin missed games in every one of his collegiate seasons. Jeremy Maclin missed anentire SEASON due to a knee injury. he also got hurt doing his position drills at the combine. conversely, Heyward-Bey never missed a game during his entirecareer at Maryland.

Raiders fans, you made the right choice on DHB. the only blunder was drafting him so early instead of trading the spot for extra picks, but i'm sureyou're used to that kind of thing by now.

You and Tom Cable are both biased.....but I agree with what you said he is a great fit for the Raiders in fact if the Raiders didnt take him I would havescratched my head he is a typical Raiders player. I just dont get why they took him at 7

. I mean lets face it. You can even look at Cable's biased answer and see thereal reason he was taken because of his speed.

Im a Niner fan but I follow the silver and black, and I like what yall are doin.

Based on the information we had about mitchell at the time of the pick... it seemed bad... now after everything that's coming out it seems much morereasonable.

But the DHB pick was still a bad pick, not because of who it was... but because we picked him at #7. We definitely could have traded down to the late teens& still been able to pick him up there...

That's my only problem with the pick... but the raiders are definitely looking up... i just don't see DHB as a true #1 receiver... a very good #2...but not a true #1.
